Question Not able to staying logged in? (find answers here)

Re: Forced logouts now?

There may be no X to close the tab, but if you use CTRL-W say 3 times and there are only 2 open tabs it closes the Firefox window.

Flip the value of browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab to False and it won't...

Re: Forced logouts now?

Just adding my name to the "it doesn't remember my login info" list as well!!

Re: Forced logouts now?

For Chrome I closed all tabs, clicked the wrench in the upper right, selected options, under the hood, show cookies, remove all, close, close, exit chrome. Restart chrome and logged into the RPF no problems.

The above posted by LordFett worked wonders!!
Thank You

Re: Forced logouts now?

I'm really glad I'm not the only one this is happening to, and it doesn't appear to be happening on any other boards that I frequent. Good luck tracking it down. Looks like it's something buried deep in the code.

Re: Forced logouts now?

Looks like it's something buried deep in the code.

It was merely a new cookie hash (new way of encrypting the cookie) that is it, nothing more... Nothing buried deep in code just a new hash used to encrypt the cookie as 'hackers' found a way to brute force the old hash and take control of accounts...

As I have said and will continue to say there is absolutely nothing wrong with the site or the forum code anylonger... The single and only issue is that the end user is not deleting the old cookie and getting a new one, delete your cookies and get a new one from the server problem solved...

If you are still not staying logged in the single and only reason is that your browser is still trying to use the old cookie, you need to get 'your' computer to update the cookie by deleting the old one and forcing a new download...

As I said above I know it sounds blunt and it is, but there is absolutely nothing that can be done on this site by the staff as the problem resides on the visitors/users computers not the server...

Re: Forced logouts now?

Yeah, I was experiencing the same thing. Just purged that one cookie and it seems to work. Glad to find this thread.......

Re: Forced logouts now?

Why does no other site require this?

I did this several times, and it works for awhile. then It asks to sign in, says thank you, then asks for sign in again. Sometimes won't let me see second page, or post.

Re: Forced logouts now?

Well, I finally got myself to stay logged in permanently. I followed the directions that were initially posted, but still got logged out when I closed my browser, or after going to another site and back here, or even when I stayed at the RPF for more than half an hour. I read someone's post about an option that kept cookies from frequently visited sites in order to keep your passwords saved. I looked at my Internet Options panel, and that option was checked. Thinking that it was saving whatever caused the forced logouts, I deselected it and cleared the cookies again. I was logged out of every site that I normally have set to remember my password, including the RPF. Then I went back into Internet Options and made sure to select that option. I logged into my other message boards and password-protected sites, checking the respective "Remember Me" boxes. I haven't had a problem since. It sounds pretty simple, but it you're using Internet Explorer, you might want to make sure you try the same.

Re: Forced logouts now?

I'm using chrome and I won't stay logged in either. I cleared the cookies but that didn't work. If there is a working solution can you please put it in the first post so we don't half to sift through 10 pages?

Dumb Question about thr RPF Forum

I'm not sure what happened, but at one point not long ago I used to come here and be automatically signed in and when I went to threads I had been to after clicking a new post link in an email it would bring me to where I left off.

Not anymore.

Did I miss something, news about the site, etc.?

I know it sounds like a cookies thing or something, but it happens on both my laptop and work computer. Cookies are enabled... actually, nothing has changed at all. Not that I can think of... especially on 2 different computers.

So, now, when I come here I have to sign in everytime.

I'm sure it's something stupid that I'm overlooking, but I figured I would ask.

Thanks,

-K

Yeah, there was an announcement about it for a while up top. What browser? I have posted instructions for Chrome and I think Opera. Throughout the thread there are instructions for Firefox and Internet explorer.

Re: Forced logouts now?

Firefix user?

If so, Click Tools-Options and then click on the Privacy tab...

Look for the link on that window called 'remove individual cookies' click it...

Scroll down to therpf.com and highlight it and click the "Remove Cookie" button, DON'T click the remove all cookies button...

Been a long time since I used IE, but I believe the cookies are still stored in the cache file folder, you can simply navigate to them in the Windows Explorer and delete individual ones like files...

On side note I don't know if this is really fixing he problem just yet, would need confirmation that the forum is placing a new good cookie... *Edit I just looked at the new cookie the forum dropped it appears to be a 6 month expiring cookie now so it appears fixed...
Bumping this post. This worked for me. My options in FireFox were slightly different

Tools > Options > Privacy Tab > Show Cookies Button > Search therpf and select them > Remove Cookies (NOT Remove all cookies)> Close > Ok

Staying logged in?

I'm still having problems with the site retaining my 'auto log in' cookie. I'm sure this has been fixed by now and I'm also sure there was a sticky about it somewhere. Can anyone help?

:)
