Nike MAG replicas (V2 and V3 only)

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I just purchased a pair of V2's a week ago and they are being shipped as we speak. I also have a pair of real mags as well (just in case anyone needs pictures for comparison).

Question: I am not an electronics guy... do you think it would be possibly to fit the upper nike strap with a microlight (keychain light) like this:

LRI PWK Photon II LED Keychain Micro-Light, White Beam - Amazon.com

It would be a little thick, but an easy modification (after you cut out the nike logo and the leather). You would also be able to activate it easily by squeezing the strap with no wiring. What do you think?

Here is what you guys need. It is the SIMPLEST solution for all of those who don't know electronics and just want the NIKE logo to light up.

I found a tiny 3v inverter/battery/on off button pack. This will power the NIKE logo pretty well. All you need to do is connect it with some EL sheet or EL tape. It has two settings, blinking and staying on.

You can buy it here: 3Volt / EL Wire Inverter, 1 - 1.5 Feet at Thatscoolwire.com

Here is a mock-up:

great find

does that easily fit in the back of the v2 buckle?
im looking at the measurements for that inverter, it says 3/8" so about 9mm thick.

Wow, this thread has once again turned into a 'my own build' one..

Ye I don't want to be a d1ck but if you are doing mods post in my v2 mod thread and keep this thread clean! Luke made this thread as the knockoff thread was becoming a nightmare with basically unrelated posts towards self builds on kmags v2's Ect Ect..

Again I don't want to sound like therpf police officer but please respect the intentions of the thread.

Brad with regards to your inverter post, this is on topic here just for the record so don't think I'm having a go at you and I'm sure this will help ALOT of people buying v2's that are subscribed to this thread! Thanks for sharing, this is a great find!! :)

Sweet Jebus!!! Thank you!

Where abouts would this fit Brad, in the white strap buckle? I would imagine you would have to really hollow that thing out?

Does the 3v inverter and two cr2032s last for a long time or was it flawed by being TOO small?

I think you could just about fit that inverter inside the buckle, but you would definitely have to chip away a little inside the square to ensure the buckle doesn't stick out so much.

The buckle is slightly too flat anyway. I think in a cloneprops buckle, it would easily fit and be hidden, as that sticks out and curves out more.

The v2 buckle is excellent, it just needs more curve to it to make it look a bit bigger.

I'm guessing the CR2032 battery with that little circular 3v inverter would be far easier to hide behind the buckle.

The advantage of that other coin cell inverter Jedifyfe posted up above is that its already prebuilt, you just solder it and hey presto, Doc brown's your uncle!

Hey jedifye, what colour el is that? Gonna attempt the strap I think as its been doing my head in!

there is also this one available

similar to that one above, but this one is just 1 CR2032 battery.
I think this one is 1cm thick, so would still stick out a bit behind the V2 buckle.

Tiny EL Inverter: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

This is cool though, you just hve to clip it in xD! But maybe you could remove the case ^^'

By the way, I created a group in FB so we can all discuss about everything concerning BTTF and post pictures there etc! I would be glad to all see you there :)!

Wore my V2s on a night out. Went to an 80s club and was mobbed at times for photos lol. Real good fun at night!

The lights look great in that picture. I take it those are the factory blue LEDs in the sole? (not switched out with EL....)

I'm torn with whether or not to replace the LEDs in the sole with EL or just add the strap EL and call it a day, whenever I get a pair. Even though the LEDs look spotty in most photos, I've read some comments saying they look pretty good in real life.

Isn't that what we already do here on the RPF?

Well you can't really talk about everything in on thread! I just thought would be more cosy to have a little group on facebook!

Nice picture lukebrynycz :D Do they light up this much by the day of light though? Some people say they are bright and some other say the opposite!

I have a pair and in photos they dont look so hot - however in real life and from a few feet away they look legit.

I was planning on doing the EL conversion, but its not worth the hassle to me.

Also the toe box bothered me big time in photos - but again in person.. totally ok by me.

Only thing I am putting more money and energy towards is the strap light up logo.

Thanks for that. Yeah, LEDs do weird things to cameras. While I agree the EL looks more accurate and even, (and I'm not ruling out doing that) I'm just not sure I want to tear up my shoes that much if the LEDs look pretty good as-is. Also, I've still got a bunch of blue EL sheet from making straps for my Markpoons, that I could use for making straps for my future V2's. And the color would match the blue sole LEDs nicely.

Those of you who have had their V2's for a while, how has the battery and charging system been holding up? How long do all the LEDs run on a single charge? Any problems?
