Question Not able to staying logged in? (find answers here)

Re: Forced logouts now?

It is very odd that the only people who still have issues have Chrome and some with Chrome can clear it, while others can't. This is definitely not something limited to the RPF as the same type of reports are coming in at vBulletin... For those that are using Chrome and did get the cookie cleared did you clear ALL cookies or just the RPF cookie? For those that are using Chrome and did NOT get the cookie cleared, did you just clear the RPF cookie specifically?

Re: Forced logouts now?

I cleared all cookies. I followed LordFett's instructions to the letter. So far so good. Closed my browser several times, and still kept me logged in.

Re: Forced logouts now?

I have been unable to duplicate the problem that members are having with either IE8 or Google Chrome (3.0.195.38). I will test out Opera today.

The only thing that I can point to is the fact that neither of the browsers were ever logged into the RPF before, so they would not contain any cookies that were generated before the patch was installed.

I will continue to work on the problem and monitor the vBulletin tech support forum to see if anything else comes up.

Re: Forced logouts now?

It happened to me a few times last week or so after I installed Firefox updates (didn't happen before then).

I did nothing to fix the issue, but it seems to have cleared up on its own.

Re: Forced logouts now?

What I had done previously was delete history and cookies from my actual computer drive under Internet Properties, but I guess that didn't do anything to Chrome's properties directly...
Chrome stores it's history and cookies elsewhere. What you did was clear the stuff for IE.

Nope this is valid only for IE8 third party browser store cookies differently...

Re: Forced logouts now?

I looked in my cookies file and couldn't see any @therpf or rpf... or www.rpf or www.therpf... Can someone tell me the exact name of the RPF cookie so I can just delete it?

If I delete ALL my cookies it means having to go back and type in every single password to all the forums and sites I go to and I'd rather not have to look up/remember/recreate all those passwords. :p

If not, I'll just keep logging in here over and over. I know that password... :D

What browser?

Re: Forced logouts now?

Mozilla Firefox. :)

Tools - Options - Privacy tab...

Click on the "remove individual cookie" text

Pull down to the folder named 'therpf' highlight it, and hit the [Remove Cookies] button NOT the [Remove All Cookies] button...

Exit out of there, and repeat the procedure to make sure it was removed...

Re: Forced logouts now?

Thanks for the fix, btw....it worked on my Mac using Firefox. I had tried it twice but it didn't work until I tried it again and made sure I closed the RPF page before deleting them.

As I said above I suspect some browsers are caching the session key in memory so even after you delete the hard drive copy if the browser is still on the site it simply dumps the old one from memory back to the drive rather then grab a new one from the server...

Re: Forced logouts now?

I must have an older version of Firefox or something because there was no 'remove individual cookie' text.

Here's what I did and so far it is working:

Tools->options-> privacy -> click "Show Cookies" button

In 'search' dialogue window type: "therpf"

Scroll down list that comes up and select all the "therpf" cookies

Click "Remove Cookies" button.

I then closed firefox came back to this site, logged in, clicking remember me and then closed the window. I reopened firefox and was still logged in.

I'll be back later if I get logged out again.

Thanks! :)

Sounds like you are still on 3.0.x time to upgrade, lots of security issues patched and bug fixes patched in 3.5.x... Most notably they continue to fix the memory issues that have plagued the browser...

Anyway what you did is the same window, just the old way of getting there...

Re: Forced logouts now?

okay, will do. I hate upgrading anything that is working because of all the new problems that usually come...

here goes nothing, though.:unsure

I have been lax to upgrade to 3.5.x because I don't like how the tab-bar is handled in it. In 3.0.x if you close your last tab it reopens a new blank tab, but int 3.5.x it closes FX.

Re: Forced logouts now?

Finally got my Opera working. Turns out the cookies were being stored in two different locations.

Told you... but did you listen? Nah-ah... :sick

Can't say I can relate as there is no option to close the last tab by default, if there is only one tab open the option to close it disappears and you need to close FF if you want to close that tab...

Now you can edit the userChrome.css file and add the option to close as outline here....

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1320715

You can also go to

about:config

And then change the value of

browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab

To change behavior as well...

Re: Forced logouts now?

There may be no X to close the tab, but if you use CTRL-W say 3 times and there are only 2 open tabs it closes the Firefox window.

I'll have to check out the about:config browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab I always forget about how much you can change in about:config
