NEW to TheRPF! First build of TASM (2012)

So im stuck with the large ones then :/ The 57g ones crack you said? Ill probably have to get it tomorrow then, but if i make a few of them, where can i sell them on theRPF? Im not explorative on this site xD

Sadly it would appear so. The Sculpey III cracked every time I baked it. Haha I'm actually not sure where to sell them on here, I'm new to it myself. I was wondering the same thing because my might have some extra stuff...I was thinking of giving it away, but they would have to pay for shipping either way.

Ill get the Firm one then! And i respect you for giving them away! Actually before i took this serious i used to make full suits out of paper, then find them destroyed later by siblings xD But yeah some people on this site go OTT ! Either way ill update this post when something is done

Im gonna keep the Super Sculpey a possibility for the moment. However would the others work? Are they as good or what are the other methods? Ive looked all over but everyones interested in 3D printing. I cant print anything until next weekend because were off on holiday atm.
3D printing has really taken off quickly. I remember it being relatively new just a few years back and now it's everywhere. Anyways, I actually used regular sculpey from walmart and it worked fine, when I baked it and everything. The only reason it snapped for me is because they were tasm 2 lenses and therefore thinner (and I messed up in making that spot too thin as well). Tasm lenses being smaller and a bit thicker would be more structurally sound id think. This is just off experience though, I don't really have knowledge on sculpting and clays and all that. Otherwise I would've figured out how to curve the lenses before and not after

Mannnnn im really indecisive whether to get the firm or regular, Im probably gonna get the firm one, but then again OneGoodScare you have a point. Thats the thing i hated the TASM2 suit and lenses, TASM1 felt more realistic, more spidey-built if you get my drift. The TASM1 lenses were as if Peter built it himself, where as TASM2 was like kinda ehh. The TASM1 lenses are thicker and slightly smaller (11cm x4.5cm) So i could use the standard sculpey. HendoArt used regular on here forum : http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=235000&highlight=spider+gwen and hers turned out pretty damn good, but then again those are HUGE!

Yeah, they both have their pros and cons. The jump to tasm 2's more comic version was a bit weird. I used to love the eyes but they look a little too friendly. I like spidey's eyes to look a little sinister myself, whether they're big or not. The tasm faceshell is better too imo, more slim and not all bobblehead-y. But yeah, I think regular would be fine. Hendo's look nice and thick, which seems like the way to go with sculpey.

Dude, get which ever you think is best. But I would recommend making some kind of mold with either version just in case. Maybe I'm being too cautious, but that's just so you don't have to do all that work again if anything happens. I remember that when the sculpey I was using cracked, I had it baked with a plaster mold, so that may be why it happened. But since Sculpey III is jsut a step down from the Firm version, you should be fine!;)

Why are there so many versions of sculpey :facepalm My decision is down to these two, which is the best then? (Sorry for mass of questions!):

http://www.amazon.co.uk/kitchen/dp/...e=UTF8&qid=1433091084&sr=8-1&keywords=sculpey

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Premo-Sculp...=UTF8&qid=1433091084&sr=8-13&keywords=sculpey

My most probable one will be the super sculpey, amazon just added this new list with prime shipping and its cheaper, but as a finalisation?

haha, I know what you mean. And no problem, if I can help, I'm glad to. I haven't heard anything about the Premo Sculpey, But I have heard from people who work with polymer clay to never sell anything made of Super Sculpey original. I've never used either myself though. :/

So both are terrible xD I read up about it. Premo is a better quality than regular Sculpey and tougher. HendoArt used this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sculpey-Cla...qid=1433108478&sr=8-1&keywords=Sculpey+(8+oz) here is her thread: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=235000&highlight=sculpey if you see her frames, they are bigger and thicker, but again my TASM1 is smaller and thicker. So im stuck between these two:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sculpey-Cla...UTF8&qid=1433108849&sr=8-2&keywords=Sculpey+8
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sculpey-794...e=UTF8&qid=1433108853&sr=8-2&keywords=Sculpey

Wow, she did an incredible job.

