Rey Alternate Outfit? (possible spoilers)

Just started construction! Here's the shirt. The Jalie 2910 pattern is perfect. I purchased the fabric at Calico Corners. 100% Cotton and the weave matches the on screen photo. May need to do a "tea bath"....

First of all, a big thank you to everyone in this thread. I've been lurking and following along, as well as doing my own research on this costume. I absolutely love this look, and I'd love to attempt to recreate it. We'll see how that goes.

This pattern is simply awesome! What a find, and thank you for sharing! I do have a question, though. I read (and saw) that you added the back yoke. I love this detail, but I was wondering what picture you found of Rey that allowed us to see this? I've been hunting and hunting with no luck to figure out what this undershirt looks like. Thank you in advance. :)

Thanks! All the research was done either on this thread or over at the Legion, so I can't take any credit :$
Someone saw the yoke from a behind the scene montage. The picture is grainy, but you can see the distinct line. The yoke is not in the pattern.

FYI, for those who are also in Rebel Legion, the costume standards are up over there for open debate for the next week or so. They look good so far, but if you wanna give your two cents, now is the time to speak or forever hold your piece! I had to make a note of two adjustments to the standard, but there might be more I missed.

thx for posting that. I've started my 1st mock up of the vest, but still looking for fabric to use for the final version.

I don't have an account over there to post it, but I don't think the pants are brown. They look more like a dark olive grayish / khaki color to me. In this picture, you can see the pants color next to the brown holster and strap....and you can see the color looks more in the family of the staff sling or olive bag than brown like the holster & strap.

do you know if any stores in FL sell the Jalie patterns?

Also I saw the vest you did on your facebook, looks awesome! did you use a pattern for that?

Thanks! Unfortunately, the vest isn't 501st. Had a hard time finding the right fabric & the peplum didn't turn out so well ... so it's now a fan-based costume. I purchased the pattern for the vest and shirt on eBay. The vest pattern is out of print, but still affordable

Do you know what fabric was used and where it came from? That vest is very impressive.

I'll see if I can get her source. Stand by!

This is material: http://www.sprucelondon.com/arundel-herringbone-fabric-light-grey.html

It is expensive, but it is the closest thing to screen-used Mirror Universe could find. At the current exchange rate, the £49.64 is $72.76. That is per yard. I believe it was 3 yards for the vest and gauntlets.

thx for checking, very helpful. Won't be an option for me due to the cost and UK shipping, but at least I know what to shoot for and how much they used.

Right now I'm slowing working toward making a mock up out of gray felt. I've made 2 versions from junk fabric to try and get the collar and seams right on it.

Yeah, it was one of those "how accurate do I want it?" moments for me. I went for ultra-accurate. But there are certainly MUCH cheaper and high quality options.

Best of luck. :)

that's not bad. I don't think any panels are more than 18" on mine, so 18x28 pieces would work......wouldn't have to pay for it by the yard.

I finally found a herringbone fabric on etsy that I was excited about and messaged the seller asking if she had yardage available, and she responded:
"Hi [tasteewheat's real name], so sorry but have sold out of all my yardage to Star Wars enthusiasts."

YOU GUYS. *shakes fist* :lol

So here's where I'm at on this:

vest1.jpg vest2.jpg vest3.jpg

This is the mock up I've done in felt to try to get my pattern right. It has the back princess seams that stop at the peplum, integrated collar with the 2 collar seams, plus the peplum seam all around. Having zero sewing experience, I had to completely teach myself how to use a sewing machine and work with a pattern to make this. Of course the "simplicity" pattern was pretty much anything but. The changes it needed added up to redoing the entire thing so I had to scrap it and make my own new pattern that had all the seams in the right place. I was to able get the general size and shape of panels from it, but that's all. I have a pile of Frankenstein looking mock ups on the floor I did from scrap fabric trying to get things to fit right.

The gauntlets are on the wrong arms in these pics, when flipped around, the long part sits correctly on the back of the arm instead of the side.

Looking at the shoulder pads, I think I may have to adjust the pattern to bring them lower in the front, they look too high to me.
People who know how to sew, try not to laugh too hard!
