One of the original screen-used Medal of Yavin props is going to be going up for auction at Propstore in March. I'm looking forward to the full auction listing photos when the entire catalogue goes live. Hopefully some more details about the attachment method for the ribbon will be revealed. Here are the preview photos and teaser write up:

Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) Medal of Yavin from Star Wars: A New Hope (1977)
One of our standout lots in this year’s auction is our Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) Medal of Yavin from Star Wars: A New Hope (1977). An incredibly significant Star Wars prop, Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) screen-matched Medal of Yavin from A New Hope (1977) is a symbol of the Rebel Alliance’s victory over the Empire. Presented by Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) in the film’s iconic finale, this medal appears in one of cinema’s most memorable moments, set to John Williams’ The Throne Room march. Only two medals are believed to have been made for the film; this medal was seen worn by Hamill in the film itself, but was also worn by Harrison Ford in behind-the-scenes photos taken during rehearsals. The first and only medal to be offered for public sale, it originates from the collection of Gerard Bourke, who worked on the original Star Wars films. This rare hero prop is estimated between $300,000 and $600,000 and is expected to be one of the auction’s most sought-after lots.

Really excited to hopefully get reference of the ribbon attachment as well. Also removing the casting “tell” in my lineage cast.

I posted this in a facebook group just a few minutes ago, but matches up really well with the thread pattern and width of the British military tie. Color is close too, but the real one has definitely been either weathered or has faded somehow

Looks to me like the Tie has the threads going in one direction rather than the crosses on the original, but that could be the pictures.

Think it was just the picture I took. Here’s a better close up of the stitching on the tie, it has that same alternating \ / \ / \ / pattern in it as the original:

I have one of those castings as well. What is a "casting tell" ?
Quite a few artists, whether prop makers, model makers, etc...when copying a prop, or a model and not having the exact measurements/pics to see all of the details, tend to make sure that their work is easily recognizable by simply put a little detail (tell) into their pieces.
So, if re-casted without permission, the artist can now pinpoint to the "tell", knowing that it's his work;)

It wasn’t the one around Mark Hamill’s neck but I’m sure this will be much cheaper than the propstore one.

They were attached with screws through the ribbon onto the top of the casting and then they were sewn to cover the screw heads.

My thought there might be a thin plate or something that was screwed down that hold the ribbons in place. Becouse it looks the is no gaps in the ribbon between the screws. Besouse it looks they only used 3 screws

Here's a photo I took at the National Sci-Fi Museum in Milton Keynes in the UK. It's said that only two were made so, I guess, here's the other one... To me, the weathering looks different to the one in the Auction so I am presuming they are not one and the same?
