R2D2 Build - 2/3 the size

Thank you guys! I'll be really happy to get back to work on it again. It keeps getting pushed back and stalled. Not enough hours in the day.

This is such a cool build, from what I've seen so far the craftsmanship is amazing and I can't wait to see more! :D

Its been a while since you last posted. Was wondering where you were in the process of creating kits and what the cost would be.

Me too Sofa King, this has been a long time project, and every time I think we are getting to the end, we hit a snag, or find some additional way to make something. however, we do have kits available for the items we have made, and they are currently out in a few of your hands. Just let me know.

Katarnar, the outer shell of the body on the current droids is a 12" Diameter Sewage drain pipe. Its tough stuff to work with though. We had to build a router table and then route out the panel detail. It was painful work and took a long time. The result leaves you with a very strong body though, which is a plus.

I am currently working on one out of styrene, and that is much easier to use overall.

Hello all, it has been a damn long while since I have had anything worthy of posting in any number of the 10 billion projects I have started in this forum. And although this is not specifically my build, but more of my fathers this is definitely worth posting. This little "quick project" that started out as wanting an R2 serving table for my poker room turned into a 5 year long process. I never realized and I know my father didn't either, just how much detail and unique parts that our beloved droid had. Nor did either of us realize just how long it would take to "Scratch" build such a project.

I am just about as proud and honored to have a father with so much talent as i can be. He truly is an artist and a craftsman. We have several other droids lying around in various states of completion, plans to build in modes of remote control, additional lighting, and of course the original plan to have a serving tray mounted on these little guys to support beverages and snacks while we waste away our credits at the poker table. But for now I present our Smugglers Room Version of R2!

Thanks for all your support and positive comments along the way. It is much appreciated!!!
