Remote Power

I am building a Martian War Machine and want to hang it from the ceiling. I need to know the best way and what to use to turn it on and off using a remote. I am using a dc battery pack for power.

Is it possible to integrate IR to the power supply? If so there are a number of options. I'm in the AV industry and work for an automation company. I've had to integrate with a number of products for control. pM me with details, or post here and I can point you in the right direction.