I would choose whichever is stronger, which is the Premo?. The TASM1 lenses don't look like they have any fragile or thin parts so you might not have much trouble there. Make sure you have a nice, even structure and you should be fine:). Another product that I've used is Instamorph(thermo plastic beads), you should check it out. You might find some use for it.

Yeah this is the final one im going with, which is the one that Hendo used: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sculpey-Clay-Premo-8oz-White/dp/B007QNEF3C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1433175820&sr=8-1&keywords=sculpey+o. I looked at the Instamorph, its alot more expensive than the Sculpey and requires alot more of work, but i guess its better, maybe something to try later

Well this stuff is basically unbreakable and you can reuse it an unlimited amount of times. It's as easy to use as clay, just warm it up in heated water and shape. it is a bit more expensive, but for what it is, it's pretty well priced. I just thought I'd mention it--It's good to know about these materials in case you need them later ;)

Yeah man, ive got my last exam tomorrow (Statistics ;/) But then after that ill buy the equip i need (scupley bondo ect ect). In the meantime ive been pepping Captain Americas shield, surprisingly i got it printed, glued to card, cut and folded in 1 day! All thats left is glueing it together and hardening it, will save for another post. For the spidey setup though, its been working on the webshooters to make them functional, web formulae is close to a slightly strong adhesive that doesnt corrode easily, but im miles off the real thing. Looking to buy a Notched Izod for the instant pressure of the cartridge. Will post more in the next few days!

Wish me luck !

Hey guys! So i ended up buying Sculpey Firm, purely because i wanted to get it right and in good quality, plus pay day came :) As far as the webshooters ive been doing wiring diagrams, thats been slow. The faceshell i had a bit of an issue purely because, when i made it out of cardstock and covered it in masking tape, the masking tape i used was rubbish it kept peeling off. So now the faceshell is still soft and bendable and you can see the tape. Ive been sanding that down and working around it, and from todays work its more stronger and firm but still some crack so im gonna replaster and continue till desired shape. As for the frames i received the Sculpey today so ill get those done for tomorrow. Another issue was that my gold spray had rusted up, probs because cap wasnt on properly, so i found a nice copper/gold spray in stores for about £4 ($4.50) and matches the movie colour!. Will post more in a bit!

You're making a cap shield as well? Awesome! I can't wait to see the shooters. I've seen a couple formulas being thrown around, but most of them turn to foam when shot out. Also the CO2 tanks usually used end up making the build too bulky :/. Hopefully you can manage something more practical, even if it's not strong enough to hold up a car :).

Heya! Sorry for the late reply, ended up getting food poisoning on Wednesday, been bed ridden since :/ Ive had a lot of updates, so might aswell do it as one big post! So i ended up cutting the lenses out, spraying them, buying sculpey, working on the faceshell and more! Pictures to follow up! As you can see the visibility of the lenses are ridiculously good! It seems really blurry but thats the best i could get my camera to focus ( Apple fml xD) In real life they are actually really clear to see out of. When the lenses dried, it came out more copperish than i expected, but I personally like it, it gives to feel of it being more made by Peter! Will post more soon!

Ahahaha ! The cap shield is a side thing, so thats going to be a slow build! As for the shooters its been more drawings and experimenting, no pics yet but will have some soon!

Hey dude! So basically what happened was the faceshell I made i used Spackle (found in a Spider Gwen thread) I use the same materials but unfortunately the shell just collapsed. Not only that but with college and my YT channel growing well I couldnt find time. Plus with more studies I wasnt getting into shape for comic con. HOWEVER! My plan is to restart the build, to be frank I wasnt far and Ive learnt all my mistakes, studies are at bay with great grades YT videos are consistent and Im back to dieting, i need to loose around 7kg (doesnt seem much but will be hard work) In time for the LAGC in July. Ive scheduled all of this and the build has already been planned with materials. In the following month I will revive this thread, and we will kick some spideyass with this! Thank you though for reviving this thread.
Anything new?
