Can someone please remind me of the benefits of using a power supply of less than 9V? Using a 9V system with the LEDs in each row wired in series, and then the rows wired in parallel yields a simple system that requires no resistors. Using less than 9 volts means you can't wire the LEDs in each row in series, and so increases the wiring mess. Or is there something I'm missing?

Well the only reason I've done 3v is because I can't get any thin 9v inverters easily.
You are right though. The 3v led setup means more soldering and more difficulty in completion. You have to cut out very thin lanes of copper tape which are a real pain to do.

The 9v led wiring is a piece of cake in comparison! Only 3 rows of solder compared to 6!

The thin led strips that come in the soles got me wondering. Three rows of them in the heel cup would certainly be easier to wire although you would need to put something over them to give them a circular led style look.

I might investigate that when I get some time because soldering each individual led in such a tight box is a real pain!

I was messing around with a new template today for my "screwed up" v2s, and I think i've almost got it spot on to the RD/Movie mags.
I can even reuse the existing v2 heel cup as its actually bigger than i thought. The heel cup is actually longer from the bottom and that bit is glued just behind the back of the sole.

So now after removing it, I can reglue it more in the RD style. I just need to skin the uppers with grey fabric and then should have something really cool soon!

Ah, so it's not that the circuit is better, but 3V just gives you a smaller battery and inverter.

So now after removing it, I can reglue it more in the RD style. I just need to skin the uppers with grey fabric and then should have something really cool soon!

What's up guys, it won't be long for me now, my el sheets, 9v batteries and V2 mags are all close to being delivered. And I have basically everything else I need, but I do not yet have the Nike logo for the el strap mod. I have a jpeg image of the Nike logo, but it is large and pixelated, and also I don't have a laser printer (only an inkjet)...so I was wondering if anyone had any stickers for the strap mod. I'm willing to pay you for them, just let me know.

Hey, i was wondering, I think you said you had a pair of US 8.5s if im correct?

did you actually try them on? do they actually fit? or are they sufficiently smaller than the US 9.5's?

ive got various pairs in size 11 US, 10 US, 9.5 US and im normally a US 10.5, but found the US 9.5 seems to be the best fit, snug and doesn't look too big from the toe area.

Even with the sole inserts glued with extra eva foam underneath, there's still tons of room in there!
the sizings on these seem to be way off!

I was looking at pics of the movie shoes when Michael J Fox has them on, and even on his feet, he seems to have a good distance between his front toe and the edge of the front sole.

I guess maybe more than a thumbs length is ok on these nike mags.

The 8.5's I have are not mine but a pair I am modding for someone. I have 2 pair of 9.5's, 2 pair of 10's and 1 pair of 11's. The 9.5's are snug and my toe hits the front of the toebox, My 10's are slightly bigger and a better fit and my 11's are very comfy but a little too roomy.

BTW, I normally wear a size 10.5-11.

I wear an 8.5 in real sizes and got 8.5 V2s. They fit a little bigger than my size 9 regular shoes. But they fit better if I wear thick socks. I need to get more of those lol. And get some insoles. I can feel the battery a little when I wear them. It's not bad, but noticeable.

Unfortunately AAA size is the biggest that can fit in the soles. Those ones you posted up are too big.

In the ankle buckle like cloneprops it may be possible. But probably flat batteries are the ones to aim for as the won't stick out like normal batteries.

I really kind of screwed up my first toe mod on my left Mag. Everything was fine until my old friend mr. superglue (aka mr. drys too damn fast) entered the picture! Take a look...


Now, in the picture the glues not even dried yet, but I guess for my first mod of any kind it's not too bad...I may end up needing to use my first pair as display pieces, hopefully the right shoes toe mod goes better. Honestly though I suck as super gluing stuff!

Also the first picture makes my mistakes look a lot worse than it does from looking at the shoe from the side...

Yet people still want these modded for next to nothing. Those are the people I say "if you think it's that easy, do it yourself" lol

I hate to make light of your situation, but you can finish the mod and have a throw-away pair. You can wear em anywhere and not worry about em getting messed up. Take em to the gym, to play sports, out and about....whatever.

Also, don't forget, guys, there are other glues out there...ones with longer drying times.

Brad has done a great service by putting his method out there (He's one of the few guys out there who when he says, "Don't like my price, try it yourself" has also given those people all the instruction they might need at actually try it themselves) but that doesn't mean everyone has to stick to it. Experiment and see what works for you. There is always more than one way to skin a Mag.

If you want more drying time, you might want to consider Shoe Goo or E-6000. (The latter having TERRIBLE fumes but basically able to glue anything to anything else) You just have to find someway to hold the pieces in place for a few hours while they set up. But if you're more the type that likes to be more slow and methodical and a 30 second (or less) drying time is just too fast for your personal taste, see what might work better for you.

After that you can still use the other superglue to finish the edge where the upper meets the sole.
