Hey Micheal, Harada is right, generally speaking we tend to move on to other runs. The logistics of making individual guns for each person who asks gets really costly, so if I have any extras after the run, I'll try to save one for you. But don't wait too long, my extras do tend to disappear as soon as word gets out that I might have one or two.

UPDATE! - Lets get this party started! After figuring on the scale, I am moving forward as fast as time will allow, here is the first round.

Cut strips first, then cut out the holes in the template (sorry for the blurry pic)

If it's of any help, put down money on the RIFLE first. It will likely be ready for ordering before the pistol (which I am currently taking on and is still a couple months from hitting the silicone).

This build is turning out great- I'm regretting committing money towards materials for a scratch-build! Gotta find the time to work on it! Oh... may I ask what you are using as filler in the seams of the MDF?

Though I've been doing some pretty serious costuming for many years, I'd have to say I'm semi-retired from the whole thing now. Actually, I thought I was "done" until this Oblivion get-up came along!:eek

I still want to keep my Indy outfit and Hospitaller because they are so comfortable to wear. But I'm done with full latex masks and sweaty costumes! Wearing my HellBoy was a weight-loss program in itself!!!

That's part of why I'm considering the Oblivion outfit. It's really cool looking and comfortable, too! If UD Replicas was on board with this, I'm sure I'd pull the trigger on everything without hesitation.

I understand your reasoning about re-selling the rifle and pistol if the rest of the outfit doesn't materialize. But I'm already sitting on a closet full of costumes and props that I need to pass along, so the idea of adding to that...well, you get the idea!:wacko

Normally it does take a while, but I'm using this thick pro version of glue called "hot stuff" from satellite city. The stuff is amazing and then I'm cheating because I have a spray accelerator that makes the glue harden in seconds. Any model maker will tell you, we hate waiting for glue to dry.:lol I'll see if I can locate the company that sells the accelerator for you, but look up satellite city, they have some pretty cool glues. But be warned, they are pricey.

Just looked through the making of features - no new info on weapons (there is an early concept of rifle by Daniel Simon I have not seen). Is shame that they are not releasing an Art of Oblivion type book.

BIG UPDATE! - Ok I know I said the end of the week, but I got things to do then, so I figured I'd move christmas up early! :lol

Someone asked me about how I'm seaming the separate wood strips into the whole shape, so I figured I'd give a little tutorial.

First I tack glue them to get the shape right, then I used a s-load of glue to fill in the gap areas.

This is the glue I use (the yellow bottle) the black can is a super fast accelerator that dries the glue in seconds. I build up layers of glue, then spray, then glue, then spray, until I fill in the channels.

I make a sanding block out of 3/4 mdf with 120 grit sandpaper spray glued on. (I spray glue, because I remove the paper eventually and replace again and the bond is not permanent.)

I sand carefully along the angles, being mindful not to round the edges. (it takes practice!)

This is all the glue sanded smooth on the tail end. (that's the only area I need to do on this part.)

There are some areas that need a little more glue to fill in the edge. I use a piece of blue painters tape

I spray accelerator on the tape first.

Then I put glue on the tape and area I'm filling in.

I quickly fold over the tape and press it agaist the sides, I don't touch the edge area at all.

The glue will harden because of the accelerator on the tape and then I'm left with a smaller amount to sand instead of the large mess I had before.

I sand some more with the block, always use the block because it gets you those nice sharp edges.

So I prime it, and now you can see the sharp edges and anywhere else that needs spot putty to smooth it all out before molding. Any questions?

I loved Oblivion only got around to seeing it the other day, this prop looks really awesome and I would love to get one unfortunately I think Australian customs are pretty strict on anything that looks like a gun being let through into the country, someone correct me if I am wrong, but either way a great looking prop my favourite from the movie

I have successfully shipped to the OZ. the buyer made application at the local police station - filled out a form - that had to be approved by the police. Once he had a signed authorization - scanned and he emailed the form. I enclosed it in the package - listed is a gun shaped replica sculpture - and sent it. No problems. It did take three weeks for them to sign the form. But they did it. Gordon

yep state to state varys for australia, in regards to importing these types of replicas.

ive had to get a chief comissoners approval number from vic police, which cost $170AUD, approval number lasts for 3 years.
but i still have to complete another form and supply pictures of said replica wishing to import. and wait for that to be approved.

anyway are these fully finished and painted? or just raw?

I was actually making these as kits only for just this reason. I assumed a bunch of parts would ship easier, then a large gun shape through any customs.
