Re: Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM We

Thanks! I appreciate that! I look at so many threads that I have started a log book of concepts and innovations, but some of the earlier ones I saw have been lost! Noted!!!
My thanks!

I thought you uploaded a video of your faceplate lol

Looking good there

Im not gonna work on my war machine until i teach myself to work with arduino, i bought an arduino uno and some servos, gonna try a faceplate mechanism, but first im gonna work with leds so i can understand better the arduino
Keep up the build bro

My thoughts are that my time is better served building my armor and leaving the specialty electronics to our resident expert Ryan, aka TheRealStark. The time, trial and error and development, plus the cost of materials per my estimation make it cheaper to just buy the ready to use products he makes. Just my time itself is worth that cost if you want the truth. I have no hesitation about adding specialty items to my armor, like bigturks bolt set, or helmets by surreal or masked rider, but I will always give credit to those who supply these items or ideas. I still have pride that I'm building the majority of my suit, but admit that my time, limited as it is, is better spent at what I am good at. It would take too long to make a helmet plug I'm happy with or electronics that work properly. Good luck too you in your electronics endeavor, but hope the length of time you have to spend will be worth it. I am learning coding so that I can mod it later if I have too, but Ryan has been more than helpful with any mods I needed or code I needed changed. It takes so long to build a suit. I am over one year in now and anything I can do to facilitate getting done is a blessing.

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Awesome build thread!

For anyone wanting to make a War Machine cannon that moves from side to side I'd try using a low profile linear slide instead of a drawer slide. Igus makes some super low profile aluminum slides that are very low friction.
igus® - DryLin® N Linear Slides: Overview

Bolt one of those to a small section of 80/20 aluminum extrusion and you'll have a very rigid light weight setup that is easy to mount. To make it move from side to side use a continuous rotation servo with a nylon gear rack- cheap and durable and easy to interface. A multi turn sail winch servo would be a good choice as it would have enough power to move that heavy cannon around.

The problem that I see with most of these costumes isn't electronics- it's mechanics. The electronic stuff is really pretty straightforward.

Thanks bro,
I know what you mean, but its a challenge for me and i cant continue without tryinig, if i cant do it, and i feel like i will never succeed then for sure ill buy the mechanism but at. Least i want to make a led fade lol, and im gonna continue working on the armor, but not gonna finish the suit intil i try this, good luck to you too :)

Thanks for weighing in Honus and for the compliment, that means alot to me!! I also appreciate the input. If the set I bought prove problematic I will switch. The rails I bought are happily- accidentally very similar to these and glide very freely! I had actually thought about the R/C sailboat servo as my winch mechanism, but hadn't gotten around to researching that yet! if you dont mind, I will PM you with some questions as I go through the process!!

Your Predator shoulder gun with head tracking is truly inspirational!!

HOLY HONUS!!! Well put, sir. I just responded to electraflier via PM after he mentioned you, and I guess I wasn't sure who he was talking about until now. And you nailed it on the head with mechanics, torque gets big quick on things like this (good call on the sail winch servo)

I swear ya just whisper Honus's name and he appears better than a Genie lol!!!! Honus has been th' resident animatronic expert since I joined this forum and he's willin' ta share his knowledge and experience freely you should definitely checkout his costume animatronic tutorial on instructables you can also download his codes written for particular costumes includin' War Machine :D:thumbup:

You arent kidding! I am amazed at the motion and beauty of his builds! I have always loved Anubis and Horus from the StarGate movie and his rendering is outstanding!
I am sure I can accomplish what I want too with this build. I am relieved I have resources like Genie Honus!:love

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

So in honor of my 600th post!!!! I am back on it today!!! I am off to the motorcycle shop as I think using MotoCross motorcycle armor under the suit for the legs/knees and the arms/elbows might be a great support structure to use in holding up and in position the legs and arms of the War Machine! Might be too hot, but looking never hurt lol
I found a set that has hinged pivot points at the knees and elbows so I might be able to mod them. Looking into the motorcycle boots as well to Bolt the shins onto....just thinking..
I also am still going back and forth with X-robots aluminum and strap under structure...
TTFN off to play with my armor! Yeajhhhh! ABFT*

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

i think having all the padding might limit your movement..i stick my legs through and at some point i have to angle my foot to get it in...but I'm just saying i haven't attached mine together with thighs so i don't know..good luck my friend

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

So at long last I have a success!! A matched set of shoulder bells under primer!!

Now I just need to finish the shoulder flare launchers and that armor strap dongle that runs across the bottom edge to have them ready to mount to my under structure!

I found some absolutely perfect heavy springs and some copper tubing to run down the tracks and it looks very wicked with those in that track!!

Oh lord I wish I was more like Master Matt aka Surreal :ninja and could wait to post till I had it all down LOL. Here are a few test pictures of my armor.. It is not mounted on the understructure yet and you can see my Duct Tape, but you'll get the idea!:behave

I am pleased with the scale of the shoulder and know that when mounted and over the bicep armor they should really look proportionate.. My thanks to David aka Propnoob76 for the help scaling the armor!!

The shoulders really needed a wad of padding underneath to make them stand up, but man I am happy so far!!:devil

I think once up on the under structure I will see a 2-3 inch raise up so the abs will show properly.. It should ride nicely too as the undersuit has lots of padding and support!

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Thanks!! I hope to start the abs and codpiece soon! My brother David aka propnoob76 is cleaning them up and scaling them for my suit!!! Making progress again!! Tomorrow is torso day! Gonna get back at it!
Megacon in March 2014 is my goal then Dragon in Atlanta 2014 gonna have to go to Chicago to see my friend David too!

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

So I am still slowing chipping away at the torso!:D I have added a lamination of the mycarta material to these parts. If you've been following, the Mycarta is a phenolic plastic over linen which is compressed under tons of pressure. It is very thin like a cardstock, extremely flat, hard and very smooth. This is the bottom left rear section of the torso under the rocket flaps....
I fiber glassed the pepakura then Bondo is applied and smoothed. The Mycarta is then cut to shape and epoxied onto the smoothed Bondo for a very glass smooth finish with super sharp lines.:devil

you can see that the upper panel in the middle upper part of the frame and the lower left where it is pink tinged is still Bondo..

I have to laugh about the fact that I stopped my Mk 3 build because I foolishly thought that the War Machine would be easier to build because it has flat panels!:facepalm
LOL! boy was that a misconception! :wacko I do however feel that this will prepare me for my return to the MK3 because if I can flipping do this, I can just about do anything!:devil
