Rey Alternate Outfit? (possible spoilers)

View attachment 586728

The buckle attaching the strap to the pack looks like those used for the OT X-Wing pilots belt.

If not the exact one than very similar. Rey's buckle looks like it gets narrower at one end while the X-Wing one doesn't. But it could just be the photo angle.

JJ...did that come from Joatrash? I should have my kit within a week or two... VERY excited.

There aren't very many good pics of the holster out there *yet*. As soon as we get some hi res screencaps it will be easier. there are a few spots when she's climbing the steps at the end that it can be seen rather well.

Nope, this one is SLS-printed from sintered nylon. Same method we used for the Master on our F-11D blaster rifle.

Did any of you get the Piper shoes? Do they run larger? I know my wife's shoes size, I want to surprise with them but get the right size, she is in the 39.5-40 size Eur, PM if you got some and dont want to post here, I saw they are sold out but may get more in.

I'm thinking of scratch-building myself one of those bags and am busy putting the pattern together.
Here is a couple of thoughts:

I agree with @kristenhenry70, that bag is a mess!

I think however that it is not wider at the top but that there are something thick stuffed into the bottom, causing it to belly out.

I'm going to use cotton duck canvas dyed light brown/khaki. The color looks more ww1. The canvas has quite a bit of flex to it.

I think it is made from 2 different colors of brown canvas. The bottom darker than the top. This could be from the lighting and the bottom could be made from ?dark leather?. Though why you would do that is a question.

The strap is a thicker sling than the staff, stitched to a wider flat piece of ?webbing or canvas?

The side stitches ends before the opening casing it flap a lot bigger than the lid-flap was made for. There is no seam stitched around the mouth

The clasps on the bag is way to strong for just a bag. They look like they belong to a safety belt or parachute.

From what I see it looks like this:

That's it for now. What do you think? What have I gotten wrong? Where can I find those clasps?

Thats a cobra clip...was used on Pre Production Fett....took us years to track down the right one...but someone found it last year. And theyre VERY expensive vintage ejection seat harness buckles

Here is the thread....looks like it is a version of it.

great info! Looks like the other pieces may be Martin baker also. I think this may be the front strap attachment piece:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Martin-Bake...103741?hash=item2ee935a97d:g:sroAAOSwFL9TurPY

Unfortunately it does not look very promising to acquire these parts in the US, plus expensive. Will have to find substitutes..

Indeed...although I THINK someone designed them in CAD so they could be printed....more to come on that once I talk to him about that...Maybe even resin casts of an original piece.

Here is what i have on the holster based on the figure, which seems to match what we are seeing in the movie pics.

holster1.jpg holster2.jpg holster3.jpg holster4.jpg holster5.jpg

here is my sketch of what i am seeing, sorry i'm not much of an artist:

holster6.jpg

1 - this is on top and separates the barrel and the smaller part under it. I'm guessing this loops around to the back and probably keeps the thigh strap in place. It may also just be one long piece that goes up the back and loops over the top to hang from the belt, but that is just speculation, since we can't see the back of it.

2- this is the smaller rectangular shaped right side flap that is sandwiched in the middle

3 - this is the larger sloping left flap that is in the back where the 3 parts overlap. I think from where it folds to the bottom of the holster is probably no more than 3 inches - the approximate size of the blaster body.

On the figure and in at least one of the movie pics, you can see some attachment method for the thigh strap on the front of her thigh. But i cannot tell how it works, if it is a buckle, or something snap-like, or just studs with holes. I can't tell.

Check the pics and let me know what you guys think.

I was wondering if the clips holding the straps onto the bag could be like the one on the backpack that Luke carries Yoda in on Dagobah. But I can't figure out what they are.

Theyre Martin Baker stuff for sure...think about her stuff. Its cobbled together stuff from Jakku...an Air Craft grave yard...all those seats and harnesses to scavenge. In survival school our instructors had made tons of bags like that out of seats/parachutes/harnesses...its basically the same idea...

Can someone link me to the Martin Baker stuff you guys are talking about. My dad casts reproduction parts, so I can talk to him and maybe we can work together and try to reproduce these parts for the bag.

...ok I might have something on the holster thigh strap. Looking at this picture:

rrey13.jpg

I see 3 metal areas. I think the left is a snap-like connector that holds the 2 ends together, the middle is metal end on the strap, and the right is the square sliding size adjustment like on the sling but smaller. If all that is correct, i'm wondering if the strap may not be leather? It might be canvas and look just like the strap part from the hip bag...only longer and with the 2 ends being attached with a snap and an added size adjustment. I don't think you normally see metal ends on leather straps, usually canvas.

Let me know what you guys think.

update:
here is a work-up of what I think I am seeing in this pic:

hol.jpg

The more I look at it, I don't think the thigh strap is attached to the holster, because of how it is sitting in this pic. I think it just goes through the loop to keep the lower part of the holster from flapping around against her leg.

The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising's "Art of Motion Picture Costume" exhibit opens tomorrow in LA.

Exhibit Info

Confirmed Star Wars costumes are:

Phasma
Kylo Ren
Finn Trooper with blooded helmet
Rey Jakku
Resistance fuller alien
Maz bar alien

The Han, Finn, Rey, Leia and Trooper costumes from El Cap couldn't be procured because of overlap with the exhibits. And still no Skellig Island Rey.

There is also Mad Max and Cinderella, Hateful 8 and Hamlet, Revenant and many more. This is always a fantastic exhibit, and photography is allowed (no flash).

This is pretty new info...as I just pointed out. You can try and narrow down the specific parts and go from there. BUT with what little high rez pics of this there are its a shot in the dark. theres definately 1 cobra clip on the bag... like the one on Fetts cape/shoulder in preproduction

Having a look at the clip it does not seem to be a cobra clip. The cobra looks too small, but perhaps that is just a function of hand size. Are the prop guys known to source extensive, almost impossible to come by fittings?

Its definitely something like that...pretty sure its an aviation piece since there was so many downed Ties and Xwings on Jakku it makes sense for her to have made the bag out of parachute packs and such. The straps on the Ties were about 3 ish inches across like the one on her bag...just like shoulder harnesses in air craft. And yes...typically YES....welcome to our nightmare...there are items on boba fett we have still not figured out 30 years later.

Damn, I'm new in the Starwars game. Learning more everyday.
Some not all of the stuff in TFA is found parts...Im FAIRLY certain the buckles are found items...and that they are from Aircraft...Look up martin baker on ebay or google and youll see all kinds of the buckles

I've been following this thread and love all the information everyone has already provided. And those who have made the vest already, wow! Great job. I'm still a bit of a novice when it comes to sewing and especially pattern making. I've made patterns for holsters and a couple simple pieces of clothing like Dany's Dothraki top from Game of Thrones, but I have no idea where to start with this vest.

Is anyone able/willing to post a pattern to follow for making the vest?
