Picard S2

Hey I am all in for giving John a paycheck just not for this trash.

Do not want to spoil anything, but this is not the Trek you fell in love with, and neither are the Characters
To be fair... kirk and Spock OG were my ST heroes..and even Some of the later movies could be hit and miss. I enjoyed NGT and DS9 but thats where it ended until Picard, I'm happy to see old faces..

I have always been a fan of all things Trek. Some less than others but I have to admit I had to force myself to keep watching S1 and am not terribly enthused about going through it again this season.

Same with Discovery. Havent even started watching the current season yet. Only Trek I look forward to watching right now is Prodigy.

Hopeful words from Doug Drexler:

>>There is so much good stuff coming up on Picard (although I think the show REALLY reaches critical mass in season 3). Stuff that will knock you out. I've seen eps 1 and 2 from season 2, and it's a different tone than season 1. It's more familiar. Wait til you actually get to see this new bridge. Gorgeous... and all the graphics look like they are telling you something important, not just "sci fi" by someone who is not partial to Star Trek, and definitely not a science geek.

and

>>I wasn't partial to season 1 of Picard, but many people enjoyed it. I think season 2 and 3 return to a more familiar tone.

I only think of one famous quote when it comes to the makers of the current slate of shows with Star Trek in the title….

Seriously, Prodigy is the only show of the new stuff that is close to the spirit of Trek.

It was alright. A lot of clumsy exposition to paper over the time jump, but the general setting and the roles of the characters is about what I want from a TNG follow-up. I enjoyed the focus on aging, time, and regret, which felt like a natural topic for these characters at this point in their lives; and by focusing that talk on romance specifically it found a fresh angle that avoided the trap of feeling like it's doing the TOS movies, part 2. (Looking at you, ST: Nemesis.)

That being said, it still felt a little...disjointed. We have the Borg again, Gunian, Q, alternate timelines, playing catch -up with all the S1 characters, and of course the implication of another damn Mystery Box (TM) which I am beyond sick of. Can't they just tell a story any more?

What I'm most depressed about is how it looks like the season shot its wad, budget wise, on this first episode. I'm not looking forward to seeing them traipse around 21st century Los Angeles for the rest of it, like it's a mid-season episode of Voyager. Or, if that's not what thee rest of the season is going to be, that's what the trailers sure promised.

I'm also wary because I really liked the Picard series premiere, and the season that followed blew every single thread and story idea set up in it. I have very low confidence, after Picard S1 and three full seasons of Discovery, that they won't blow it here, too.

I’ll have to check it out later today. Are they running it the same time as Discovery? I thought they only did one at a time.

Saw the first couple of episodes last night at the Paramount+ virtual premiere. Show is a lot of fun, and deep easter eggs throughout each of the episodes i got to see.

if anything, the series works as a warm blanket of nostalgia to enjoy (weather the storyline works out).

I caved and watched.
Has potential, will watch ep 2.
I didn't read spoilers but I saw enough first sentences of fb posts and article titles that were really glowing. It didn't live up to THAT. But so far better than S1.

Crankin up the Projector tonight for that Cinematic feel.

Just need that Popcorn a popping!

He's a biological synth, built to exactly duplicate human biology, including aging.
Well, they certainly have come a long way in only a couple of decades, considering they were unable to duplicate Data during the next generation.

All that aside, and he is a golem, as stated in season 1, I didn’t hate this episode. It was a good start.

Fun fact: The title sequence of the Season 2 opener of Star Trek Picard lists out 3 Co-Producers, 2 Producers, 1 Consulting Producer, 3 Supervising Producers, 1 Co-Executive Producer and a whopping 11 Executive Producers. The various Producer credits (21 in total!) take up almost 1 minute out of the 1 and a half minute title sequence.

So…do people, including “Q”, acknowledge that Picard is dead and that they are only interacting with a synthetic facsimile?

(Man, the broader metaphor of a series led by a synthetic facsimile of a dead classic character works on so many levels regarding Kurtzman Trek)
