NIKE MAG Knockoffs

I never claimed it was anything other than my opinion, but there is no evidence for them existing or not existing besides second hand information and rumor.

All I said was I hope a V.2 is released, but I'm not holding my breath.

I've seen knockoffs released BEFORE the real product. Their production timeline is extremely short, so I just question why it's taken so long, when the most profitable time for them would have been immediately after the 2011 Mags were released, since Nike would inadvertently be doing advertising for the knockoffs, by making the Mags so desirable.

If they come out, I'll be first in line to buy them...I mean, I was one of the - if not the - first on the board to grab the current K-Mags...the first to dissect them...I even gave them the name "K-Mags." I'm a fan of what they can do and I'd love to see it taken further.

...I'm just not holding my breath. Even with my 6 month hiatus, I could probably still get a pair made up before we see or hear of a V.2 K-Mag.

While I hope that they come out soon, I too am not holding my breathe.

However, to play devils advocate, the MAGs were a very closely guarded secret within Nike that only a small group of people knew about them until they were released. Unlike Yeezys that people know about months ahead of time.

So you just waiting (and hoping) these come out? What about your MAG build? I think I will have my cloth over foam set built before we see anything decent as a knock off of this shoe.

Yes, im waiting for them. They even say the factory is almost done with them. The reason I believe them is that the same people said a Nike Air Jordan replica would be released and they did indeed sell them. So thats why i still believe (as timmy cappello once said in the lost boys:thumbsup).

I'm still trying the self build, but haven't had enough time to properly do anything for a while, and i'm never happy with the progress as i've ****** up several silicone molds, but it would be so much better if a proper replica is available for a reasonable price.

ive managed to complete my ankle buckles and now just finishing off the heel cup below.

im going to make a brush on silicone mold of this, then create the other heel cup for the right shoe. Considering i've done both the heel cup and buckle by hand and just by looking at pictures, i reckon i've done a fairly decent job.

whenever i get time, i do a little bit, but will probably continue this over the weekend to smooth it out properly.

I read somewhere (maybe watched on YouTube?) the 2011 MAG was a 6 year project. How does anyone keep a secrete that long with today's technology and social media?

This looks great. Whilst I like the way mine turned out, when I look at mine, they are too tall.

Legal threats and I believe it was only about 5-6 people working on it.

I suppose a company like NIKE would have the funds to defend their Trade Marks, Patents and any NDA's signed by employees.

So is there any truth in the time frame?

The original MAG would have been knocked in just a few weeks and that was a scratch build for the film. For the 2011 MAG, they had at least one shoe (maybe a pair) in their hands for the redesign.

After looking many times at these shots of AlexBC's MAG, I decided to re-work my existing foamies rather than just make a new pair (mostly because I have not been able to find the same mat since :confused).

Apart from making the mods I listed earlier that were made to the paper shoe and patterns, I also cut the edges of the ribs at about 45 degrees and this has taken that sharp edge look off them. I hope that when I cover these in cloth, that they should blend a bit better whilst still being visible.

This pair unfortunately still has the wider inner sole, so don't quite have that sleek shape of the paper MAG. I know that once the glue dries from the toe extension, I'll most likely hack them again to give them the correct shape.

The only regret to doing these this way is that I now have two seam at the edge of the toe where before I had the proper construction. :unsure

At least this won't be visible when I cover them in cloth as I will be making the covers correctly.

5 to 6 people.

they must have been paid well.

Hey airair, have you got some news to share? I got an email with a message that sounded promising. When I clicked the link, it took me here and what was in the email message was not here. I realize you get some time to edit your post before the system flags the edit, so maybe you edited shortly after posting. Do you care to share?

Here the foamies after the first mod.

So now they are a bit longer, but also have the nasty looking seams near the toe. I am afraid I don't actually like the shape, so they will going under the knife tonight.

Just that the proper Nike Mag replicas are being released and have been made as confirmed by several people i've contacted. As to how accurate they are, only they know.

And only time will tell. Is there a release date yet?

And so with a few hours and 3 go later, I now have a pair of foamies that match my paper MAG.

I forget, did you post the responses to your queries? Just want to see how they phrased things.

I actually rang a few people in China after scouring for hours and days, and had some web chats with many different factory owners who are hardcore knockoff suppliers.

I asked so many questions to make sure, and i got the answers I was looking for,
I was told it should be coming out this month (October) barring another of their "delays".

All you need to know is that they are coming out with EL in the sole and LEDs, and the full grey uppers. Now as to how accurate they copied the original mold, thats the big question. There's no pictures yet, but having seen though how long its taken them to make it, i'm pretty damn sure they made a reasonably good copy.

They can make almost identical copies of Air Max's and virtually all Nike, Adidas shoes these days, so this Nike Mag should be just as easy, aside from the electronics I imagine, but even the electronics will be cheap for them as its all from China anyway.

They should be in the wholesale market very shortly.:thumbsup

If they don't meet the expectations, im just going to go full steam ahead and finish off the self build.

Are you going to glue the entire uppers along with the bottom blue foamy sole shape as well onto the knockoff mag soles?

How thick is that blue foam anyway? from the pictures it seems thicker than the craft foam ive got which is about 1.5mm or thereabouts and a bit floppy if you curve it near the toe area.

Taking long time to make something don't automatically mean something is going to be good in the end.

Yeah just look how my last MAG project turned out :lol:lol:lol

well don't knock yourself down. Considering we've been doing these self builds all by hand, i'd say everyone's done a good job.

If i knew 3D sfx, then it would be easier, but i have to do it the old fashioned way using homemade molds.:thumbsup

Not sure yet if I will rip the leathers off the K-MAG soles or just make new ones for these. I kind of want to make new soles because of how light I can make them. That Cold Cast Clear Elastomer (plus all the Shoe Goo and the leather) added some real weight to them. Each shoe is about 700g where the original K-MAG was about 350~400g

It is 3mm and 6mm where it is doubled up like inside the heel and the ribs down the sides. I was a yoga mat. This is not the final pair, rather a test pair so if something goes wrong, it doesn't really matter. I am just recycling here so if it works out, then great. I am actually entertaining the idea of an FX pair - cutting holes in the bottom to pull tight the "power laces" like how they did it in the movie. Either that or this pair gets mounted on a Hover Board and is a display pair only.

When I do the real set, I will start flat. I want to use spray adhesive to attach the fabric to one side (inside) of the foam, then stitch the second layer so that when it is turned inside out, the foam is encased in the stretchy material. This was the idea with the canvas as well, except the canvas didn't have enough stretch.

Once the two parts of the uppers are made up, I will them stitch them together using a ribbon as reinforcement so that when they get turned inside out, there is no visible seams on the outside. The foam, the cloth and the ribbon are all stitched at the seams and the shoe should be quite durable.
