As I put in my profile, started making props for the movie industry here in Cyprus. First movie was Jiu Jitsu and the next will be Man of War. So yeah, just getting started, despite the fact that I am an old fart.
I have a lot of 3D printing experience, since I run Zesty Technology with Brian. Currently printing functional guns and making the models for the Jiu Jitsu movie available on Cults.

Hello Everyone, I’m Anthony,

I’ve been interested in Props and Costumes for as long as I can remember and recently I’ve started my first forays into prop building and finding, My main Sci-fi loves are Star Trek, Star Wars and Doctor Who among others and I’m really excited to get involved with this community!

This is the first prop I built, a Phaser from Star Trek TNG, I’m only a beginner so be kind hehe.

Hello everyone ,
New here, from the northwestern US. Mostly into art and modeling. Huge science fiction movie fan, mainly the big name classics. I long for the days of miniatures and practical special effects. There's something about an in-progress model build that gets me going.
I don't have much finished work to show....just haven't had time or space in recent years for much building, but I have a zillion ideas in my head and love perusing others work. Thanks for sharing and having me!

Dan

Hello, happy to be here. Heard about the forum on Adam Savage's Tested YouTube channel. Have done some model building, but never prop replication. Looking forward to trying something soon!

Hi, I'm James and live in the UK. I've worked in Theatre, music, events, live performances for over 10 years as a set builder, LX and Sound tech and now exploring the prop making side of things to build on my skills and to learn something (or many things) new.

Good morning from the Cradle of Liberty. I'm Tony. I'm a middle-aged paramedic and I've been a scifi fan since I was a kid. I dabble a little in cosplay and propmaking but am a neophyte at best. I'll probably be more of a lurker than anything because I'm trying to learn more than anything at the moment. My tastes run towards SW, classic/movie ST, nuBSG, and milscifi. I've wanted to put something together from David Drake's Hammerverse for quite some time.

I'm an engineer. Retired after a career on Space Station and Space Shuttle work. Took a retirement job working for a shop building racecar parts. I work in Solidworks and program CNC mills and lathes and CNC plasma cutters to make our parts. Joined the forum to pursue two projects, a king costume of Daniel Dravot from "The Man Who Would Be King", and a replica survival kit prop from Dr Strangelove.

Hello everyone,

My name is Matt. I found this wonderful place after listening to the Adam Savage podcast. I've always been a prop collector, however many of the props I would like are either obscure or I just haven't been able to find them (most likely looking in the wrong places I know). Well rewind to a few years ago my best friend was getting married and she asked me to be her bridesman. Whenever I'm in a wedding party I try to provide the couple with personal gifts. So she ended up with an N64 complete with controllers and some Mario games. Her (at the time), soon to be husband, is a huge walking dead fan so I embarked on an endeavor. I made my first prop replica, Negans bat Lucille. And after about a week and some lovely scratches from the barbed wire my first prop replica was complete! So this opened a newfound avenue for entertainment and self gratification. Now that I have a shop space I look forward to completing more builds and sharing it with everyone.

Thanks,
Matt

Greetings all!

I'm Damien, a 22 year technology veteran and failed art major due to environmental discouragement at the time. I've had a giant void to fill these last few years and am now trying to make up for lost times. I've built a variety of things over the years, not really thinking much of it at the time, but it satisfied a need to be creative. This all culminated into a backyard theme park project that's affectionately called "The Krakatoa Project" which is an ongoing interactive endeavor here at my home in Southern California. The focal point wound up being the first iteration of "Anak Krakatau" a 10.5 foot tall fully erupting (pyro, smoke, lighting, sound effects you name it) Volcano. It's since branched out into several upgrades and a complete water/light "show" (Can you tell I adore theme park technologies? ). It's been great to marry my technologically focused day job into a more creative endeavor. At present I'm designing a fully animatronic cannon battle to be used in as garden props as well as a proof of concept for a friend's personal endeavors.

