REF PICS OF THE AT-AT

Hmmmm. I have not been E-mailed back either

I just received my kit from Ronny, the AT-AT is outstanding! You don't appreciate it's size until you see it. The castings were all well done and the resin used seems to be the higher quality stuff like Backlot Studios used on the TIE Bomber & CC used on the X-wing.

Dan

The resin he uses is very high grade with no shrinkage, so that the peices still fit togheter nicely.

METAMORPHIC

Here's a couple of pics of how my scratch built side lasers turned out. The barrels and upper details are from the correct Flackvierling 2cm kit, the rest was scratch built. It's kind of hard to make out any details on the ILM model cause they all seem casted (and rather poorly) from a master.

Well, I did my best to get them as close as I could.

Well, finally got my new digital camera and took some progress pics of my AT-AT. Not as far along as others but getting there. I made some web pages that you can view my progress. Here's the link AT-AT

If you drag each pic to a viewer, you can see them much larger and with more detail.

Rolando

Hey, the back looks great! I'm working on the butt tub at the moment myself. I'm very happy to see that it fits fine on the kit, I was a bit affraid that it would be to small.

Nice work Rolando!

Steve.

Thanks Steve, once you get the kit bashed parts in place and the shields added, it should look fine.

I'm still working on that belly though. I need to do some surgery.

The back is looking really nice !!!! What "mods" are you making to the belly, using the harrier parts?

Dan

Thanks Dan, yes I'll be using the Harrier engine to replace the kits drive engine. I've also replaced the belly area with the Saturn V parts. I'll also be building a new center box for that area with Hex bolt side details. Once I get more progress done on the body I'll add more pics to the album.

Rolando,
Do you think the kit is worth the money as a Studio Scale model (even if it doesn't matches the actual studio scale miniiature).

I mean, the kit is not cheap at all and I see from Steve and you that it need quite a lot of work to make it really studio accurate (after seeing your TIE bomber and Captain Carboard X-wing I'm kind of spoiled and just want near perfect kits!)

Thanks for your help.

Sergio

Sergio,

Though Steve and I are detailing this model with actual kitbashed parts, the model in itself can hold it's own in my opinion if you're not that picky. I feel that if you were to tackle building one from scratch it would cost more and take up a lot more time, and for me time is money. You have to make that determination for yourself.

There's really only two options at this point if you want a Studio Scale AT-AT. You can make one from scratch, or you can get this kit and detail it as Steve and others are doing. If you can afford it, I say get it! It'll save you a lot of time and materials from scratching it.

If anyone likes what I've done so far on mine, give a hollar on here and I'll explain what I did. I'm sure Steve will chime in also with any tips.

Rolando

Just whick kit are all you guys talking about? Having just completed my SMT AT-AT, I know that thatone is different.

Yeah, I agree with Rolando, the kit is worth the money! This is the first studio scale model that I have built and first I was going to build it straight out of the box but when I saw what Rolando did to his I decided to make my own upgraded parts too. Making all the scratch built parts is what really makes this project fun IMO.

Rolando, I'm curently building a new "butt tub" and I've used all the correct Tamiya kits. However, on the tub itself (not the details) I only used half of the armoured car body and scratched the rounded bottom from styrene and milliputt. Yours however seems to use a kit part for the bottom half?! what kit is this from? I was under the impression that ILM scratch built the bottom?! But when I examend some close up's it looks like it was a kit part glued together with German car body.

Steve.
