New Star Trek Section 31 Phaser

Pretty much the only things I like about dark, dank, Kurtzman Krawp Trek. The designers/artists who design all of the landing party props.
I like all of the main hand props, even though the SNW comms are, almost exact TOS versions and the SNW tricorders are, also, very similar, but with some laziness, in their design with needless repettion of control and knobs for a, relatively, small, portable carry device.
The SNW PHASER is a definite favorite and looks much more streamlined than the original TOS versions.
This Septic 31 version is a very good mashup of the STTMP/TWoK/TNG PHASERs.
I like it, as well. It's a pretty cool mashup with all most of it being based on the TMP/TWoK version.
Again, old Trek still stands up to time.
Agreed - you can’t fool around with good design.

I am not the biggest fan of the newer shows, yet SNW is by far and away the best thought out and designed of the bunch.

I do have a SNW landing party set and I DO actually enjoy how the controls are laid out. Even though it hasn't been explained (as far as I know) I'm reasonably sure they have a purpose.

I could care less about any of these props that draw inspiration from TNG as I have little use for it.

As I always say TOS is thee best, and I leave you with a look at the second best landing party set in all of Trek....

The problem with the ST-SNW tricorder is the lazy re-use of the top display light and button arangement, re-used vertcally on that lower door panel. Lazy design.
The vertical arrangement of this lights and buttons could have a different set of functions/usages, but still lazy design, nevertheless.
Especially so, within a portable device where lazy design, like this, is very noticeable.
That is why Wah Chang’s original ST-TOS tricorder design was modified/refined, right after that first iteration.
It had too much repetition of design elements ( too many lights/buttons that were all of the same type and too many recording discs, in such a small portable designed device
The revised design was much more simplified of repetitive elements and looks more focused, intentional, in its final design form.

I see you think it's lazy because they re-use certain design elements.

I look at it from the designer (in universe perspective) understanding that equipment like this will be used in situations where controls will need to be duplicated as the technology used in this particular version of the Tricorder is new and is being refined

From just an engineering standpoint it makes perfect sense to have back up controls or even if they are used for something entirely different.

The revised design was much more simplified of repetitive elements and looks more focused, intentional, in its final design form.

So, what we are seeing with the SNW Tricorder is it being an earlier less refined version of the design. It's really an easy concept to figure.

Oh do you have pictures?
Not that I can share. Not allowed. Pesky NDA agreements.
Only thing limey builds is missing is the emitter detail in the front similar to the TNG Dustbuster. Aside from that its pretty close.

Frankly Im amazed anyone is interested or even noticed the props.

I think a lot of people are interested in the props. Darn NDAs.

Yeah people don't know how to just not like something they have to destroy it.
Yeah its a shame. Its also sad when they throw the baby out with the bathwater . A lot of great looking work was done for that film. It was the same on Rebel Moon. We did a lot of beautiful work that sadly was overshadowed by a bad script. Easy come, easy go. Ive been doing this too long to take any of it personally though. I just find it sad so many are driven by hate these days. Its such an energy drain to be so full of hate like that. But I digress.

Not hate just disappointed that though there is so much material in the trek franchise to mine the powers that be seem to always turn to the dark and seemingly mindless drival. Also repeated story arcs over and over. Just one fans opinion.

Yeah I get the disappointment.
