I would totally purchase one of these.

I could see it now:
Me-"Hi, may I help you with your beverage ma'am?"
Hot chick- "Why yes, thank you"
Me- "No problem"
Hot chick- "My, what a sharp tool you have. You must get a lot of attention with that...if you know what I mean"
Me- "Oh yeah... all the chicks like my blade."
Hot chick- "Well, you could help me with my beverages anytime"
Me- * (y) ;) * "You know it baby"

...and than I awake from the dream.
hmm....don't know, Reyals. With a fine looking blade like that, there
may be a greater chance of having the above play out in real life
waking hours than you may think. Count me in for one as well!

Damn. I want one o_O

Gotcha ladies! This is still in the works folks. My next step is to make a prototype out of sintra and make sure the scale and design is going to work. I'll probably have sintra mock up finished in a couple days. The last thing I want to do is a run of non working bottle openers. LOL

Still in the works.. making a list and checking it twice. (y)

Waiting for parts and materials.. I decided to reillustrate the Weyland Yatuni logo to make a sticker for my laptop and other electronic devices around the house. I'm sure there is someone already selling them somewhere on the interwebs (haven't really looked) so I probably won't do a run of them.

Any who..There are lots of Vector files of it out there but each one is different slightly and there aren't my files or illustrations to print. (y) . I still need to thicken up the "BUILDING BETTER WORLDS" part because at the size I want it it will hard as hell to weed out.

I used a couple helvetica fonts for the wording and pen tooled out the WY logo. Kudos to the original designer of the Weyland Yatuni Logo . It's a great design! It was a honor to replicate it.

Nothing really mind blowing this post.. Just keeping busy.. :)

lasercutting is the other technology that I forgot to mention that would be able to cut these.

Were you getting quotes from just your local places or were you looking at mail order too?

Thanks for the info man, I haven't looked in to laser cutting them yet. Google I must.

I'm exploring all manufacturing possiblities to find the cheapest price for a small run.

Did you mill uratz bday gift out of aluminum? If so could you cut these? I'd love to pass the final design over to you if you think you could make it happen.

LOL. I like version 2.2 it looks most likely to be in a drawer in a Predators kitchen. :D

Thank you kind sir! Counted in! Lol

Yes, that was aluminum. I could come really close to making this how it's drawn but I don't think milling is the best way to make these. Part of the limiting issue is bit diameter; it can only cut inside corners as small as the cutting bit (effectively, the kerf). The V-bits give it an allusion of an inside corner by ramping out of the corner. The laser, waterjet and even plasma cut virtually straight through the material and minimal kerf. This will reproduce good inside corners of this design. With a mill there is a trade off of end mill size and detail. With the URATZ plaque I used three end mills, a V-bit a 1/16” end mill and a 1/8” end mill. The steps add up and sometimes it's also better to do hand finishing like the holes in the zipper pulls were drill by a drill press but the center hole was done within the skull design. Needless to say there are man way to come up with similar results, you just have to be aware of your choices.

Thank you for the wealth of info in that post! I'm starting to understand the milling process and what all goes into producing beautiful pieces like the URATZ plaque alot better. One reason I'm leaning towards my local plasma cutting guy is, I have a good chance of getting a mock up copy of one at little to no cost and a better chance at a small run. That way I could properly test the material thickness, strength and design before a run.

This is something I've been working on. No offense but I can't stand Don's design and layout. I like the one at the top of the forum better. I've messaged Art a couple of times on the subject of lair decals and shirts and never got a response. Sooooo I went ahead reillustrated the logo using the site header as a guide. I think it's Badass... should I make a list? lol

Edit: Following the right channels on this one. Waiting on a green light. (y)

Looks great if they give you the green im the first one to get it, medium size. :)

Thanks Jose! If I get the green light, I'll put up a lair shirt sales thread in the marketplace with all of the details. If I get time tomorrow, I will make a demo shirt for myself to show everyone :)

looks great!!!!! I hope you get the green light.

Thanks Bo'Skarr! The Lair did most of the design work, I just replicated a already awesome logo(kudos to the original designer) and layed it out on shirt.

Art and I are talking about me doing a run. I hoping that I can do some vehicle decals too. The shop, I graphic design for, has everything I need to outfit the lair with some kickass swag (shirts, koozies, decals, banners, etc.) I'm ready to pull the trigger on the shirts, I just need to work out the details and get the "fire at will" from the General (Art).

I want the lair to make money off of the merchandising some how (either by licensing fees or $x amount per shirt). It would help maintain the site, possibly fund more contests in the future (no I will not be participating in said future contests lol ) and other great Lair stuff. These are some the things that are still needed to be worked out.

Shirts like this is everyday work for me and I'm tired of making family reunion shirts I want to make kickass lair shirts. :)

The Demo Shirt I made for myself came out great. Pics have been sent to Art and Jason to check out. After we discuss the details further I'll post pics of the Demo shirt (y)

Just a note: All shirts I make look proportionate and yes I press each one. Each size shirt has it own graphic scaling front and back. I do that so, if you get a XXL, the graphic on the back and front doesn't look too small and odd and vise vera If you get a Small shirt the graphic doesn't land under your pits or swallow you whole. Other shirt makers don't really give a **** about it, but I do....I do. :)

Hang tight guys and gals. (y)
