Rey Alternate Outfit? (possible spoilers)

So I made the vest and gauntlets in cotton!!! What do you guys think?

I need to remake the pants to make the SA, make a new belt as I whipped this one together for an event this past weekend, and update the boots.

Looks very nice! Are you using interfacing around your collar?

So I lined the whole thing in black felt, but I used some of the cotton in the collar over the felt. I'm going to go back and actually sandwich the felt between another layer of the cotton, making the felt the interfacing, if that makes sense!

Try a piece of interfacing in there. I added it to ours and it took all the wrinkles out of the collar. I used extra firm from walmart off the bolt....was about $1. I just stitched it in between the layers. I also put some on the elbow end of the gauntlets to stiffen up that area.

Okay, this is version 4.0 of my vest. I have a problem, I know lol. I lined this one in grey instead of black. I honestly think I should line it in the herringbone, but I'm going by RL standards for the moment.

I put up the holster pattern and info here
https://emeraldb.com/2016/04/23/star-wars-rey-resistance-costume-part-1-blaster-holster/

info on the leather and dying for the belt is here
https://emeraldb.com/2016/06/14/star-wars-rey-costume-part-5-reys-belt/

i used 4/5 oz leather half shoulder from tandy leather. It will be plenty to do both pieces. Just get one that has about 50+ inches across to give you plenty for the hip part of the belt, longer the better.

Also, the latest pics and figure show that the thigh strap may use 2 of those rings instead of just 1.

....i'm actually working on a write up about the bag which should be up in the next couple of weeks with the pieces i used to make it, in case you need some info on that too.

What is the joann fabric you got for the shirt?

THANK YOU FOR THIS AGAIN!!! I just ordered my supplies from Tandy. I spent hours researching the belt and holster, and almost commissioned someone to make me a set, but in the end, your write up made me decide to spend the money and make it, as I REALLY want my costume to pass RL standards. Now I just have to fix my pants, and get the fabric to cover my boots. I'm holding off on the staff and bag until I can save up to get a print of the staff and have more time to make a bag. I have a bag I can use for non RL events, so that will work for now. I think I'd rather save for the saber lol.

this thread is amazing. Thank you guys for all the help. I have a question for Redwillow though. Where did you get the fabric for your bag/ what kind is it. Also what is the brown straps you have sewn onto the front of the bag? Your bag is seriously perfect. Thanks for the help!!

Thank you.
it is just od green canvas. I bought a backpack with the intention of modifying it, but i ended up just tearing it down and re doing the whole thing. The strap pieces on it i made from the piping i ripped off the bag. It was the rothco mini alice backpack from amazon.

i have finished the write up with all the info on how i made it and i am hoping to have it uploaded this weekend for you guys.

Oh I look forward to that, Redwillow!
Redid the lining in the vest with a color that is closer to the outside of the vest. I'm very happy with it!

I also finally got around to modifying my boots!

Today I start on the belt! Wish me luck!!! I'm scared! eep!

I just want to comment that I've been a long lurker in this thread, and I appreciate all the information in here. I have had to put this outfit off for longer than I wanted to or I'd join in sooner - though I've been slowly collecting fabric to make this. Maybe before the year is out I can have her done.

How did you do the extra stitching on the collar and back seams? Is it sewn together differently then hand sewn after? It looks fantastic!

Also Redwillow, thank you so much for taking the time to make such helpful guides!

I really want this vest, but I have very little sewing abilities and so far I've had no luck on etsy or a cosplay site I looked at. If anyone here can point me in a good direction or would be interesting in doing a commission, please let me know! It's for halloween, so I am not too worried about minor details for this occasion. I read the community guidelines before posting this and I think its ok, sorry if it's not.

PM me, I take commissions.
