Question for those who have tackled Star Wars costumes...

Was just interested in the opinions of those who have attempted
(and not neccessarily succeeded or finished) some of the main
Star Wars characters with regards to difficulty.

Who is the hardest most difficult to do based on all the factors?

I have always presumed TK's to be relatively easy - but looking more
in depth recently I have become aware of some of the tedious
trimming and velcro work that goes into it.

Is C-3P0 easier than Darth?

Would love to know your opinions and stories.
:thumbsup

Darth is easier then C-3po because there are more dealers of parts ie more options and you can have somewhat of a varying body type to wear the costume and look good.

C-3po has only a few makers, the cost is very high (more then a great Darth) and you have to be Anthony Daniels sized to wear it.

Most of the main costumes ones: Han, Luke, Leia, Lando are easy costumes. It's more about having the right body type and a face and hair to match that character.

As far as man-hours put into working on one, pretty much everyone will tell you Boba Fett is the hardest to do. Since I've built a Boba, and a number of other Star Wars costumes as well, I fully agree.

Lot of particular details that make a proper looking Boba Fett. I agree with this. ^

VERY TRUE, but I think it is the most rewarding! Whenever there is a 501st appearance, everyone loves the Fett :). Most people are really excited to see troopers or clones, but people will go crazy for Vader and Boba.

Having a done a Fett, I can agree with the man hours plus the monetary costs to go along with it. TK/TD also mildly difficult and costly depending on your source and degree of accuracy. Having also done a Luke Bespin and Han ANH I can also say that having these costumes done with museum quality and uber accuracy is also costly, but again very cool to own. I'm working on a TS now, and it's easily the least expensive and easiest to work on in terms of Troopers. The Vader's have been priced out of my range after my latest project, but then the accuracy and quality are bar none with where they were even 5 years ago....this goes for the Fett also. And don't forget the accompanying weapon which can cost a buttload depending on your desire for an authentic weapon...say a Sterling, MG34, Webley, whereas a replica cuts that down to a fraction.

Hope that helps :)

Gotta toss in my vote for Boba being extremely difficult to make accurately
Vader and Threepio would also be difficult and expensive too
it all comes down to doing it right

but...
Vader gets all the love when we do events
Boba gets a little, but they all go for Vader

Boba is defiantly hard, but 8-10 years ago when i started doing this is was 1000x harder. Barely any quality reference photos, lack of parts and dealers. I would say its defiantly the hardest but its become much easier with plethora of pictures, prop makes, and information we have regarding this suit now N days.

I would have answered this question with Boba Fett until I had to build a Zam Wesell.; so far that's the most difficult one I've done.

Emperor Palpatine from my experiance is the most difficult. This seems down to getting a robe fabric with the correct "waffle" patten and getting prothstetics that dont look like a cow has crapped on your face :lol

still workin on 3po
quite the challenge

IMO I would say clone is one of the most difficult costumes to put together. All the parts need to have enough bondo applied to be seamless and avoid stress cracks. Not to mention all the painting and weathering work.
Just finished mine and put about 600 hours into it.

FETT is very hard when you factor in a screen accurate paintjob...getting every scratch takes months and months. I have been working on my Fett for 5 years and finally have one I am proud of.

All of them are time consuming depending on the level of accuracy you go for.
I'd say that Chewie is a difficult one to pull off though, not sure why but hardly anyone ever seems to get the face right, see quite a lot of nice Wookie costumes but they ain't Chewie.
Only seen one maybe two that i think actually look like Chewie and not just a generic Wookie.

Especially when you are making one of the commanders, with all of their accessories. Luckily, by now, quality items are available to buy from reputable makers.

There are also some of Padmé's dresses that require a whole lot of work: an embroidered corset, twenty layers of flower petals, etc. Some handmaiden costumes are not straightforward either, and require some skill and patience.

Accurate "ESB" Boba Fett.
Due to lack of Ref. pics...:thumbsup

I waited 10yrs till I could afford and was happy the parts ppl sold were more accurate.
Also finding vintage parts like US divers buckle. a Wembley Flare gun, and all the machined metal parts..PITA
then the paintjob is time consuming...

During those 10yrs I've seen a lot of so so Fetts but I couldn't justify buying and upgrading every few years to get it up to par.
but as with everything fett new facts/things are found and offered. So a few upgrades are needed.

That is why ESB Boba is one of the hardest to make.
