Niall, you know I love ya to death, and appreciate your openness here.
I'm doing my darndest not to comment on much of this stuff, as I've probably tried to do it one too many times here (ha!)....but I must say, this statement:
is absolutely right on. It's very much like alcoholism...it's a problem of psychology, not morality. We can think of it this way: plenty of ex-sex offenders go on to commit other crimes like burglary and robbery, but rarely does it happen the other way 'round.
In fact, data speaking to this is often used in misleading ways....take this note from BOJ:
One note I WILL mention is this: amongst sex offender populations specifically, recidivism rates tend to be higher for males that commit acts involving minors that they don't know (ie, non-family members, etc.; Raz would fit this picture). Amongst the broad spectrum of sex offenders, rates are lower than most expect....but, wide variation exists.
Watch...this'll somehow be framed negatively like the last time I opened my big mouth...:lol

This is a sexual preference for these people-not a random chocie or crime.

Read quickly, it sounds like it's saying that sex offenders are more likely to recidivate generally...what it's actually saying is that sex offenders are sometimes rearrested for another sex offense, but those that were incarcerated for another offense are much less likely to be rearrested for a sex crime.Compared to non-sex offenders released from State prisons, released sex offenders were 4 times more likely to be rearrested for a sex crime.
