Predator Deal Gone Bad .... BIG UPDATE PIC HEAVEY

Re: Predator Deal Gone Bad ....

OK, now I've (sort of) stopped laughing - So long as I don't scroll up while typing this :lol

On a very serious note :

You paid money, not dog biscuits, for both the sculpt and the extra bits you sent him to make the full bust.

The overall sculpt is unacceptable. The dreadlocks are damaged, the eyes are now permanently fixed in and can't be moved etc.

If he is so confident that his work is top-notch, fine.

You should get a refund of both the sculpt, plus the cost of the extra items you sent him, send the whole lot back to him, and he should have no problem selling it if he thinks its that good.

Re: Predator Deal Gone Bad ....

I have been to many Horror convention's, where you can walk out the
door with a killer Predator head sculpt, for the money. This one is not
even close! It looks horrible!

You could try to clean it up, and refurbish it, but even then, it would be
a lot of work (kinda like polishing a turd!).

Really bad work:thumbsdown

Re: Predator Deal Gone Bad ....

Cant say banning him would be worth the effort, if i turned out work like that, id be too ashamed to even show my face on the board......which i presume is the reason he hasnt been on for days.

Re: Predator Deal Gone Bad ....

Maybe he just made a very old predator and that is why the teeth are falling out, the eyes are crossed (the very first picture I thought it had a lazy eye), and the dreads are too short.

If I made this I would be very impressed. But I'm just starting out and I've never carved anything except a small brain.

Re: Predator Deal Gone Bad ....

How's this matter going Simon ?

Well ive never heard from Bweapon again which to be honest i didnt expect to ............ so please everyone avoid.

Thankfully Ian (Frosty) has offered to have a look at it for me and see if it is fixable, if not il have to scrap it and try and live the dream another time

Ive sent this off to Ian today so hopefully over the next few days he will either give me bad news or show some cool progress Fingers crossed :)

Odd you were saving us all from him ripping us off in the future, i'm doubting his sudden story of a hard time, and what's he expect will happen to his paypal when you're doing crap like this.

Re: Predator Deal Gone Bad ....

He ruined his chances with bad communication, a bad product, and a bad attitude.

Re: Predator Deal Gone Bad ....

Time and again people with shoddy business practices and /or poor quality work shout out that they are the ones who've been victimized when they are called out.

But you know what, those folks need to be called out. If someone is being paid money for goods or a service, they should hold to the same standards as any business. The manager of a restaurant does not come out and cuss you out when you say you ordered steak not chicken. They do not give you excuses as to why you got chicken. Likewise, you should not just accept chicken without telling the waitress there seems to have been a mistake.

The only way any of this could have been your fault would have been if you had lied or exaggerated. The pics pretty much speak for themselves as to the quality.

This hobby is VERY subjective, with many people having far different ideas of quality and accuracy and what is acceptable. That's a problem in and of itself, but all the more reason for people to let others know when they're unhappy. How else can they learn? The critique should have been accepted graciously and professionally.

I have dealt with a lot of people, from really good folks to complete jerks, and if there is a problem with the item, I'll be a repeat shopper if the person makes amends. As for the jerks, you can believe not only will I not be coming back, but A LOT of people (i.e. potential customers) are going to be hearing about my experience.

The jerks are all too often short sighted and don't see the big picture and the fact that anything they do can affect future sales.

Is there anything you can or should do for the guy now? No!

Re: Predator Deal Gone Bad ....

This might be a dumb question, but did you see any examples of his work, especially sculpting Predators, before commissioning him? Even a beginning artist should have samples so you know what level of talent you're dealing with. If he showed you samples that looked good, I'd have to question where the photos came from.

On the Hunters Lair he had some awsome pictures of his work and on ebay his feedback was pretty good too, however it was the Ebay auctions that got me quite worried.

Give me a break, that is your problem HOW exactly?

This guy is a loser and the fact that he is in this situation in the first place means he was spending more time smoking weed than working on his commissions.

Re: Predator Deal Gone Bad ....

As someone who used to make costumes for sale, I can say that I understand what the seller is going through. It is really tough to make and sell stuff and stay on deadline. That being said, it is in no way your obligation to help this person fulfill his dreams. In fact, if he were to continue on this track and have people feel sorry for him and help him out, it will become a crutch.

If someone wants to make a living at this, they need to keep their day job and do props as a side hobby until they build a good work ethic and reputation. From what I have read, this guy needs to hit rock bottom, then get a menial job to get him back on his feet and then start from scratch again. Until he gets himself right in life, prop making alone to make money will only serve to get him deeper in the red. Materials are costly and no one should be trying to get a home business off the ground when so deep in debt and hoping to "make it big" in the business with an awesome portfolio is a pipe dream for someone with such poor attention to detail.

Presumptuous much? It could be one of many things but I think calling the guy a druggie with no proof is a bit irresponsible.

I think finances were the main problem here. Because of how he used funds for project B to pay for project A, he was in no position to offer a refund. If he could have given Supa a refund he might have been able to sell the bust to someone who was interested in it for zero profit or maybe a small loss. Would we be talking about this if the story was, "I bought this bust but it took way to long too make and looked bad so the guy gave me a refund"?

I also agree with doing this part time. Right now I think I would like to do this full time, but I'm just starting out and even then I do not know if it would pay as well as what I do now. Especially since I have benefits like insurance and a 401(k)

Re: Predator Deal Gone Bad ....

If someone wants to do this for a living then they need to be good at what they do.
A cross eyed, short dreddlocked pred with dirty dredds and flaking paint is not a good way to get further business.
If that is what he can turn out then prop building is not his thing as a profession. This is without all of the apparent cash flow problems.
