NIKE MAG Knockoffs

My only concern is that it might come out more like rough grit sandpaper than gravel. Even if it does it should still look pretty decent.

The poly I was going to use [and still might] would give the same effect. I am just curious to see what yous is like as the this stuff is toxic and I would rather not use it if I have another choice.

My other idea was to mix plastic pellets (which you can buy in bags of various colours here) with some epoxy and buttering up the soles with the mixture.

I just need something behind those splats apart from the plain grey of the sole.

You could be onto something here with that idea.

Yeah I just hope that the texture will help mask the roughness of the mid-sole on my own shoes.

Making progress on my uppers BTW.

And here is the pattern for US10.

I can't speak for the K-Mag soles but you can definitely sand the MP soles smooth if. If you're concerned about roughness that might be an option.

I'm about to start on my uppers too. I basically used an unpicked MP shoe as my LAST. Still unsure of how to go about it.

The 1989 Mag had no lining in the show. The outer fabric was simply cut and folded and glued over the edges. You can even see the black foam inside the shoe in the scene where he puts them on.

The 2011 has a lining.

I covered my foam with Shoe Goo so I now have rubber mid-soles.

I've made a mini tutorial HERE. Post #216 if the link does not take you there.

I'll have a lining, but limit the foam to the end of the straps so the toe gets that soggy look when not wearing them. I'll pad the collar and heel well though.

It's a Japanese brand named Asahipen. It's a stone effect spray for plastics. It promised an effect like the Mag2011 but is closer to the 1989.

Best thing is it does not show cracks when the sole flexes.

Should I go with this stuff? I'm getting better at those splats.

There is a line of stone effects and crackle effects paint at the local hardware place. I will have to take a look for something similar.

You sound pretty confident with the product, so go for it.

Your splats look really good! I'd say if it flexes and doesn't want to flake off then it should work!

Yeah. I'm thing i'm going to stick with it...because it sticks:behave

I never thought there would come a time when i'd actually be obsessing over splattering of paint to this degree. I suddenly have a new respect for Jackson Pollock

The only stone effects available here are these finer ones so i'd be very interested to see what some of the Australian alternatives are.:thumbsup

Looking forward to it. With some texture, those soles of yours are gonna look killer.

I think i'm going to go over the heel cup and midsole with a light coat of gloss clearcoat. Not for protection, but just to replicate that slight rubberiness that the 2011 has.

Thanks. Yeah they need the splatter to finish them off.

I used Shoe Goo on my mid-soles which gave me a rubberized feel and look. I wonder how it would look on the Heel Cup and if that would make it better match the mid-soles? Hmmm, might have to do that on an off cut to see.

Yeah, i'd try to get a uniform look as much as you can.

It's amazing how much that texture just ties everything together. It's also surprising that so many Mag projects have chosen to ignore that aspect of the design. it's one of my favourites.

I think I was going to ignore it too until I watched Cloneprops videos :cool

I have made a start on my uppers tonight. You can see images in my MAG build thread.
