Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Beautiful just beautiful

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

I couldnt see the video of the faceplate, says error, i ordered servos, and the microcontroller already
The bell looks perfect, i have to get back on my suit but gotta finish my predator first ;)

Hey eletrcflier, I red back about 15 or so pages back ta find it so I'll ask how did ya build th' slidin' track for th' minigun mount? I've like ta have something similar for a project like a list of materials ta buy and how it's constructed other than that great job glad ta see that ya feel better :p:cool:

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

I wish I had a name brand for you! Unfortunately it was in my local surplus store. They are clearly heavy duty utility style drawer tracks. They are ball bearinged and had "ears" to bolt to the drawer. They area also slitted on the inner track which allowed me to bend the outer track. This allows everything to slide even bent. I will measure the width and length of my uncut one and post.

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

Yep, ball bearing drawer slides, they've got them at almost any hardware store. Like electriflier said though, you've got to modify them a little bit, but it's not too tough. They are also surprisingly strong.

Thanx for th' info and some measurements would be handy and some tips on modifyin' thanx again brah awesome job though:p:cool:

Is there a way for you to lock the gun on one side to keep it from flopping from side to side? i only ask because i want to use this for my build

I got mine from home depot the smallest one i found was 14 inches i had to trim it down...i didn't bend mine though

You can add a screw for friction you can slide it or lift it depends how you apply it...im using a screw to hold it in place at the moment later on when i get technical i will add an actuator to move it side to side that would help it to hold it so out won't flop diode to side..

Sorry to butt in my friend...lol

I actually haven't worked on that as my goal is to use a geared worm screw that will make the gun move side to side using arduino as my drive board. That or one of my 6 channel R/C radios and having a handler control the gun. Alot depends on how bad I want to wear the suit I guess. If I have to wear it before the gun is motorized a plastic wedge or screw would be fine.

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

i can't wait to see the motor for the gun. are you eventually going to add like a stick controller ( like from a cheap rc controller.) so you can control the side to side yourself?

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

I was thinking something more simple. Left side, hit switch, right side. The trick will be getting the gun to elevate over the helmet. There was a builder on YouTube that did the Predator shoulder gun so it tracked with head movement. I'd like to imitate that! I have a Nerf Punisher for the spinning barrel and Wondersquids minigun shells to cover it with.
The other option is of course an R/C syst with an outside controller. Like they do the R2 units at conventions. Dreaming self contained in suit, but money and technology will decide.

I put together a motorization and tracker unit for my IP cannon, and it was originally supposed to travel a track to the other shoulder. I did design a motorized track and electronics to move the cannon from shoulder to shoulder, but the microcontroller would just lock the barrel aiming up (clearing the helmet) until it travelled all the way across to the other shoulder stop, and then reengage. It was a cool concept, but in the end I scrapped it because I didn't think it was worth the extra expense and labor for just that feature :(

Re: Pep to Molded Plastics War Machine,Gatling Gun,Stronger Mount and Other WM Weapon

That sounds sweet! I'd love to see some of that if you are willing. I was actually thinking a mechanical belt/pulley drive system that if the gun were on the right shoulder it will rotate the minigun body right to "sweep" across the back like the gun were tracking or strafing behind your back then rotate back to forward on the left shoulder. It eliminated the need to raise the heavy gun/barrel apparatus up over the helmet. Ill have to see though.

Man there's do many thinks i scrapped on my war machine.due to funds.....my IP will be less complicated not to much stuff...

did you figure out how you going to attack gun to arm or did you already do that?

Reviewing several ideas from bearing chair casters to mini lazy Susan's. I think bearings will help make turning and moving the gun smoother.

Honus would be th' one that built that predator cannon it's on youtube he's also a member here sen a pm i'm sure he can help /w/ that minigun keep up th' good work.:popcorn:thumbsup

Thanks! I appreciate that! I look at so many threads that I have started a log book of concepts and innovations, but some of the earlier ones I saw have been lost! Noted!!!
My thanks!
M(y)cheers

If you're interested in the head tracking unit and stuff, PM me. I don't mean to buy, If you still want to do that I'll give you my specs :thumbsup

Thought I'd post a picture of my color test for the faceplate. I am doing the Hot Toys War Machine in the black, dove grey and silver. My friend calls it cookies and cream LOL!:D

I'm actually very pleased with this color. It is a "ghost grey." It is definately not white more of a dove grey/ dirty white. It seems by all the pictures I've seen to be a very very close match!

I have found a local painter to do my flat black. He actually uses a flat clear coat that should greatly enhance my durability! That will have to go on after the dry brushing of the contrast colors.
More on that later.

Next step is installing the magnets for the back if the helmet, attaching the Chicago screws to the servo mount shim. That gets glued in, then a final sand and prime and off to paint for the helmet, neck seal, shoulder bells and the football pads that go under the torso!
