Bumping one of my favorite threads!
Last week, I had an opportunity to stay with an old friend in Orlando for free. She offered me transportation, and even got me two free park hopper tickets to Disney World. I went down to help her sort through her recently deceased dad’s stuff, who was like a father to me for the last decade. Very bitter sweet, unfortunately!
Like two days prior to leaving, I remembered that I wanted to dress up. My wife and I found a vest at the Goodwill and I pulled the wool liner out of it. I already had pants that worked for two outfits, so I brought two unused shirts from our wedding. That way I could have a different outfit for each day I was there. I’ll probably modify my vest for next time and add some greeblies. I may airbrush some colors onto the pockets too.
Very happy I did this, overall. It segued into several conversations with First Order personnel, the shop keeps, and even (dump truck) Rey, who I really hit it off with and saw a few times. I’d definitely bring an outfit to wear to the park again. I also really felt like this was a courage rebuilding exercise. For the last two years I’ve suffered from panic attacks in social situations. Before that, I was always the center of attention and very out going. This helped capture a glimmer that it was still in me…
