Not proud...feel like I should be a little further....but here's what little process I've gotten so far.
I'm working from the ends towards the middle (ie, on the feet and head).
I have to work on the feet first 'cause I think I'll be doing a dynamic pose on a snow drifted plain. I intend on having one foot bearing on its ball/toe. Also want to make the whole model easy for transport, so this will include details for simple erection and tear down. The head probably has the longest lead time because I want a vac'd head. I cut one shell to cast a buck ..but when I started to look at reference material it didn't add up. The template may be dead nuts and my math may be off...not sure yet, so at a bit of a stand still. In the mean time I'm working on the triad of guns on the boy's head and just cleaning/prepping all the donor kit pieces. Comments are always welcome.

Man, its like waiting for a train, non for hours, and then they all come at once lol, thanks for sharing Q, cant wait to see it all taking full form.
Oh, and about 20 mins ago, i had a very nice man drop me off some spring steel, awesome, thanks so much for that bud, it will be fitted this weekend :love

Nice Quincy. Theres no rush & you have alot to be proud of. I'll be watching this build with the rest. Keep it up. Thanks for the plans too Quincy. very kind & generous. Hope I can get some made for a reasonable price.

Looking good...and keep looking! (for those pesky parts that haven't been found yet)

Quincy really did a fantastic service to the community by taking on a new (and much improved) run of the at-st armature. Hat's off to ya!

Re: QC - AT-ST, ver ESB

I've been quiet but slowly working.
Splitting my time between the head and the feet. I have 1/2 of the foot put together and looking good (without being fully complete).
I believe my bigger work is on the head. I am fully committed on going the vacuum formed head route. Took the patterns provided by the first allan, lee, julien, et al and made pattern, then made a plaster tool. This was then vacuformed by a professional. I got one good pull but the tool didn't make the journey afterwards.

It hurt to see my hard work (the tool) destroyed, however after seeing the result, i know (even more) that i want these vac' heads. I'm going full bore and making a new round of tools made of resin that will be durable enough to make as many pulls as I want.

Anyone interested in these pulls should visit the junkyard:

It's shaping up great, Quincy. Most folks are quite intimidated by that chin gun. I know I used more than a few expletives during the several I've built. :lol

thanks jason.
picture really doesn't show it that well, but i really chamfered the edges pretty sharp. def not canon, but think it gives it a bit more aggressive look. would have loved to have done more of the chamfer actually.

It's ALIVE!! Looking good, Q. Yeah, it's a pain attaching that gun. Feels like you're lining up for a dart throw, tbh, trying to get the barrels oriented level.

true A,
i think my jig to set up the attaching of the main gun to the 88mm bracket was almost as elaborate as the gun itself...lol. just wanted to make sure it was straight and level. suppose when i finally attach it to the head itself, flaws will be revealed?

trying to make a little progress everynight, even if its 15 minutes each night.
here's where i am as of late.

put some of the head plate/boundary pieces together:

P1010153-vi.jpg

i'm using plenty of magnet removable plates with alignment pins in order to take this guy apart should i travel with it. it will also help in painting it since there are several undercuts.
word to the wise for others building this kit.. don't cut your (rear head plate) kv-1 until you've got your side/front/top head shell where you want it. i prematurely cut my first tank up think'g i knew how it should be cut, but after my main head shell had a differing opinion about the matter.

also working on the two cheek guns:

P1000811-vi.jpg

P1010158-vi.jpg

i worried that early setting of the guns in the cheek hemispheres would be pointing at the wrong angle when i finally get everything else set, so i wanted an adjustable system. i employed the smallest wave ball joints i could find in my scraps and installed them where i could hide them. both are nice and stiff joints and should take any fine adjusting of angles after the whole kit is fully assembled.

The right side "Tyrrell gattler" should attach direct to the Bandai Panther trans housing shouldnt it?

lee

you're totally right lee (tyrrell to panther). however, with my use of the wave ball joints it will have to set off a bit, in order to allow swiveling movement. its sitting out there way further than looks "canon" and looks funny for sure.

i'm going to try to carefully trim a little more so the gun gets closer to the head, but i'm a little nervous due to how the rod sticking out of the ball joint is carrying the mini-collar i attached to the gun.

What's studio scale modeling without a little mortal danger to plastic and limb, though, am I right?

:-D
