Rey Alternate Outfit? (possible spoilers)

Okay, for giggles and grins, I looked back at the JoAnn's site for fabric and was excited to see that they have a grey herringbone available! It's in cotton, but a great cheap alternative to wool if you cannot afford it. I'm going by there and will post photos of it in person. Here is the link on the site

that's a pretty good find, the pic looks very similar in color to the wool we used. I bet at $9.99 / yard (plus I think you can use their coupons on it), that looks like a great option.

What a find! The color looks amazing. I suppose a feel test would prove whether or not it would be a good fit. But based on looks, I love the match. Thank you for sharing!

Went to Joann's first thing this morning to check out the great find http://www.joann.com/plaid-brush-cotton-herringbone-black/15010531.html

The herringbone is too small & it's a snuggle cotton blend.
Image shows the JoAnn Fabric on the left, and my wool swatch on the right.
Great for a budget build and feels more comfy than wool :)

I've tapped out Prairie Woolen and etsy for the wool herringbone gray fabric. Anyone recommend another resource please?

I can't recommend the Dorr Mill Store enough!!! I used them for the wool for my last commission and was SO happy with their customer service. They didn't have the exact shade I wanted at the time for that Rey vest, so I ended up dying it, however, it looks like now they have the perfect shade in stock. They make their own products, so my guess is that they heard our cries and started producing what we needed! It's number 616. I hope that helps!

Thank you for the recommendation!! I just ordered some!

Two things! I need to make her belt and holster.

1.) Suggestions on where to buy leather and what length

2.) Anyone have a pattern for her holster? I thought I saw one somewhere but I can't remember where. I have a pattern for the belt, just need one for the holster.

On another note, I went to JoAnn's and picked up the cotton. Yes, the weave pattern is smaller, but it is SUPER soft. I am going to use it to line my vest so it doesn't rub up against my skin too badly, and then buy the wool from Door Mill. I know the color isn't going to match entirely, but I don't think that's going to matter and no one is really going to see it. Honestly, I totally would make a whole vest from this stuff as it is SUPER soft, and I'm really contemplating going back to buy more! For reference, I bought a yard and a half, which was enough for the vest, and to line the gauntlets if so desired. Really, you would only need a yard if you wanted to just use this stuff to line your vest.

The other fabrics I purchased were for her shirt, and the darker off white/cream is for my own version of the HerUniverse Rey cardigan that Hot Topic carried a few months ago. I really wanted one, but I wasn't about to shell out $50 for one, so I decided to attempt to make my own.

I put up the holster pattern and info here
https://emeraldb.com/2016/04/23/star-wars-rey-resistance-costume-part-1-blaster-holster/

info on the leather and dying for the belt is here
https://emeraldb.com/2016/06/14/star-wars-rey-costume-part-5-reys-belt/

i used 4/5 oz leather half shoulder from tandy leather. It will be plenty to do both pieces. Just get one that has about 50+ inches across to give you plenty for the hip part of the belt, longer the better.

Also, the latest pics and figure show that the thigh strap may use 2 of those rings instead of just 1.

....i'm actually working on a write up about the bag which should be up in the next couple of weeks with the pieces i used to make it, in case you need some info on that too.

What is the joann fabric you got for the shirt?

Howdy folks! I need to make the holster for someone, but I'm worried that the 3d print of the blaster I'm working off of is too small? Are there different size prints out there? I apologize if this has already been covered somewhere else but I was hoping some of you folks with a Rey blaster could weigh in here on the approx length/size of your blaster. The print I am working off of is just shy of 11" overall.

Yes, they vary in size. I would strongly suggest gaving the actual blaster in hand when you do the holster. Opening needs to be snug to hold the blaster in place correctly.

Dude I was just about to ask about the blaster sizing!!! Does anyone know what the screen accurate size is? I'm thinking it's around 10 inches, but I'm not sure. Thanks!!!

I don't know the accurate size, but I'm pretty sure I saw some lengthy discussion about it over in the thread for the blaster, so you might want to check there.

Anyone able to give me a measurement of the pattern in their herringbone fabric? 1/2 inch? Wider? Trying to get a better idea of what I should be looking for when shopping online.

Thought you were going with that steel wool fabric?

I can take a pic of a ruler on it if you need.

Personal life has kind of crept up and blocked me from actually purchasing anything for this project yet, unfortunately. So I've still been gathering options and doing lots of research since I haven't had time or space to create anything just yet.

If you have time to take a quick pic, I'd appreciate it! Thank you, Redwillow!

The picture on the right is from Prairie Woolen, and the one of the left is the #616 from the Door Mill.
Hope that helps :D

Wow, so the praire woolen is darker than the 616?...or is it just the picture?

...the entire /\ shape looks like a little over 1 1/8"

working on pants, 1 leg down, 1 to go. Made the kneepads with a separation between each section and I'm doing a seam between the lower and upper sections of the legs.

Liking this color...it's green, but can look gray or brown depending on the light.

Thank you so much, xspungerz and RedWillow! That helps me a ton, and I appreciate it.

The pants are looking great, btw. Love the color, too.
