Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

I'm mostly done. Just need to finish sculpting my saddlebags and some odds and ends. Yeah, let's definitely get together.

Hey Kiddies, the secret word today is "100th"!

To all the old school peeps from the first page all the way to now, thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread.

Hey people. If you did chrome tape on your saddle bags can you post some pictures. I would love to see how other bags turned out. Here is mine with 2-3 mm strips before I trimmed them.
here some pics of my chrome trim, its been close to two years on there. I've taken it out on hot days and all.
I'll have to pull it out and take better pics.

Looks great Abe. It's funny how wrong the foil on your bike looks after spending so much time with saddlebags that are 30 years old and beaten to hell, although I'm sure they looked just like that when new.

Even though I have certainly developed a new found respect for the way the original bikes were made, I think I'm going to have mine spray chromed. I'm a little nervous about making it look so high end, but I think it will fit with my bike better than the foil.....even though I really dig the foil these days.

I'm going to go with a spray silver. The tape is fine for camera but Iwant something that looks good in real life too.

Abe, your bike looks great. What did everyone use to make the center skirt, clamps, etc? I'm ready to get started on that piece next.

Thanks!

I used 1/8" white lexan plastic and bought a set of 1" Schwinn cycle truck center sign frame clamps/brackets off of Ebay.

The brackets were super easy to make out of brass strip bought from the hardware store. A pair of tin snips and a drill is all that's needed.

The screen used bikes were made the same way as Ruddigger did his, except out of sheet metal.

And the inserts were made of MDF. Not sure why I said Masonite earlier :)

Hi. I'm currently putting together a pee wee bike. The frame I have is a 1940 Schwinn dx and i'm currently collecting parts.

Hi Betty. Good luck on your build. I'd probably recommend getting a 46-52 DX. The 40 isn't the right frame and there are differences between the pre-war and post-war frames, although to be honest, I'm not 100% sure what the differences are.

Hell with it...if the tank fits and it looks good to you...go for it :)

The main difference on that year is the rear faving dropouts. You'll probably have trouble fitting the fender skirts as well.

Thanks for explaining that. I knew it was something with the rear dropouts but wasn't sure what just by looking at pictures.
