New Star Trek Section 31 Phaser

Cover of SFX features character holding a new phaser. Looks like a mashup of TMP, TNG, and Discovery phasers. Unclear if P1 is removable — does not appear to be a separation line along the side, but it might lift out and take the emitter with it, leaving the side of the phaser in place. The control pad looks like a variant of the TMP/TWOK style. Pretty sleek. Almost as cool as Andrew Probert's original TMP redesign.

It’s less of a real “new design” and more of a “hey…what if we took this part of that phaser and that part of that phaser, and jammed it together…BAM!! Peanut Butter Cups!!”

Probert’s take on the TMP phaser is the one I really wish they had revisited. The shared emitter makes for a thoughtful and logical reimagining of the TOS p1/p2 combo.

Well, they did incorporate the Phaser I / Phaser II combo in the production version of the TMP / WOK Phaser, of course:

But I have always liked the sleek design that Probert produced.

The Mad Catz video game “Fazor” sure seems to have taken some design elements from it:

Funny - just got this issue of SFX and googled this Phaser.
Low and behold - thanks Intercraft!

I like this design - I admire the use of colour and the emitter nods to TNG - plus the grip's a good size.
But of course - it screams TMP / TWOK.
Very cool.

Yes — hadn't thought of that connection to the cricket.
All the phaser DNA expressing itself.
I'm curious about the P1 aspect of this new one, assuming it can be removed.

Holstered shot. Haven't seen any shots in the trailer with Rachel Garrett holding the phaser. Hoping we get some better frames in the movie.

Yes. I do like that basic idea for TNG phasers instead of separate cricket and dust buster models. For me, the cool factor for a Starfleet phaser is the P1-P2 combo. Given Probert's involvement with TNG, I wish they had just dusted off his original, sleeker TMP concept and called it a day. The curvature at the front of that P1 as it tapers to the horizontal emitter makes it look really dangerous. Plus, details like the off-center crystal on top give it that little asymmetric twist, like the TOS P2 having different left and right sides.

Pretty much the only things I like about dark, dank, Kurtzman Krawp Trek. The designers/artists who design all of the landing party props.
I like all of the main hand props, even though the SNW comms are, almost exact TOS versions and the SNW tricorders are, also, very similar, but with some laziness, in their design with needless repettion of control and knobs for a, relatively, small, portable carry device.
The SNW PHASER is a definite favorite and looks much more streamlined than the original TOS versions.
This Septic 31 version is a very good mashup of the STTMP/TWoK/TNG PHASERs.
I like it, as well. It's a pretty cool mashup with all most of it being based on the TMP/TWoK version.
Again, old Trek still stands up to time.
