NIKE MAG Knockoffs

I'll be the eternal pessimist here, again, and say I doubt these shoes will ever be released...but would love to see it happen.

We're dealing with a muddled supply chain, where one wholesaler might be confused by people emailing him asking him questions in a slightly leading way, making assumptions, or just trying to brush us off.

Once again, I hope I'm wrong, I just have to be realistic, and I'm not sure even the knockoff market is really begging for a V2...or even a rerelease of the V1 at this point.

One thing I hope they get right is the way the clear sole splays. The v1 kmag and mp wrap too tightly to the mid sole

Looking at the way Punisher's sole imprint worked out, it almost seems that the shape of the sole is partially a reverse or negative to what it is supposed to be. The clear parts on the real MAG extend out, yet the K-MAG tapper in. It would be interesting to know if the soles were cast chopped, if it could be remade with the proper shape.

The wholesaler said pretty much 99% they will come out end of August, that is I assume that the factory who's making it has completed it perfectly. I'm thinking that the delay could be a good thing. Giving us a perfect replica would be great, even if its without any led or el lights.

From what they did say though, this is an "LED shoe", so I guess it must have something electronic on it!

There is a few possibilities:

1. No such shoe will be produced. They have just said they will because the Chinese don't like to be seen as not being able to make something.

2. It will be made of the same materials as the current K-MAG, just different colours.

3. They actually do produce a nice replica but it costs way more than the K-MAG and everyone complains about the price.

I'm def. interested in seeing how this is going to turn out. I guess we'll find out at the end of August then. What website exactly have you been in contact with? Was it BuyLuxuryClothing? (They're terrible at customer service)... SBShoe? (they have great shipping and great customer service)...Or Kwaibay? Just curious to see what else is on the site and if it looks as legitimate as it sounds right now. Forgive me for being so skeptical, but there has been talk for months about a V2. I have the V1s and would absolutely love a new set of more accurate ones...but right now it is all hopes and dreams

I suddenly realised why it is I never liked the ribs on the Mag.

It reminds me too much of an Addidas shoe. With the Nike swoosh on top...it confuses my senses :confused

Speaking of the possible v2 Mag, would EL be prohibitively expensive for the KO companies to pull off? Is it more likely that we'd see led lights in their place?

If so, are blue leds also prohibitively expensive (I might be behind the times here)? I'd hate to see them use the cheaper yellow/red leds instead.

The ribs are actually very clever in that it shows NIKE was way ahead of the curve in their 1989 design to anything else at that time. The idea that the laces should start at the mid sole and wrap around the foot was not really shown until PUMA released their DISC lace system. Even NIKE's own flagship hi-top the NIKE AIR PRESSURE didn't have this in its design.

Yeah, and they will probably flash as you walk in them like those kids shoes you see around :lol

I can not seriously see these shoes coming out with lights, not for the sub $100 price anyway. If we get a taller version of what the shoe is now, we'll be lucky. Clear soles would be sweet, but we'll have to wait and see what we get.

was wondering if any of you guys can upload some screenshots of the mags from the back to future 2 blu ray?

i don't have blu ray on my PC so can't take screencaps.

if anyone can, let me know. in particular the lacing up scenes.

I do have a BD drive but for some reason I still can't take screen caps. DVD no problems, just no BD. Both the Snip Tool and the Print Page option result in a black rectangle.

Anyway, here are some that I captured off my projection screen.

A word on fabric. Has anyone looked at low weight canvas? I watched a you tube video on how to make a duct tape dummy and ended up on some some woman's blog about the dress form she made of her self. She used this light weight canvas as the cover because it has a slight stretch.

great thanks

ps, for the nike logo on the strap.

The ones you get with the mark poon shoe, are they waterproof? and are they simply inkjet printed onto clear transparent sheets of paper?

I bought some inkjet printable transparent a4 sheets which are sticky from underneath.

Not sure what to stick ontop of it to make it waterproof.

Would standard coverfilm like you use for books and stuff be ok?

