NIKE MAG Knockoffs

Just glueing down the soles now. Had a mishap on the sole so will have to resplatter in that one spot.

what glue is best for this? for gluing rubber to the foam sole?

loctite superglue or amazing goop/shoo goo?

and when you glue them on, do you just glue around the edges? ie, if the el light is in the middle, you obviously have to avoid getting glue onto it.

Im using what I think is like Japanese shoe goo.

Well, the part you see here is all glued down, every inch. The EL section is seperate and will be maingly glued at the edge.

Invested in a Vacuum Chamber and Vac Pump, yes. Yet to get a return on that investment though.

When I glued mine down, I did them so the Shoe Goo covered all the parts of the clear sole. I then massaged them to get out the air bubbles. Shoe Goo heats up slightly when curing, so you need to make sure you tape the clear rubber part to the foam really well or it warp and twist. I had to redo my front parts on both shoes because of this and in the end, glued then down in two stages. They won't come off now though.

When I do the set for the size 8s, I am actually going to create the clear sole on the mat and use ice to smooth it. I will test some out under vacuum to see what that does. Generally i found it is possible to get bubbles out through working the product with an ice cube. Have a whole tray of ice handy. I went through heaps doing mine.

It's sooooo fun seeing everyone taking on the shoe different ways! It goes to show a little creativity can go a long ways! I'm stool having trouble finding what glue would be best to attach the cloth to the shoe :-(

It really is. I just feel like I need to bring my game up to the level you guys are at. I'm not at the point that i'm using vacuum form tables or making complex castings. The most complicated thing I did was make a casting of the MP sole for making my clear soles. And even that was using mostly stuff bought from a kids craft store.

Because you are laminating cloth to the vinyl, you might be best to use a spray on adhesive.

The gear I bought was not purchased just for these shoes. It was an investment to expand my business. I am simply taking the opportunity to use the gear to make these parts to learn.

Thanks. Trying to get it as clean as I could was my main goal. I have to start investing in casting/ vacuum molding like Cavx and Punisher et al have done.

good stuff
did you manage to upload a pic of the plain rubber sheet and the manufacturer?

still trying to find a similar rubber sheet here in the UK

thanks

That pyramid mat I used as a mold is available in clear. The challenges:

1. It is PVC not rubber.
2. I'd have to buy the entire role.

Sorry. I keep forgetting to do it. No luck on the manufacturer though. I asked again while I was there for something else and they can only tell me they sell it. They literally have no idea who the manufacturer is. Pathetic.

im just trying to figure out.

obviously if you want to have a wearable pair, then it doesn't really matter if the bottom bit has any waffle design on it.

its only really the sides isn't it?

im just trying to work out what type of rubber sheeting would be ok to use.

im definitely sure there is something premade that we can get here in the UK and im sure in the USA.

im going to keep asking around these rubber sheeting suppliers, something may come up hopefully.

also, im not totally happy with my heel cup that i made in clay.
haven't had much time to do anything recently but will continue this week.

im thinking of redoing it again, doing one each for each shoe.

i was wondering though what to use though for what to shape around.

i have the hilarious idea of using an orange! and wrapping the clay around it, then baking it ontop of the orange so i get a nice shape to it!

im not sure though whether the orange would start to melt straight away in the oven!

It is to expected as the manufacture probably sells to a distributor first anyway. The retailer would only know the supplier, not the manufacture unless they dealt direct which is doubtful.

If the sides are you concern, then yes, you can use pretty much anything that has the pattern or can be imprinted with the pattern.

An orange might soften before the clay bakes. I made my master out of layered PVC pipe and then shaped that. I don't have many tools here and managed to grind this out using a 4" grinding wheel that attached a bolt too to allow it to be used in a press drill. Because it grinding plastic, and the drill turns slower then the grinder would, I was not fussed that it would chip, clog or anything else that could happen if used improperly as I have done.

The challenge I face in the way I made both the Ankle Buckle and the Heel Cup is that I need to visualize the end plastic part and allow for the thickness of the plastic that will be used on this.

Last night I made a LAST for my shoe upper pattern using the shoe itself and a heap of 3/4" masking tape. Maybe you can make the heel cup by doing this, peeling it off, then filling it with Plaster Of Paris. Then you can shape and mold from that. Just a suggestion.

I put together a custom shoe box. :love

That is way cooler than the yellow cardboard box the actual 2011 MAGs came in. Well done for raising the bar yet again.

Back in 1989, NIKE release the NIKE AIR PRESSURE which also came in a clear [translucent anyway] case. I remember thinking how cool that was when I bought mine.

So I want to [when I perfect my Vac Forming] create a clear version of the NIKE FOOTWEAR tube bag. I've designed this new version to have the lids slide around the body and Vac Forming will allow the recessed handles as well.

Well, I bought some spray this morning that supposedly replicates a textured gravelly surface. It's the right shade of "concrete" to match the Mag soles so let's see how it works. Stripped my other pair of Mag soles for this attempt.

If it's not perfect, it will at least mean that I can cut the splatter back to more closely match the 1989/2011 splatter. It will look closer to the splat on the soles of my outsoled ones.

Pics please! I need to know what you have found as I want to texture my mid-soles and Heel Cups before I splat them with aqua [teal, cyan or what ever colour equal amounts of blue and green give me].

My only concern is that it might come out more like rough grit sandpaper than gravel. Even if it does it should still look pretty decent.
