Prequel - Rise of the Planet of the Apes Movie

I know micdavis' head is going to explode, but I have never liked any of the 'Ape' movies.

With the exception of the first and (to a lesser extent) third entries in the series, the Apes films are by no means great movies. "Conquest" and "Battle" are damn near unwatchable. "Beneath" gets points for being so utterly over-the-top it could have been directed by Sam Peckinpah.

Thing is, the POTA series was the pre-Star Wars sci-fi film franchise, and for that reason alone it will always hold a special place in my heart. At a time when very few sci-fi/ fantasy films were being made POTA presented audiences with something fun and different.

No one has ever mistaken the "Apes" sequels for great works of cinematic art, but placed within the proper context it's easy to understand why sci-fi fans "of a certain age" find it hard to write them off.

For all its flaws there's something timeless about the original POTA.

I would have liked to see Rick Baker do some Animatronic heads and stuff for this movie, but Prosthetic Makeup however would not be appropriate for the film considering that the Apes are supposed to be the ones we know in real life, Ceasar of course is the offspring of an ape who was expiremented on, so he is naturaly differen't, So CGI is the only way to get them 100% anatomically accurate and still have alot of movement, but how well it comes off is a different story, Some shots look absolutly real, especially the hands, other shots still need refinment, and Im sure they are still doing that.

I understand why CG is used for this one, Although I still have very mixed feelings about not having some animatronics employed.

But the CG is not nearly as Bad as it could be.

This is a Rough Teaser for my POTA Fan Film, it's made up of test footage, now this is a genuine CG Crapfest

I must just be in that minority that would rather see a real than CGI.
I much prefer practical makeups as well, but I don't mind CGI if it's done well (Davy Jones in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, for example). So far I haven't seen any clips from this movie that were completely convincing to me.

Oh yeah, well Boba Fett is over rated.

:lol :thumbsup +1

boba would have been cooler if he looked like this

I figure that the future sequels may have people in makeup as the apes evolve more but there is no way to get thousands of real apes to behave long enough to do the scenes in this one sadly.

I'm like Art I hated the original, and frankly I think that's why I detest time travel movies/stories ever since.

I'm not so hot on this one ether, looks like it could wind up an enviro/PC/animal rights brainwashing session :sick I understand we have to do better by our world but there's a certain point when you need to check if your head has let your brain slip out!

If we get humanity starts on a destructive path of war and pestilence and while we downgrade the apes upgrade-fine,cool could be a good show.

Otherwise-naw I'll pass.