Yea, DRM is the cause. For a Blu-ray screencap, download Any-DVD (free for 21 days) and it'll decode the disc so you can take screen shots. I bought a cheapo external drive, downloaded Any-DVD and use PotPlayer (free player).

They are press cut and you peel them off and then remove the parts you don't want. I don't think they are "water proof" though.

You'd be best printing onto clear plastic and that would be as "water proof" as you can make it.

Thanks. I had AnyDVD for a time (vista days?) when I had a HD DVD drive on a Toshiba PC. I uninstalled it because it caused it more grief than good with that system. W7 and BD is a different animal altogether and I should give that another go.

Thanks, yeah. im going to try printing onto some clear plastic.

in the meantime, i think i finished my ankle buckle design. it seems ok.

and now im almost done on the heel cup. I made it in Sculpey, and did it by looking at the original screen used and 2011 release shoes. It was a pain to do the lettering. I had to cut each one out and then flatten it, then keep cutting them and slicing them very slightly to get an accurate look. But i think it looks ok now, certainly i can't do any better now. I baked it now, so almost done.

i still need to adjust the way it curves at the top to the sides and add the sort of rough spots on the heel cup, but overall, it seems to fit well and matches the sizes of the real shoes.

I will probably make a mold in silicone in a few days. Its the first time ive ever actually done any mold making, so hopefully i won't ruin any of my parts before i have a usable mold. And then will have to decide what casting material to use.

I was thinking of using plastic, but i reckon it would be a bit heavy, so deciding on a rubber.

Just need to find one which isn't life threatening to breathe in.

WOW those parts look great. OK, so what is the Ankle Buckle made from? Is this one a cast part? I saw where you asked about using unfired sculpty as a dividing wall. Is that the final cast version?

thanks, the ankle buckle is still clay, its white fimo classic.

I went back to sculpey for the heel cup, its so much better than fimo.

That fimo was all crumbly, and very hard to smooth over.

The only reason i attempted the buckle in fimo was because it was white colour, and it seemed to give me a better visual look whilst making it.

for the heel cup though, the sculpey has worked out perfect. its so easy to smooth over bits and cracks. I actually snapped both ends off by accident when baking the first time, so i put some more sculptey and now its hard again.

im just finishing off the rough texture bits for the heel cup and fixing the top rounded edge and it should be done. the only thing left then will be shaving off a few mm off the raised Nike lettering. i checked the original and its not as raised, so will need to sand some of that off to make it less raised.

im thinking polytek eazyflo 60 for the ankle buckle when casting, and some sort of rubber for the heel cup.

im not even sure how light that eazyflo resin is? i hope its light enough.

following about an hour of painstaking work, i managed to cover the heel cup with lots of little clay spots to give the "rough" texture appearance. I think it looks ok, and once in rubber, should look better.

i think i will cast this in rubber, then paint over it.

all i need to do now is cut out some space for the led light area on one side such as left side.

i will then make a mold of it. once thats done, i will fill that hole up with clay again, and then cut out the other side and make a mold for the other side.

then i should have 2 molds, one for each shoe.

:thumbsup Great work and progress.

I have turned to Plaster Of Paris for my latest sculpt on the heel cup (because 3KG was like $10) and I am using a Vac Form of my plastic version that didn't pull quite enough as the mold. Also, because I want to make a pair for my wife, I need to make a 2nd set of buckles and cups that are smaller. One size DOES NOT fit all for these shoes.

The challenge I face is that when you Vac Form something, the buck needs to be smaller than the final part you are wanting to create. In the case of the Heel Cup, I need to shave about 2mm off the entire block because I will use 3mm plastic to make the new parts. I am also going to use a polyester primer and a wool roller to make the textured surface.

I have also heat formed my laser cut letters to sit on the curved surface. I guess I will need to clue these in place with something better than hot glue as that melted last time I did this.

So at some point today I will hack into that to carve out the details, seal it with clear and make another Vac Form.
