Robocop Reboot (Pre-release)

The original Robocop looked to be 95% robot, 5% human. (It was just his face, brain, and spinal cord right?)
The reboot looks to be 60% human, 40% robot. (I think its just a human with some modifications.)

*Those are just my opinion, and in no way represent actual mathematical measurements. lol

Yeah that was my biggest issue from the trailer. He's very human. Whereas in the original, his humanity comes out at the end, and you finally see his full face again, he returns to being Alex Murphy again in the third act instead of the pawn they wanted, it seems they've done away with all that now and he remains Alex Murphy the whole time.
Remakes don't have to follow the original exactly, but I just don't think that'll be as interesting as a man who becomes a machine, becoming a man again, rather than a man being controlled, trapped in a cyborg suit.
I fear it's going to be like the Total Recall remake. Visually impressive and well designed, but an uninteresting and soulless movie by the numbers.

Another reason the original worked well was the director let the actors make suggestions and they'd try them out to see if they worked. Clarence spitting on the paper in the police station and demanding his call was partly an idea by the actor suggested to the director who loved it. If the director's open to stuff like that magic can happen as the characters are more realistic.

I loved that part. He was so awesome in that movie. Sticking his gum on the receptionist's name plate was another nice touch. I think Clarence should have gotten more recognition as one of the best bad guys in history.

A review by someone who has actually seen the movie: [url)=http://makingstarwars.net/2013/09/movie-review-robocop-2014/]Movie Review: RoboCop (2014) | MakingStarWars.netMakingStarWars.net[/url]
Thanks! Interesting read.

I haven't seen the film but I am a little miffed he'd consider relating Robocop (1987)/Robocop (2014) to Batman (1989)/Batman Begins.
I'm one of those folks who saw Batman in 1989 and didn't like it at all. Even in 1989 I wanted the treatment that was realized in 2005 with Batman Begins. Back then very few people could understand what disappointed me about Batman - they thought it was a fine film. In 2005 was able to tell some of those folks, "That's what I was talking about back then. That's the film I wanted to see." .... sorry ADD kicking in.

My gut tells me he entered the film with very low expectations and was surprised that it had some palpable content. I perceive the review as a lukewarm one at best. I believe if the filmmaker(s) had a fully realized vision they wouldn't need to cop the Robocop name.

Remember when the animated film, Titan AE? If I recall correctly it was being marketed as "the next Star Wars." Big mistake. It's very difficult to appreciate Titan AE (for me even today) on it's on merits because of that hype.

Funny you mention Titan AE as i felt the same way, it had a lot of potential they never took advantage of and the hype killed it at the box office.

In the same style as my avatar, a little piece I call "Murphy's Law".

Titan AE is still one of my favorite films. I don't see how it could be related to Star Wars though.

That review gave me some hope. Thanks for posting it.

Never did get reviews though. That is the opinion of one person. One person reviewing and praising Hitler's third reich would make the place any better. Or how mythbusters proved you can polish a turd, but at the end of the day, it's still just a turd ;)

I was never exposed to that hype-machine, thankfully so I was able to see it for what it is. Really liked it. I was expecting a sequel though :p

Without the pain, poignant sense of loss, haunting barely-there memories of what was lost, and the deep regret and agony of knowing that he can 'never go home', THAT is what made the first Robocop so awesome.
True. Half the movie is about him starting to remember little flashes of what came before. One of my favorite lines from the film is near the end when he asks Lewis what happened to his family, and he even did so in the third person.. he says "Murphy had a wife and son." not "I had a wife and son", and then he says "I can feel them. But I can't remember them." and then asks to be alone for a while. Really good scene.

Looks like all of that is just thrown out the window now.

He refers to himself as Murphy by the end of Robocop 1, and in the end of Robocop 2 he makes the statement "We're only human," but when he gets to talk to his wife in the beginning of Robocop 2, he makes the sacrifice and sends her away saying he doesn't know her when he actually does, so she can move on for her own good, and for the good of his son. That is a tough move to make. Im sure he really wants to be Robodad.

And perhaps for the better. We don't need a rehash of the story. What was relevant in that story in the 80's worked. No need to tread the exact same story. Now this one will have a tweak where he can use his hand to...:eek

He's gonna do sassy gestures with his naked hand.
