That is just fantastic!! I can't stop looking at the pictures. Its so great how there are always new little details to be found.

My hats off to you! Immense craftsmanship, very well done indeed.

Wow, Thank you very much for your terrific comment.:lol
That really makes me dance wildly with joy.
I'm so happy that my works move somebody so nicely.:$

Thanks again,

Katsuhiko Fujihira.

This has turned out great!

Thanks blownhemi-san,

Last weekend, I've just happened to run out of my paint, so I
finished (except the paint job) the couple of on board craft.

This one is the search and rescue craft MHO-58 Pugnus 'Pug'

And this one is the gunship AO-12 Alligator 'Gator'

WOW! Oh WOW!

That is just... the appropriate word would probably be Japanese because I can't come up with any english word to describe this as they are all inadequite. I could see something like this in the movie Wing Commander or Starship Troopers (or a live action version of Space Battleship Yamato perhaps).

Do you plan to do a little light weathering on it? Plus, I think a ship like this needs at least a big black or white number near the bow since even with the SF flair, it does share lines and shapes with a modern Navy based ship.

BTW, I love the Pug as it is the perfect description for that craft (so ugly it is lovable). ;) Do you plan to put any cargo pods on the hangar deck or maybe a couple space suited deck crew figures? Something to help give it a sense of identifiable scale anyway (to a causual observer if it ever gets displayed publicly). Keep it up sir!

Thank you very much, Your words of praise are good enough for my
little works:):$.
Actually I was inspired by the pics like these:lol

As for the paint job, since I'm expecting that this ship would look like a US
Naval vessel in possible near future, I will do the paint job and weathering
accordingly. The big number on the bow is the good idea.:)
In fact I'm looking for the good place to put A flag of stars and stripes
on Tempest.

Oh, Yes, I bought a 1/350 scale of navy crew figure set (5mm tall... 1/5 inch?:lol) last year.
I'm thinking that if I could give them a space suites with glass bubble
helmet by beadwork or something:rolleyes. Do you have any good idea...??

Thanks again and I wish you keep watching my posts and give me
any straight comment.:thumbsup

Best place I can think of perhaps having a Stars and Stripes (add stars to it to perhaps hint that the US grew by a couple states in the future) might be on a wall in the landing bay. Except for flags flying on a Naval ship, one typically doesn't see them painted on externally much unless they are very tiny. But one tends to see them more in hangar bays of aircraft carriers. The Pug could have it painted on in a couple spots, say on the sides of the body like a NASA spacecraft. It could be done in low visibility colors as well (shades of gray) on the outside so as to help keep the color flow and the camo feel looking good.

Another thing that might help would be that ships sometimes also get painted with symbols showing what major awards they've won or units they are deployed with. A common one is the "E" which I believe stands for the "Battle E" for excellence award (I'm not in the Navy, but some google research should come up with something). Presumably there are others out there as well. It is part of that "Espirit de Corps" of sea deployment.

As for 1/350 figures, I think if you paint them like they are in pressure suits you will probably be fine. Maybe going with tiny bubble helmets made from beads or heads of pins might work. But in that size you really only need to hint something rather then building it when it gets that small. Of course, if the figures are painted like they are in a pressure environment on the hangar deck can imply some sort of a hidden forcefield keeping the atmosphere inside, hence no need for pressure suits. If it is a compartment open up to a vacuum, I would keep the crew on deck light (implying it is a high risk area). If it is a spot in atmosphere, I would go with a little more deck crew.

Just some thoughts anyway. Whatever you come up with, I am sure it will look great!

Since all we Japaneses stay away far from those military things for long
time,Your tips and advice really gave me many senses and ideas to
decorate my model to add more realistic taste. I am sure to make your idea
substantial :thumbsup

While I building this model, I wrote a little stories as a background of this
spaceship. Of course, I'm not going to publish or show public but only for
my studying English (at first, i wrote in Japanese and then I translated
into English by myself). I've build the model's armament, equipment and
those on-board vehicle in accordance with these short stories.:lol

Cheers,

Domo arigato yuumi-san. (and that is about all the Japanese I know even after living in Okinawa for 18 months as a kid) ;)

Just remember your own country's Navy was inspired by and based upon our own (the US Navy) and it has many similar traditions. Granted it did go down a different path from ours, but it also has a proud history. It might be worth it to look into some of those as well to compare with US Navy ones. There are likely more similarities then differences. Each ship also has its own traditions, those things that give the crew a sense of identity, to help make them proud of their vessel.

Little touches of reality in fiction can help to anchor the story, as they give the reader (or the viewer in the case of a model) something familiar to relate to. The stronger the story of what is being shown, the better. I like your idea of the short stories to define your model's features and capabilities.

Keep at it, we love the results!

Oh, you stayed Okinawa ! Looks like many of the people in this site
come visit Japan. ^^

Yeah, you are right. There must be a lot of things we have to learn
about the essence of military. We often look at it too much mechanical
data wise and forget about the meanings of defense of our own country.
Once you step into some Japanese library or book store, you may found and
be surprised how the shelves for those articles are miserably short.:confused

Thank you so much!!

This weekend, I did a little weathering with pouring some thin flat black enamel into the details. And I prepared for the paint job on the back side.:)

The result of the weathering doesn't look obvious on the pic but
Those panel lines and shades are enhanced slightly.

Great. As I look at it, I'm seeing more and more kit's you used. The Apache works great. What are the 2 ships you use as the hangers?

Thanks for the comment,

I used the couple of 1/800 air craft carrier hull for those hangers.
One was Constellation(maybe) and the other was Nimitz.
I cut the both bow away.:lol

Thanking you always,

katsu

I love check this project out everyday and it just blows me away! Fantastic are you going to cut it up and offer a kit? (sorry had to do it) :lol This thing really is a work of art!
