Oota goota, Scott revealed it wasn't the same planet quite a long time ago. What you describe would be the kind of direct prequel that they announced, well, a couple of years ago? that they weren't making.

It's pretty obvious the script did start out as one, though.

I'm convinced the Meredith Vickers we see is an android, more advanced than the David model in the same way that certain characters in Blade Runner are advanced replicants, and that we'll see the real Vickers in the next movie. The real Vickers programmed this android but it's got a bit of the android crazy going on.

EPIC! Loved it! Ridley Scott should do Terminator! Not a wasted moment in this film. I found the music occasionally distracting and the only minute flaw to the film.

Just got back.

What we have here.. is failure to maintain one's expectations. Those of you who didn't like it (and I am NOT one of you) obviously wanted this movie to be something very very different, be it another Blade Runner or another Alien, or another anything for that matter.

That's the problem.. it was never going to be "another" anything. It was something new.

What you ended up with was something very different from your expectations, and so you do the only thing you know how.. lash out at how much of a hack Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelhof are.

I loved it. It was exactly what I was hoping it would be. I wanted this film to explore the mythology behind Alien, and by God, that's what it did. Yeah, there's a lot of unanswered questions, as well there should be. How can you go on and on about how great the "mystery" and unanswered questions are in the original film, and then complain that this one was too much of a mystery and left too many unanswered questions? Make up your mind.. do you want the answers, or don't you?

Yeah, a lot of my initial predictions and theories were wrong, but what we got was just as good. I loved it, start to finish.

So I have to ask, to those "disappointed" souls. What was it you wanted the film to be? And don't use the word "another" when answering.

Jedi - to be fair, those expectations were set up by Scott himself by reminding us he was going back to expand the story behind the space jockey.

I don't think it unreasonable for people to have a certain expectation of tone, inventiveness and tightly crafted cinema in all areas when he's harkening back to and dipping back in to such a classic.

I think a lot of people want more Alien. They want more GOOD Alien movies . . . BAD. I don't blame them, so do I. But after Scott explained what this movie wasn't, I left my mind open to what it is. I'm so glad I did.

Prometheus was not claustrophobic or particularly tense and scary. It was not designed to jar you into fear or present a shockingly disturbing creature that will give you nightmares. It was all about creation, and destruction, and what it means to be alive.

I think it's impossible for many fans to get over Alien when they watch Prometheus. And some folks just don't like the space jockey being defined, and literally given a face.

I had no expectations as I had only watched one trailer one time. Plus the chance of recapturing whatever made Alien so great is utter nonsense, I would never even expect that anyway.

What I do expect is that I don't get a movie with no ending because they want me to go see the sequel and are trying to restart a franchise.

There is no satisfying ending to the film or story, like The Empire Strikes Back.

Don't forsake a good ending to part one in the need for a sequel.

I thought the ending was quite satisfying. The surviving characters have been utterly changed by the experiences of the movie and the story of a science team landing on an alien world is told.

I think a lot of people like myself are prepared to look past their disappointment at the failure to satisfyingly connect on an Alien level - it's the disappointment on a movie making level that persists. It has it's merits but I think it was Nwerke that summed it up well by saying it's flawed but not a flawed masterpiece - by any stretch.

Just got back from seeing it and I thought it was terrific. Yes, a lot of the characters were very poorly written and the dialogue was often very weak, but I got into the story. I can see where this is headed and found they entire experience very satisfying and exciting. Yes, the film lacked suspense and it could have easily done a better job with that but once things got moving I thought the pacing was great and it was visually stunning. I'll give it an A-/B+.

I think the film was easily a masterpiece of the 3D medium. I didn't have any disappointment on a movie making level. On any level. It's a flawed film, sure, but it did not disappoint me.

I thought so too. I walked out of the theater feeling a lot like how I felt after Blade Runner. BR is my favorite film, so obviously I tend to enjoy films that let me fill in the blanks and make up my own mind about aspects of the story I was told.

Even with all the blood splattering moments and that really awkward surgery scene, this film still felt like it was a PG-13 movie at heart. Profanity for instance follows the PG-13 guidelines by having only one F-word in the whole film while not being used to refer to a sexual act. I was almost concerned that I was watching the PG-13 cut of the film when that one f bomb was muffled by static.

Still, Space Jockeys R us, and I don't like that.

Visually it was great and I enjoyed it kind of, but I was taken out of it by the pacing and editing.

Too many events that were just "oh well no biggie", time to move on to the next scene. That and some major plot holes. Since David Lindelof was involved I guess should have expected that.

Exactly how did all the earth cultures know of the bio weapons planet location??:facepalm

If there are any engineers left and they wanted earth wiped out why not just go back to the bio weapons planet grab a ship, seems there are plenty just laying around and fly to earth?

What was the point of the engineer going after Shaw? Why not just walk to the next ship take off and then go to earth?

I was entertained somewhat but after I am kind of like what the....

Not sure if I will see it again.
