Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

The fender I am using is after market. I have some vintage fenders and the vintage fender is about an inch longer. The width measurement is the same as yours. I might be able to space it out at the hub. Any suggestions for doing that?

Here is how mine looks. I had to put in a few washers to make clearance for the spinners too.

Excellent. I will do that and see. The vintage fender would probably be a better look. It's longer. I just need to do all the paint prep, etc. The never ending project :)

Yeah. It NEVER ends. The vintage fender will look better too. After looking again at mine I realize I have a little work to do adjusting it. Gotta love these bikes.

Did a test mount of the bags today and I'm really happy with it. The bags will be mounted with a screw and keyhole system so they will be easily removable and the top console will screw into the fender, essentially locking the bags down so they won't bounce off.

I still need to do a lot of prep work, but I think this is going to work.

What do you guys think? I finally got some of the parts together. Lots of work still to do, but this is definitely a fun project. Big thanks to Abe, Ryan, Gregg, and Kazxbug. Thanks for all of the help so far - Turk

Bought the tiger head off Abe. He did a great job making the entire tiger siren. I can't stop saying "Argggggh" My wife wants to kick me out. LOL.

Man!!!! I am glad you guys are throwing up pictures of the bikes getting closer! Makes me what to get back on mine. Nice work Turk!

Hello everyone!

For years I have thought of making my own Pee Wee bike, but I never thought it possible... until I came across this! I have already gotten the correct Schwinn DX frame, Mickey Tailor Bell, and Hand grips, and I have only just started. I haven't been this excited for a project like this in years! I am very impressed with all the wonderful work you all have done and look forward to collaborating with you all in the future!

Turk.....Abe did a great job on that tiger. You should be ecstatic!

Adam...get to work! ;)

Ickis.....welcome to the craziness. A couple of bits of advice. Don't try to take the cheap or easy way out. You'll just want to redo it later anyhow. Almost everything you need to know is on these threads and don't be afraid to ask questions. Finally....there is no rush. This is a lot of work and stupid expensive but man it makes for a sweet ride.

Good luck!!

Droidboy... Thanks! I do plan to get as accurate as possible so I have been very careful to choose the items I have purchased so far. It took me a few weeks or looking at different bikes to make sure I had the proper one to work with. I do have a few questions though for the next few parts I am looking to get.

I do need a springer fork, and there are a few on Ebay right now, but they all seem to be remakes and not real vintage parts. Would those be accurate or should I look for a NOS springer?

I am also looking to get proper horn tank and wheels. Bicyclebones on ebay has a few NOS tanks, but what I was wondering about is the holes in the tank. Are there tanks out there that are smooth, or do you just cover the holes with the medallions and fill the small ones? As far as the wheels are concerned, I read that CMC wheels were the ones to go with. Is that still the standard?

My forks are the reproduction found on eBay. I think they look fine but i know they aren't as accurate as they could be. I have no desire of changing them and I'm a stickler for the details.

My tank is also from Bicyclebones. The screen used tanks were fiberglass and probably had the holes filled in when they were made. I chose to leave my holes there because I powder coated the bike. I'll probably put a matching color screw in there to make it disappear.

Yes, I know that 2 of the 3 screen used bikes I've documented had CMC wheels. I honestly didn't check on one. I can't answer as to if all 12 or so bikes had those wheels or not, but I'm going to say it's likely.

Hope that helps

Gregg

Ickis,
If you go through the thread, there are few part where I explain the differences in the forks, you can use the 1995 repop forks, the part that holds the spring down is what changes the most. CMC wheels were just an aftermarket heavy duty wheel in the 80's. They came stock on a few eighties bikes. GT and Schwinn cruisers and mountain bikes from the mid to late 80's have them.
The tanks BB sells are not NOS, they are repop seconds from a batch made long ago. He will eventually run out. Original tanks are a lot pricier unless you get them on a complete bike. The are nice enough to run though. I have a plastic tank, although I did end getting a fiberglass tank a while back. I may switch mine out sometime soon. The metal tanks don't sit quite right as they have the inner flange where it sits on the frame, and on the movie bike the tank was scooted back a bit to allow the red cables to come out of the front area.

Once again, good luck with the build. A lot basic parts can be bought through Amazon, and read the whole thread.

I think the exact springer fork used is the early 80s Schwinn Deluxe Cruiser fork, which is rare and hard to find.
You might have to hunt for a bike to part out.
The CMC rims are also hard to find.
Supposedly the CMC rims also came on some circa 1978 to 81 or so Schwinn Cruisers, but most Schwinn Cruisers from that era don't have them.
Both these parts are out there but not really hot items for 'normal' bike collectors, so they don't come up much.

Hey guys. I know it's buried back there somewhere, but what's the specs on the Lee chi brake lever again? What do I need to look for? Thanks

I've seen the CMC's on a GT beach cruiser AD, specifically called out and one set I got came from a Schwinn Stinger. the set had the center area black anodized. If you get aftermarker heavy duty wheels, without dimples at the spoke nipple the rim profile will be pretty much the same. They usually have a bad bendix rear brake copy called Hi-Stop. I think there is a seller on ratrodbikes that sells them, the usually go for about 65 bucks for the set. As long as the profile/crown is smooth across.

I'm going to stick with the aftermarket fenders for now. I was finally able the fit the front fender with some good ole hand bending :)

As far as the brake lever, I used the Dia Compe style Tech 3 lever. Not sure if that is what you were looking for.
