Out of the starting gates...

Huge thanks to the troops over on the "Original Parts Obi-Wan Saber" thread, whom have welcomed questions, comments, and images related to my hybrid build.


This an OLD collection fo Obi-Wan ANH saber parts, cast from that old stinky, oily, yellow resin from the late 90's to early 2000's. I don't even recall where I got them...

I also have a metal replica of the sink knob, and a torqued and incomplete Graflex clamp, (which I will not be using).

So...

Being a replica sink knob (metal or not), nothing on this is original parts.

But here it is (these images are a hodge-podge of parts and progress; pretty random collection - bear with me):

So where am I on this Frankenstein of an Obi-Wan Saber?

Of the original yellow resin cast, I:
--Hacked off the pommel to use the metal copy of the Shanks sink knob
--Sliced off the grenade cast, thinking it would facilitate using the original Graflex clamp (not gonna)
--Filled the booster fins (T-track from the original artist, BEFORE the booster discovery), with lots of filler to sculpt a somewhat more correct booster

Do not know how or when I obtained the white grenade cast; not sure which cast I'll use...

At any rate, here I am (metal pommel; remains of the original yellow cast body - booster and Graflex part; carriage bold assembly).

Will be using Testor's Aluminum Plate Metalizer (had to go to eBay for it) for the Graflex clamp; may add the foil tape...

Still need to track down a calc bubble cast.

Will wet sand the Graflex clamp next, prior to hitting it with the buffable Aluminum...

It looks like the metal sheet used to make that clamp was just a hair too thick, but my old eyes could be playing tricks on me.

Bit more progress...

Got the clamp portion hit with the Testor's buffable Aluminum Metallizer (but still need to buff it). May wet-sand it; may hit it with a clear..

Might just cover it with chrome tape...


Will also add a black wash and / or paint the openings black

if that silver doesnt suffice, grab the rustoleum metallic with the chrome cap. that stuff is shiny as hell!

This looks great, my first Obi Wan sabers were like this too, mash-ups of resin and metal parts. They really look great, do you have to drill through the grenades?

It’s a very flat aluminum, not very much metallic to it

Hollowing out the resin grenade (and resin booster and Graflex clamp), so i can fill with lead shot and resin to add weight.

As a reminder...

I'm using older (OLD) parts that were cast in OLD resin PRIOR TO FULL DISCOVERY of the original Obi-Wan saber parts.

The cast resin Graflex clamp pre-dated the resistor discovery / discoveries.

My personal version uses a part from my "spares box"

The cast version featured Phillips head and standard slot-head screws, cast in resin. I cut and drilled these cast screws OUT, and replaced them with the knurled knobs on my version, seen above...

Also, the sloppiness on the Graflex clamp is - for now - intended.

The scratches were a happy accident; imposed while sanding down the cast screws.

And the overall black paint (in and around the engraved G R A F L E X) is intentionally not perfection...

I will almost certainly finesse and add more weathering.
