The worst part of it all is that we're apparently the vocal minority. You hear a lot about how unoriginal Hollywood is, and how it's all just boring remakes. But they're making money hand over fist from all the other people that don't know any better. They'll only stop when people stop going to the theater to watch them.

I was somewhat hopeful when I heard that Total Recall didn't do very well (I didn't even waste my time bootlegging it), but so far it doesn't look like they're slowing down at all.

It's funny how people are complaining about remakes like it's some sort of new and/or recent phenomena. Truth to the matter is that Hollywood has been remaking movies for a long time, even as early as the 50's and 60's they were remaking movies, I think the only difference is that we're more aware of them now. Not that I entirely agree with doing so many remakes there is a very sound reason for them to do so and it has everything to do with money. With movies costing so much lately and with so many anticipated hits turning out to be flops the industry has gotten more risk adverse and is relying more than ever on remakes, sequels, and prequels in order to go for the closest thing there is to a sure thing.

It's just weird thinking that they are throwing so much money after these so-called safe investments, when they don't bother making them great. For the most part, they are mediocre at best - which is apparently and sadly good enough for them. If a little more was spent on the story and a little less on an superfluous amount of less than top quality CGI effects - using the CGI sparingly with quality over quantity in mind - they would likely get even HIGHER returns. It's weird that that apparently doesn't matter to them - it's just a "hit and run" mentality. They don't seem to care throwing garbage at us... as it seems... even garbage can be sold.

And what I'm seeing of RubberCop so far... it just seems like another round of garbage for the unquestioning masses.

Pity.
 
The movie industry itself needs a reboot , reinvent the wheel.

Originality should be priority, suspence and a refreshing storyline should be priority, a reboot/remake/revival should be about another perspective of the same story, or wait a few years longer.

The problem with Robocop is that it isn't Ripe enough for a reboot, a sequel would seem more logical to me to be honest.

The same goes for Dredd, Karl Urban is one of my favorite actors today, but I hate it sooo much that he isn't really recognizabe as Dredd, the version which it should have been , like the Icon he is.Sylvester Stallone didn't make the character look silly but he overdid it , Just like Arnold Schwartzenegger would overdo playing Duke Nukem, if he would've played that.

Robocop should've been left alone or be made into something way more refreshing and Original, maybe than it could be made into a different kind of Icon.I hate how the new Rottedcop looks now, it's like he's been taken over/possessed by the venom symbiote.


Even a zombie version of Robocop would seam more logical to me, and be played by Bruce Campbell, at least than it would be Original.....maybe even funny.

So remember a while back when we were talking about whether Robocop's face is real or latex? It's gotta be real. Just watched it again and the bullet entry scar is still there.
 
Yeah it's definitely real. I always took, even as a kid, the "they made this to honor him" comment to mean they rebuilt him, used his face as a monument to the fallen officer.

The new "suit" looks like garbage. Hollywood just can't leave what "was" good alone, can they. :thumbsdown

That's the problem that they ran into with Total Recall. The original was good.. it didn't need to be remade, everyone was perfectly happy with it the way it was. And the remake bombed.

Here's hoping the same thing happens to this film. Because there's nothing wrong with Robocop, it doesn't need to be remade.
