Production Used Jaws Clapperboard?

From the description:

I can't really comment much on the color, as lighting and photography makes a huge difference. It doesn't appear to have the same sheen that it did on screen, but I don't know enough about how the foam rubber was painted to know if it wears off easy, or what.

They do call out the belt as being from a different suit, but seem to have missed doing so on the gauntlets. As a curious side note, I've heard that the Loony Tunes suit used the "Panther" belt, and a black version of the Sonar Suit was used by Christopher Nolan to audition actors for Batman Begins. So it looks like you could be right!

Have you emailed the Prop Store?
I just recently sold a suit I had. The suit they have is black other than maybe the cowl. The belt and gloves really give it away. If it was gray they would stand out considerably in comparison.
At best it was production made or the Looney Tunes suit. But not used in Batman Forever.
There isn't a need to contact them because they never state it was used in the film. They just say it is a display. Nothing about Kilmer ever wearing it.
My post above is not entirely fair. After I reread the listing I can see I more or less am wrong. They never state it was used.

Here is my screen used cape next to an unpainted Robin torso. Obvious color difference

Guys, this is a thread discussing the jaws Clapboard. If you want to discuss the Batman suit, please take it to its own new thread and let’s not take this one off track.

I really wish this site offered a translation button.

Well… I just used Google translate and it is spam advertising for Viagra. Reported!

Has there been a decision about whether this is real or a fake?
Current bid is $25k.

HI, well I wrote Brian Chames an email on last friday, explaining all and with screencaptures of my conversations with Bill Butlers wife.

He did answered it, asking me for my phone number to discuss the issue. But, still has not ring.

So, at least he is aware of all of this. Other thing is if they are gonna do something, or if they have time to do it or somehow react.

Conveniently leaves it up for auction while waiting to call you. I bet after it reached a certain amount, they “forgot” to call and discuss it.

In my opinion, not having actually laid hands on it, is that it's fake. I think the story is fake, the provenance is fake, any and any letters associated with it are fake.

This is the sentence that gets me, from the description:
These facts were recently corroborated with direct communication with Mr. Butler and family, and it was further established that this clapperboard was also on display at a temporary Smithsonian exhibit in addition to the aforementioned Jaws festivals.

Direct communication? That directly contradicts Indignate's story. I'd be very curious to find out exactly who Heritage spoke to. Not too sound too conspiracy minded, I suspect they never actually spoke to anyone. As far as the Smithsonian and Jaws festivals, I can't find any proof of either.

I know that auction houses don't usually reveal the names or identities of their consignors, but I'd be very curious to see what other items this person has consigned. I suspect there are other items that they've consigned that are equally suspect, some that we haven't caught.

What sort of overwhelming evidence do they need to actually pull it?

At a glance, these are the items I find troublesome. Not necessarily fake, but questionable.

Alan Hale Jr. Skipper Hat - Looks like a patch, unlike the bullion anchors in the photos.
Cindy Williams "Shirley Feeney" Cold Weather Army Field Coat from Laverne & Shirley - Doesn't match screencaps.
Carroll O'Connor "Archie Bunker" Hat - Doesn't match screencaps., or any readily available photos.
Robert Patrick "T-1000" Bullet-Hit Riddled Police Shirt from Terminator 2: Judgment Day - Doesn't match screencaps.
Steve McQueen "Jake Holman" Blue Navy Jumper from The Sand Pebbles - Doesn't match screencaps.
Bruce Lee "Lee" Hero Nunchaku from Enter the Dragon - Doesn't match screencaps, or, best I can tell, anything that Lee used in the film.
Robert Shaw "Quint" Hero Machete from Jaws - - Doesn't match screencaps.
Dustin Hoffman "Louis Dega" Devil's Island Prisoner Costume from Papillon - Nothing lines up, at all.
Flintlock Pistol Prop Signed by Director Ridley Scott from The Duellists - Doesn't match screencaps.
Rydell High "T-Birds" Mechanic Coveralls from Grease - Doesn't match screencaps.
Tom Cruise "Lt. Maverick" Signature Flight Suit from Top Gun - Been discussed somewhere on here, matches modern patches, not the movie.
Tom Hanks "Chuck Noland" Hero "Wilson" Volleyball Prop from Cast Away (DreamWorks, 2000) - Doesn't appear to be a Hero prop, happy to be wrong.

So that's where I'm at. I don't think these are all spurious (not all, anyway), just that they need more documentation or verification to prove their authenticity.

I do know that for years Alan Hale Jr. ordered tons of skipper caps and would give them away to kids off of his head, so there are perhaps many people thinking they have an ‘authentic’ skipper cap.

That said, which was just for fun, it is amazing how many HA items can be google-fu’d and discredited in thirty seconds.

Just goes to show you that they probably don’t do any research for themselves. They most likely just take the word of the person consigning it and take COAs or LOAs at face value and don’t dig into them. This is just sad, so many people losing money by purchasing this stuff. Too bad there couldn’t be an investigation into these items, as well as previous items they have sold, by a reputable source. I mean, this could legally be considered fraud, so maybe the FBI could be that source.

The Shawshank Rock Hammer seems suspicious to me as well. It doesn't match screencaps. From the screencaps I was able to obtain from my 4K version of the film, the wood grain on the handle does not match. I've heard that three rock hammers were used in the film, however no rusted rock hammer is ever used in the film as far as I can tell. I also doubt this rust is a result of time, as the COA I saw was dated from 1999 and includes a photo where the item looks the same. Another rock hammer was sold years back which had no rust. I also saw the prop master's order sheet that is included with it, and it references the prop as being used in a scene that doesn't exist in the shooting script.

Also, that machete was consigned by the same person who consigned the Jaws clapperboard. I saw the COA letter, and it mentions both items.

I went back and forth with the Shawshank hammer. At a quick glance, it appears to be of a similar type that was used on the film, and it's not a common type of rock hammer. The vast majority of hammers have all wood handles, and this one is an odd type of scale tang/haft hybrid. The rust is odd, and awfully even.

I'm not really familiar enough with the props from that movie to be able to make a call on it's screen use.

It looks very close, I agree. However It is a very easy thing to make a copy of:

I've heard they used three of these hammers in the movie. There is no photo showing rust on this hammer ever in the film, even when it is found in the stream right after he escapes. You would assume this would be the most worn/oldest version. Attached is a close up from that scene in 4K. You can clearly see no rust on the side of the rock hammer.

The COA is from 1999, and the photograph looks the same. You don't get rust like that naturally over a few years.

That Shawshank rock hammer is absolutely 100% one of mine. I have several "tells" that I can pick out.

The one in the Etsy link is also me :)
You really need to alert Heritage Auctions. The amount of fakes in this latest auction is staggering and scary. I can accept one item slipping through the cracks of an auction house, but when you are supposed to be a reputable establishment, this is downright either poor management or fraud.

I did as soon as I saw it this morning. Thanks for the heads up! Gotta love the RPF keyword alerts!
