ORCA scratch build

flimzy, Can i ask what the dimensions of your bruce are?
It is an odd scale as I've based it on Quint being 8" from 5'10" so I've reduced my full-size models by 0.114
that gave me a Bruce of 34.2" if it was 25ft.
I have worked in Imperial only because any hardware would have been in feet and inch's. but the day America finally lets go of that antiquated
measuring system a tiny squeak of joy will fill the air. you could start slowly and follow your military and arms industry and buy tape measure with both metric and imperial. sorry rant over.

We tried to convert in the 70's, didn't work (It did in Canada though) Gallons to liters, Pounds to Grams, Miles to kilometers, Feet to meters. There's my 2 Canadian Loonies lol

The Metric System is used in the U.S. in:

Science
Medicine
Electronics
The Military
Automobile production & repair
International Affairs
Post-1994 federal law mandates package consumer goods in both Imperial and metric unit

Milk remains sold in binary divisions of the gallon, with half-pints, pints, quarts and half-gallons being the primary sizes...so the U.S.A. is "bilingual" in terms of using both systems in their society.;)

But you still sell rulers, tape measures, with only feet and inch’s? :)
Wile shooting Dark Knight in Chicago a crew mender asked to borrow my tape measure. He then cut through the steel and my tape at the same time (back when jokes where aloud on movie sets) they then sent the runner to get me a new one. I still have it today unused :) now every time I work in the state I bring with me a box full,to hand out to the crew. We stil to this day do all our drawing in metric and imperial only because the studios don’t know how to read metric.

I'm originally from Brussels (living in Canada since '82)...I'm bilingual in terms of using both systems:p When measuring photos of models on my computer screen, sometimes the metric works and sometimes the Imperial works...it's fun to know both!

Oh I do know both, I just wish we could ditch it now. sick of typing or converting 1/4. or 1'5" or 0.0025 fractions thousands or ft and inches remembering 12 inch's in at foot. when someone cut the end with the paint on from imperial stock 1" and leaves it next to the 25mm 1/4 bolts instead of 6mm. Metric M CM MM just move the decimal point it's easy. 10 fingers 10 toes.
although I was asked by a taxi driver in North Carolina years back " Where was I from?" I said "England." He replied. "What language do you speak there?" First time in my life I've been speechless.

one of my other hobbies is r/c submarines. the best ballast tanks are made by a german company. it is SO MUCH EASIER to calculate the size of a ballast tank when you understand that 1 cubic centimeter == 1 milliliter == 1 gram, and basic geometry will give you all the answers you need.

Started on drawings for version 2 ORCA using all the info gathered while making this one. I'm back at work so it will be a summer build if your not all sick of seeing me do this by now :).
...and, hopefully, with a video of that amazing model floating on the Thames (nudges, winks)  (y)(y):notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

Ha Ha Ha, Sorry had to laugh. All of a sudden I want to sing BTO.s "You ain't seen nothing yet". Summer's coming. "We're gonna need a bigger boat" "It's gonna be the best summer we've ever had".
