OK, so which one of you is Guy Raz?

Thanks for the heads-up Matt.

It was brought up before, but I don't think I've seen a clear reasoning as to why this site is readable by non-members especially considering the "grey area" of the hobby? I understand that this can block out legitimate people that have an interest in the hobby, but there are changes that could be made to the enrollment process to compensate for it. I belong to several other sites that have a system that, while not keeping all the bad seeds out, it does keep the majority of the trolls and hate mongers out.

This will be the only post I will make in this topic, as I just do not want to be involved in this whole discussion again.

Yep, I'm still here, and I still have contact with him. *gasp* And I will continue to do so, on my own responsibility. And I don't care if I was put on a secret hidden black list by some people because of this.

Anyhow, if there is just a single thought of anyone, that I am a sock puppet account for Guy, I have multiple people that can vouch my 'realness', including the entire crew of Rebelscum.com, and many long standing (crew) members from COW and The RPF (Agent5, Indy Blues, ..), or LFL employees or even some actors that I know online ánd have met in real life at events as Celebration 3.

This is all that I have to say on this subject. I will not post a reply. If you still want to start a Spanish Inquisition, feel free to PM me to stand trial and be burned as one, but until then.

We're all very impressed with who your friends are, Kris, I'm sure.
However, are you sure that IndyBlues and Agent5 are among your buddies?
If so, are you certain they are aware of your support of GR?
I'm not so sure they would be happy with you invoking their names in such a manner.

I don't know any of the people on his list who would support him in his decision to support a convicted sex offender, ESPECIALLY when his crime involved a juvenile. Just laying it out there. That's ONE of his supporters who came out.

This issue brings up an interesting question: how DO we protect our underage users? We have over 5,400 members, although Guy Raz was caught for his crime, the chances of there being other unsavory individuals trolling this forum is pretty high.

Because of my Harry Potter replicas, I interact quite a bit with younger proppers and have encouraged them to join this forum. I did warn them that they should probably stay away from the OT, but in the end I really have no control over that. I also know that several members here have kids that probably have memberships on the RPF.

I loathe the concept of net-nannying anyone, but despite their insistence or appearance otherwise, a child is still a child and deserves protection. Perhaps we should institute some protective guidelines for those under the age of 18. Disallowing PMs for underage users (with the assumption that concerned parents can / will monitor their child's email easier than a forum PM box) is one thought I have.

So people over at Rebelscum know you...by name or something? I know the owner over there and I'm almost positive that he doesn't know you LOL!

I'm sorry but I've been quiet long enough and may get flamed. I stay out of the religion and politics threads because I know I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer - but this just BLOWS my mind!!!

The lack of just plain common sense by you Kris kills me! You seem to be a nice young man and all but just because someone does something nice for you doesn't negate past transgressions! Its props and toys dude and it seems that you have made friendships by what someone has helped you build and acquire.

You need to be careful my friend....you start being associated with people like this and you tread a fine line of becoming them...maybe not in reality...but by association.

People live in perception mostly and not reality. Perception is a STRONG "force" in this world and the perception is that you condone these actions. “Why do you condone these actions”, “why are you so forgiving of something like this”, “do you know of others that have the same issue”, “have you been the victim of something like this.” See my point…none of this may be true but the questions arise and may label you unjustly.

I’m all for having a cause in life….but maybe you need to rethink this, seriously.

I root for the underdog all the time but I just can't and I’m trying!!!...I have 2 kids and I just could not forgive something like that. Call me right-winged, close-minded, Obama babe...whatever. I just can’t. I’m sorry.

I'm all for second chances but isn't there some things that you don't get a second chance for? I mean there has to be some absolutes somewhere....right?!?!?!

Mods this may not contribute to the discussion at all...so delete at your discretion...I just had to get this out.

Sorry to hijack your thread Matt...back to topic and if you want me to delete the post just pm me.

I remember having this type of discussion when I was on staff. The problem of course is how to positively ID anyone over the internet, let alone determine age. What do you consider proof of ID/age, and how do you enforce it?

In the end, with younger members, you just have to trust that parents are doing their job, which unfortuntely isn't always the case.

How about having to use a credit card, charge it one cent. Or maybe sending in a scanned I.D. for certain posting privileges? Too invasive maybe? I dont know, but I cant say that I would necessarily be against it.

You could have a referral type tab/list where people who actually meet you can say they have seen and know who you are.

