Robocop Reboot (Pre-release)

Actually, here's a concept that I like A LOT better than what we're seeing:

It's not great, but heck....at least it pays tribute to the original...

So much for the robotic motion restrictions that also defined Robocop:

And here's a thought - I bet the helmet flips closed from the back (maybe CGI) but I bet there will be a lot of face time - check these shots out and see what you think:

....you know what, I just figured it out. Something about this has seem really familiar...and it hit me...he looks like the character from the old arcade game E-Swat:

:thumbsup That was an awesome game.

And future Robocop should be pretty agile. We're talking about present day criminals, not 80's style neo-punk's with huge mohawks.

To an extent sure but the whole appeal of Robocop was that he was a tank on two legs. He can be slow but he's still gonna take you out.

Today's criminals are no smarter than they were in the 80's. ;)

What's with the "auto 9" - it looks like a 92 with a huge ass attachment on the front - like the didn't even try to hide it - straight 92 back and bulbous front - that's at least what it wools like to me.

I like the suit - but I agree that the exposed hand looks pretty retarded.

As far as the robotic motion - it was probably more of a necessity rather than a plot device really - big bulky 80s tech - had to be a real bear to move in. Also - big bulky robots were a sign of the times in the 80s - makes sense that the reboot would have him be more agile. Changing tech for changing times. Big bulky robot is NOT a 2012 thing.

In theory, you're definitely right. But if you look at animatronic tech today, there's still a stiff, swinging robotic motion to, um, robots. So I would guess if someone actually made a real Robocop tomorrow, he would still move like the 80's version, especially if it was heavy and armored up to withstand gunfire and assault.

Which is what makes it believable. As fun as Iron Man is you don't watch and honestly believe that we could do that now. Robocop is supposed to live in the real world, I want some real world treatment.

We'll have to see some video before we can actually determine anything though.

Wasn't Peter Weller talking about having RoboCop move more fluidly before he saw the suit, and had to change everything because of it?

If so it just shows why the suit is so important. Robocop is not Iron Man, he's ROBOCOP. He shouldn't be doing flips or flying or any of that crap, he should be the slow relentless enforcement of the law. That's the character, the movement reinforces that.

Yeah, Weller realized the movements he had worked out with the choreographer didn't eork once he put on the suit so they had to design a whole new set of movements.