I don't know why, I've known about RPF for years and am only registering now. Thanks for having me, looking forward to contributing and learning with a "Forever a student" mentality.

-D

So many new folks here because of Adam Savage, huh?

Hey all I registered a few years ago and then immediately forgot to post anything, and was just reminded about the RPF by... Adam Savage!

I like 3D printing stuff and almost never finish any projects. But this year for PAX East I did my first cosplay; Nero from Devil May Cry, featuring a fully 3D printed sword and bionic arm. It came out super good, and held up for about 2 hours! The arm disintegrated, and the sword slipped my grasp and shattered on the ground. It was heart breaking.

So I'm here to learn how to make things better! >:D

I always enjoyed movies......now I want to remake a few props from my favorite movies. I can build most anything but need accurate drawings of to recreate the movie props from my childhood. sCan anyone point me in the right direction, I'm looking to do a lightsaber, doesn't matter which one but would like to start simple and go from there. Anyone know of someone that has a set of dimensioned plans? FYI, that is my Fast and Furious R32 GTR but (wrong color) Photo.

Hey folks,

I’m new here obviously. I’ve spent years looking over a friend’s shoulder watching him make some incredible things, and I’ve decided to try my hand at it. I’ve assembled the parts for my own lightsaber (not a screen accurate prop), and I’m starting to daydream about more parts of the Star Wars universe. Which often leads me to thinking about other things I want to make from other franchises. Ultimately I want to make things, and props from my favorite stories seems most likely to pull in different skills and techniques.

tl:dr - I’m new, I want to make things, thanks for having me!

Hello All, I have been checking out RPF and find it to be an amazing place to see what some very talented people are up to. I have taken the plunge and joined up. Unfortunately I'm a computer luddite who is trying to make amends. Pardon my errors. I have been a prototype model maker for over 25 years at a shop that was spun-off from a major aerospace corporation years ago. When the time all allows and the spirit moves me I occasionally try things that are a little different from my day to day work.

These compasses were made for my children and seemed to fit in with general theme of things.

I will post more of my projects, (as I figure out how) in the near future.

Greetings, exalted ones.

I'm a video production and information systems tech that has a passion for making things. I have two girls that are bringing forth the desire to be creative and make things. I've collected various skills from so many directions, not a professional in any one thing. The maker/tinkerer/builder moniker speaks to me.

I had never heard of this forum until it was mentioned in one of Adam Savage's videos. I looked it up and my goodness where has this been all my life. I can't wait to digest some knowledge from this creative think tank. Happy to be here.

Hello RPF, my name is Jonathan and I like to build things in miniature.

I live in Japan and space is at a premium so I have to work small or my fiancé will kill me.

My current projects are mostly Lord of the Rings or Studio Ghibli orientated.

I look forward to sharing what I have with you.

Hello there RPF,

for a few years now, I make my way through the cosplay, props etc. scene and have recently started an Obi Wan Kenobi build. I already saw and read many helpful things in this forum and after two years finally registered myself to dig deeper into all the awesome projects and ideas being shared here.

Merry Christmas :)

Hi RPF,

My name is Kate, I live in the UK. I mostly make props and costumes from foam and 3D prints (Designer by trade so CAD comes easily). Currently working on Astrid's armour from httyd3 and Brigette from overwatch's shieldmaiden skin flail (it's completely 3D printed and probably one of the heaviest props I've made). Some progress pictures below.

Hi all,

I am Claus (Winnie) from Germany. I am completely new to the prop making/replica making community, but now own a 3D printer, Fusion 360 and have a big passion for Blade Runner.
It's amazing to see how many people did and do such awesome stuff here in the forums, so I had to join to be able to get tips & tricks from this incredibly experienced community. Working on a project to "re-wrap" a Umarex HDR 50 paintball revolver in a Blade Runner blaster 'shell' (see my other post).

Glad to be here,

Winnie