I've met a few people at comicon and I can ID them. Like putting the face with the name. Also having a photo of yourself on your bio page could also help. It won't be mandatory but it would narrow down suspects.

Forcing the underaged to use the e-mail option as opposed to PM isn't that difficult, and if the kid is lying about their age on the Internet, there are bigger problems. I know that the kids I referred would use their actual ages. When you check a COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection) box, there's no way the site can truly know if you're over 13. I don't think the expectation is to protect a kid that's going to come on here and lie.

Crowe, you DON'T want to know...
oh God, I thought this was done with:sick

I like that idea.

Wow i knew nothing of this Guy Raz before reading this thread and the old one that was linked to earlier in this one.
I agree with what the majority here say that what this ass did is indeed one of the, if not the most deplorable of crimes that should never ever be forgiven or forgotten, 2 years jail time is nowhere near enough punishment for such a crime, those that say well he did his time lets forget it and move on i suspect would not be so ready to say such things if it were their daughter.
Sadly it is also true that very little can be done to keep anyone out of this forum there will always be backdoors and ways to exploit any system.

Once a pedophile, always a pedophile. No amount of prison time can cure it. To release these monsters is a crime against humanity.

I truly hope he's not here.

Thanks for the heads-up Matt.. :thumbsup

I was one of the people who became friends with proprunner, and was pretty heartbroken to learn he was just a big cover up. Ofcourse the usual emails of "I'm not a bad guy." and "I only lied about my name" followed.

I didn't know Guy Raz until he was outted as prop runner, then I read the background and was fairly appauled, sickened, and angry.

Kris contacted me privately and attempted to justify Guy's actions/intentions with children by mentioning that in other countries it's legal to get married when your 13, and why is that not wrong? And that in some villages in the world, daughters are given to their husbands when they are 10 years old. BS like that, but those are not verbatim or direct quotes, mind you, just the ideology he employed.

Kris is going to defend Guy, but I do not believe they are the same person. Kris is 100% entitled to choose his friends and his beliefs, and I won't say more, other than I disagree with his choices and beliefs all the way down to my soul.

Having read through this, I'm guessing the ID has not been revealed yet. Matt, I don't suppose you'd feel like PMing me?

And Yes, I expected him to be back too. I even expected him to be popular again.

He has the complete right to pick and choose his friends, as long as he knows that most people will not see a dividing line between himself and those he chooses to associate with.
Crimes against children are absolutely despicable and Kris has made it clear how he feels about the subject matter by supporting Guy.

That's all I have to say about this topic.

Well, I did not think my opinion of this kid could possibly go lower, but by attempting to justify the actions of a pedophile...Wow. I am disgusted. It was wrong for Jerry Lee Lewis, it is wrong for Raz. It is EQUALLY wrong for Kris to defend this tool in such a manner.

Sorry that we must seem so Puritan in our beliefs here in the states to one so liberated as Kris, but children are INNOCENT and they should stay that way for a long time.

It just makes me wonder what kind of person Kris is now since he thinks what Raz did is acceptable.

Yeah, just for the record, I met Kris at Celebration3, and he seems like a nice guy. I know for a fact that he is who he says he is, but I don't think anyone is actually questioning that. I never knew Guy Raz, or any of his incarnations(at least I don't recall having any kinds of interaction), but I know I don't want anything to do with him. I am a father, and I despise anyone who would harm a child. I'm sure I can speak for Agent5 on this matter as well, since Kris decided to bring his name into it, too.

Kris, you have a right to pick your friends and who you are going to deal with on the internet,..however, don't expect many people on the planet to agree with your ethics on the matter. I have to admit, I read your post this morning before rushing off to work, and because you involved me, it had me fuming all day long. I didn't have time to reply then, but here you go:

Do me a favor, and leave my name out of this matter completely. I would rather not have my name associated with this Guy Raz scumbag, because I don't know him, and I don't want the many friends I have met on this(and other) board(s) to think I am involved in any way. I have nothing personal against you, although I think you should choose your friends a little more carefully.

That's all I have to say about that.

That's what I'm talkin' about. I've ALWAYS felt that in order to register, you have to be "sponsored" by a (upstanding) member. I've brought at least 8 people to this forum (okay, one was a bad choice...in fact he was banned! :angel ) and most of them are still here and are constructive members. If you don't have someone vouch for you, then lurk. If you want to be a member, make it a point to go to a prop party or to meet some of us at a con so we CAN vouch for you.
But that's just me.
