Robocop Reboot (Pre-release)

Oh, great. Robo-Butt: now even cheekier.

They should have paid more attention to the original blueprints, and why the original Robocop wokred:

When I watched Robocop last week, I specifically looked for the gunshot wound to his head that should have been visible when he took off his helmet at the abandoned mill. I don't think the wound was there anymore. There wasn't any sort of scar.

EDIT: I'm looking at screenshots, and now I think the download must have been crappy, and the tiny scar got washed out or something.

What made Robocop such a good movie was that it was no-bs.

Cop gets owned, cops comes back as robot, robot owns bad guys.

No bs. He doesn't get to go back to his family, he doesn't get to have a romantic partner of any kind, he just goes out, and does his job. Like a Robot.

Since the Robot is partially human, you get that twist in, that makes it turn into a classic.

The new one, from the trailer... oh boy...

I am not a sequel/reboot hater. I'm up for trying most things. I just don't know how you turn an R-rated Robocop into a rebooted PG-13 ironman.

This suit looks more like the medical exosuits that people want to make for paralyzed folks mixed with some armor on it. It's the next gen of that goofy suit in Elysium that they wore.

the prosthetic faux skin covered hand could be for various reasons such as touch pad technology that carries over to every day future functions vs post modern sci fi where everything was mechanical. It could even be so advanced that the faux skin could put off a synthetic DNA pattern to fool any encoded technology, just saying, not sayin thats what it is, just sayin it would make sense in that manner. Im no fan of reboots, whats the purpose, weve already seen it. I still prefer the Aronofsky Robocop where its still Peter Weller as the Robo we know yet 20/25 years have passed, his technology is beyond obsolete, he is literally housed in a closet and is self sustaining, still upholding the law...

I'd still like to see the one Miller wrote back as a draft of Robo 2 where he is knocked offline and wakes up in a distant future that is seemingly perfect.

He's a cyborg... he doesn't have wifi and bluetooth built into him so he doesn't have to to touch anything? Or a shiny silver shiv in his hand to link up instead of using fake fleshy fingers? How about a USB connection? Or are they dating this back to where he would still be SCSI or parallel port?

Now that you mention it the two stories do sound alike, just Demolition Man didn't have an AI running everything.

A lot of scripts and sequel scripts get reworked into entirely new movies. For instance, Predator was originally inspired by Rambo, and the writers wanted Sylvester Stallone to play Dutch. I've also heard that the scripts for Starship Troopers and I,Robot started as different movies. Based on what you said about Miller's script, I think it's likely it got reworked as Demolition Man. Also, the AI running everything sounds a lot like I,Robot. Could be a connection there.

you are missing the point, he may have all that built present day future based tech, but flesh and blood people do not. Therefore he has the capability to synthetically replicate any DNA strand on file, human or not, hence forth the prosthetic covered hand. This would also come in hand'y with present day future military technology being utilized by boots on the ground troops. DNA based software exists as we speak, same with DNA based weapons where they only function for the person they are programmed to (same as Judge Dredd).
In the end as I said time and again, this reboot wasnt needed or wanted. Just playing along with theories.

So is that what it is: a prosthetic "skinned" hand"? Or is that a theory? I must have missed the memo.

Which DNA-based weapons are we talking about here? Smart guns have yet to be built to the point of mass production. NJ said (not sure if it's still valid) that when they come up with a viable "smart gun" technology that can be made available to the consumer population they will put a law into effect making that the only way you can own a handgun... except police, because they don't want to put them at risk knowing the odds of failure.

That part always bothered me because when he turns to plug in the arm moves in such a way its obvious it's not even attached to his body.

yeah I Robot was basically the same story but when they got the rights to Asimov's book they changed a few things (nothing major) and added a couple characters from the short stories but that's all it has in common. It's like World war z: book name but that's about it.

I notice that too, but there are a bunch of things in special effects that always stand out as fake. The flaws in the effects of Robocop don't bother me. When Dick Jones falls out of the window, it's so obvious he's a puppet whose arms are really WAAAYYY too long. Also, when Robocop removes his helmet, the amount of make up on Peter Weller's head makes it obvious none of it would fit under the helmet. Also, the finger bones on the melting guy are really fat, as if his real fingers are underneath - which they are. You can also see the black leotard around Peter Weller's neck under the Robocop suit.

The scar's there, it's just hard to see in most shots, it's been filled in. I imagine the mold was taken after Murphy died (I'm in the camp that believes that Robo's "face" is artificial, just rubber/latex over an animatronic mechanical gizmo that makes it move).
