I'm thinking of scratch-building myself one of those bags and am busy putting the pattern together.
Here is a couple of thoughts:
I agree with @
kristenhenry70, that bag is a mess!
I think however that it is not wider at the top but that there are something thick stuffed into the bottom, causing it to belly out.
I'm going to use cotton duck canvas dyed light brown/khaki. The color looks more ww1. The canvas has quite a bit of flex to it.
I think it is made from 2 different colors of brown canvas. The bottom darker than the top. This could be from the lighting and the bottom could be made from ?dark leather?. Though why you would do that is a question.

The strap is a thicker sling than the staff, stitched to a wider flat piece of ?webbing or canvas?
The side stitches ends before the opening casing it flap a lot bigger than the lid-flap was made for. There is no seam stitched around the mouth

The clasps on the bag is way to strong for just a bag. They look like they belong to a safety belt or parachute.

From what I see it looks like this:

That's it for now. What do you think? What have I gotten wrong? Where can I find those clasps?
