Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Bike

Thanks for explaining that. I knew it was something with the rear dropouts but wasn't sure what just by looking at pictures.
Guys the prewar frame has a lot more than just the dropouts, the rear fender mounts, the crank height, the shape of the lower chassis bar where the center skirt mounts, the rear rack mounts are not there, the front of the tank area and i also believe the rake on the neck might be angled out slight more, the chain guard mounts. Might as well be a different frame, i've got two '39 Dx's and even then between the two there are differences.

In any case any ratrodder or restorer would trade you a postwar, (1946-1955) Dx frame for your prewar 1939-1942) dx frame. If your gonna build an X1 start with the correct fame at very least.

Found a couple pics on a different thread that might be helpful. The machine collar on the the handle bar and a good shot at the tank buttons and center skirt. Again, these are not my photos.

Thanks Abe. As much as I know about the Pee-wee part of the bike, I know very little about the actual frames. I just follow ya'lls lead on that.

Some updates.

I had some brackets made to hold on the frame insert which turned out really nice. As always I had extras made :).

The bike is mostly done except for the bags which I should have back from the shop today sometime. But here are some pics of how it looks today.

Does anybody know any info on getting the metal collar for the handlebar to simulate that it is removable? Any tips on making this feature? Thanks in advance!!

Hadn't check in for a while, but great to see the progress pics, Gregg. Your bike is looking super sexy! Amazing work. Even Pee Wee would be jealous.

Thanks Josh! I'm really happy with it, although now I have to do the bags and that scares me.

Found out the hard way that the front fender does not fit with the after market springer fork. Guess I have to crimp the metal to make it fit. Any suggestions for methods, tools, etc?

Thanks - Turk

I didn't have any problems with getting my fender to fit. Where are you having issues? Can you post pics?

Gregg

Turk, measure the width between the fork sides and post it, you might be able to get a used schwinn springer neck and fork yoke and use the aftermarket sides. Unless you got a fender that doesn't have the indent for the fork at all.

see item 161301404379 on ebay, that front fender has two sets of intents you can run that style or the style with just the rear indent. The x1 has the style with only the rear indent. Also see complete item 271493606151 that front only has one indent.the front trusses of the springer will touch.

I wanted to share a better photo of my saddle bags. When I had the screen used bags I made some cardboard patterns off them to make sure I got the right curvature and then had a local foam sculptor create the masters out of dense foam. From there they were hard coated, cleaned up and molded.

Unfortunately due to contractual obligations I can't give out the blueprints I've made for these but I will say that by and large the measurements that are on these pages are correct. The only thing I really see that stands out is that they get made too wide. The tail stock is pretty small and there isn't much left after you put the rings in place.

Here are some pics of the fender issue. The problem is the indent of the fender is not big enough to fit the springer fork. Sorry but the last pic uploaded upside down for some reason.

Two things I'm noticing....

1) Your gap between the chrome parts is about 1/4" or so more narrow than on mine. Is there a way you can space it out better at the hub?

2) Are you sure you have the right fender? It looks awfully short. The over the hump measurement should be like 5" and the width measurement should be about 3 1/4"
