So what is the thought here. To me it looks like they did very little to the grips before the wire was added. Maybe just a shallow knife slice for the wire to rest? Maybe not even that, maybe the wire cut in on its own after it was tightened into place. Doesn't look like it was notched in a similar way that like on the Luke The Empire Strikes Back hilt to make room for the fasteners.

Yes that seems right. And seems I had chosen the right triangular file to do the job, right after the wooden stock dries from being painted.
I looked at some real MG34 stocks, most of them are eagle and swastika stamped, have 3 letters and 2 numbers under the swastika. There's also a big serial number below that. I wanted to put some easter eggs on this thing so I turned the swastika into the imperial logo anh77 (a new hope 1977) and on the bottom 2187 princess Leia's cell number. I used my glowforge to do the engraving.

I just finished making the box out of 1.25 inch aluminum angle piece and a metal shingle.
I wish I could have found 1.25 inch aluminum U channel but for some reason its hard to find.

I'll probably weather the stock a little. It looks a little too clean to me. I'm also going to put some different tie wire on the T-tracks to better replicate the screen used ones. For the most part I'm good with it
