Qc ssr at-st

you know richard...i feel the same way.
however, i think i may tell myself that because my painting will definitely pale to julien's paint job and i'm a bit intimidated to take that final step.

Wow, this is coming on great!. Your pics are very informative on how this baby comes together. I'm glad your'e still plugging away at this dude and I'm sure your paint will turn out just fine.

Nah Q, I was thinking she was cool unpainted, but she's even cooler once painted ! If you take your time, there's no reason you can get a very nice paintjob. I used some of my countless ship hulls to practice and see how I could get the desired effect, hue etc...

Looking very nice, Q. Lots of great ideas, too, for other builders to leverage! Don't worry about painting. I'm the first to admit that, not only do I suck at painting, I don't even particularly enjoy it, LOL. On second thought, considering how many Karl cranes I went through to work out the upper thigh, maybe painting is my strong suit... :confused

Looking good so far! I may have to try my hand at one of these some day!

Oh, small world isn't it?:cool

geez, almost a years since the last post. thats nuts.
but i haven't been idle
(i've make an effort in others who are building these, by denoting what size material i'm using and providing pix that may aid in installing of certain pieces).

A thing of beauty Quincy, all the effort has been worth it, probably the nicest walker build ive seen.

very very kind fellas.
wouldn't say its the "nicest"....just my interpretation.

guess this can be said about any model, but its quite interesting ...the nuances we all interpret/execute differently. and my interpretations are highly derived from lee/allan/jason's builds. and when i went off course, it was usually away from the studio model and towards a direction that i liked better aesthetically.

as for the engineering? less about being "perfect" and more about me being scared s**tless in screwing something up. i felt most of my time was spent doing math and ref'g everyone else's build -- just thought i'd try to help others and show what dimensions i used (not that they are necessarily correct, lol). hopefully this may spur other builds??

Wow, man! What a clean build! I like the extra steps in mounting all the parts! I'm still taking notes.

Joe

lot of my mounting approaches try to tackle problems with allignment (you can adjust magnet connections...but not so much once glued) along with painting (there's lots of sweet undercuts through out this build).

Q mate, having just looked at this and seeing Lees build last night again its kinda made me want to sell the one good lung I have and have a crack at it. I think I'd have to scratch a static armature but it is seriously growing on me now as a build.

Great work mate and what a cool base.

Whats the point..
drug Lee and take his!!....you can spend your time on better things!

another option -- i know there are WAY more armatures out there that are gathering dust. perhaps you can sweet talk somebody?

Seriously though, drawings are available for the armature if you want to go that route (happy to send your way). Can help you with the hardware and such too if needed.

Great work mate and what a cool base.

as for the base....whole model is fairly top heavy so i had to have a base i could depend on. its laminated MDF, tapered plaster, then skinned with plasti sheet. is about 20 lb. way heavier than i expected. much like gene and jason's Needa TIE, i tried to stay in the spirit (using "canon" donor kits) and also harken familiarity (should look a little like a Hoth turret -- but not a literal translation).

the thin MDF disk the feet are mounted too will be a snow/drift landscape.

it all may be a bit (visually) busy once i'm done....but FK it, i'm only making this kit once!

Looks very beautiful. And the stand, man I love that stand.

thanks, more pix of it all on my fotki-album. wasn't sure if others would like or hate the stand. the "sliding" doors are also magnet-attached so i can paint/weather inside later.

the upper snow disk platform is also just sitting in 4" deep holes in the lower base (via long thread all). will aid in painting and disassembly for moving.
