Rey - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Build (open for everyone!)

dang, that's a pretty sweet looking blaster for $20! Good job on the finish, i'm planning on trying rub-buff on mine too. Have you not put the trigger and the safety on it yet?

Nope. It's not assembled yet, because I still need to get screws and more superglue. This is just a progress pic :]

Indeed, I made mine from scratch from bend copper.

Hi everyone, I am Hedi and I am new here. Found this place the other day while searching for some DIY tips for my Rey costume.

This thread helped a lot. Especially the close-ups together with the DIY instructions turned out to be very useful.

But unfortunately I wasn’t able to figure out, yet what the 4 side clips of the goggles are made of.
And I would like to know what kind of metal tubule is suitable to build the rangefinder.

Couldn’t find the answers in this thread. With over seventy pages it’s simply to long check every posting for useful information.

I am glad to having found this board and I would appreciate every hint.
Sometimes small little hints can be extremely helpful. Yesterday for example I found out that they actually used a jumper as head wrap. This little piece of information was extremely useful. Made it so much easier to create and put on the headdress.

Hello!! I'm technically new here, but I've been following this thread for months now, looking for resources for my w.i.p. Rey.
I've been cosplaying for years now and this is my new project, started in early November. It took some time, but I eventually (and finally) finalized it last night.
Here are some pictures of how it turned out.

I really wanted to thank everyone who contributed, in any way, to this thread - it has been INCREDIBLY helpful.

Hello, all! Progress is slow, and on multiple pieces at a time, but I have my first finished piece!

I made the belt pouch a few inches longer in order to be able to stash my disassembled staff in it. If/when I get the leather backpack (right now my target is basic outfit for C2E2, full scavenger gear for summer cons), I'll probably cut it down to make it more screen accurate.

Once again, HUGE thanks to the lovely founder and contributors of this thread. I lucked out and spotted a just-right British canvas pack at the local surplus store. I forgot to take pics between deconstructing it and cutting the pieces, but the middle photo gives the general idea.

Reassembled (where not handstitched -- I swear, Star Wars has necessitated more dyeing and handstitching than everything else in my costuming life put together!) with my old workhorse Kenmore, heavy-duty upholstery thread, and a 90 gauge leather needle.

More coming soon as it's completed (and around designing a production of Arabian Nights, which will provide a use for the first failed attempt at the wrap dress)...

Thank you Jec! They look very good.

Today I was in a store similar to the US Home Depot. While walking through the shelves I developed another idea how to build those clips:

- Model a clip in plaster and let it harden. (Don't care about the tunnel for the cord at this point).
- Cover it with silicon to create a dimensionally stable, flexible hollow form.
- When the silicon has hardened cut it open at a noncritical area and remove the plaster.
- Fill the silicon form with self-hardening plastic. Use the form 4 times.
- Create the tunnels with a mini-drill.
- Colour the 4 clips.

As only very little material is needed for this procedure it might be a good idea to contact a local dental laboratory. When they have a sense of humor they will be of help. At least, that is the impression I gathered here in Germany.

[...] The Han, Finn, Rey, Leia and Trooper costumes from El Cap couldn't be procured because of overlap with the exhibits. And still no Skellig Island Rey. [...]

I am a bit puzzled by this. What do they mean by "costumes from El Cap"? The evening dresses they wore at the premiere?

And it's a pity that they cannot provide the Skellig Island Rey costume. I really liked it in the movie. That is even something I would wear in everyday live.
So if anyone has clear photos of the Skellig Island Rey costume, it would be great if they could share them.

The back side of it is curved.

Oh yes, I know. I still think that the original clips are parts of some kind of buckles. For example from ski shoes or rucksacks. Those usually have a curved back side.

I know about the theater. But what kind of Star Wars costumes are associated with this cinema and not shown in the movie itself?
I mean, there are three Rey costumes mentioned.

The Rey Jakku costume. That's the one this thread ist all about.
A Rey costume from El Cap, which will be not available at the exhibit.
And the Rey Skellig costume.

But I only can think of two Rey costumes from the movie. Am I getting something wrong??

So here is what i've come up with for goggle lights. These are inexpensive options, that are similar in size but would need to be modified to look screen accurate. Obviously the keychains would need to be removed.

Coast light about 2.5 inches and uses hearing aid type battery cells. I ordered this one because it has a push switch instead of turning the end. I will probably put a casing over it and paint it. Will know more after it comes in.

Another coast light in silver, i think this is skinnier than the black one. Might be good if you dont want to fully repaint.

Different brand silver light that uses a push switch

Black housing with a unique shape. This one you have to turn the end for on/off but it uses a standard aaa battery.

Another one with twist on / off. This one claims to be the brightest for its size and the clip appears to be removable.

Nebo nanolight. Silver housing with a twist on off, this one has a protruding bulb sort of like the movie version. Might be good if you dont want to do any painting or modifying to it.

Hope this info helps.

Hedi, El Capitan has costumes on display downstairs. They had 2 troopers – regular and snow, Han, Leia (dress), Rey (Jakku) and Fin (w/jacket), and BB8.

The costume at FIDM (Fashion Institute) is the Rey Jakku costume, I guess another copy of it. There are apparently multiples of it. So it really just meant that the costumes at El Capitan couldn't move to FIDM, but it is the same Rey costume.

The Skellig Island costume is not being shown anywhere that I have seen, nor has Luke's costume. My thought is that they consider both these costumes more from Episode VIII than VII and so are saving them.

FIDM is showing these only:

Phasma
Kylo Ren
Finn Trooper with blooded helmet
Rey Jakku
Resistance fuller alien
Maz bar alien

Ah ok, makes sense. Thank you!

I am a complete rookie in the field of movie costumes/ cosplays. It's just that I had tasted blood with this movie. After watching Star Wars VII my partner said to me, that I would look cute in a Rey costume. ;-) And when I found out later that we actually watched Star Wars VII not far from "Jakku", I was hooked. We were located in a desert city of Abu Dhabi for professional reasons in Dec. 2015.
