Frequently Asked Questions

About Us

Founded in 1997, we are the internet’s oldest and most well-known source for information on the latest props, costumes and models seen in movies, television, video games and other entertainment media.
Our community is a launching platform for fans from all over the world to take their passion for franchises, characters or props and express that fandom in a physical way by building their own replicas. Along the way they learn valuable skills and discover latent artistic talents which can lead to a life-long passion for the creative arts.
With over half a million unique monthly visitors, the RPF’s audience includes artists, movie industry insiders, collectors, costumers, modelers, sculptors, and avid movie fans.
The RPF is a privately run community, owned by Movie Prop Sites, LLC.

Community Guidelines / Rules

We are all adults here. Why do we need rules?
The rules help guide the community, ensure a level playing field and promote healthy discussion while encouraging respect between members.

Who makes the rules?
The “rules” are summarized in our Community Guidelines. These guidelines are modified as needed by the site administrators.

I have a first amendment right to free speech! I can say/do what I want! You can’t censor me!
The RPF is a privately run site where one's speech is regulated by our Community Guidelines.

I STILL don’t like the rules! They are unfair and I refuse to abide by them!
In joining this site and in agreement to use the services we provide, you agree to abide by our rules. If you refuse to abide by them you will not be welcome to use this site. Our Community Guidelines is a living document and is updated from time to time. If rules are set in place that you are not willing to adhere to, please request that you account be deactivated and we will do so for you.

I see loopholes in the rules. Since I don’t like the rules I am going to skirt them using the loopholes I have found, thereby technically following the rules, but in reality doing what I want to do, or at the very least, bending the rules in my favor and the administration won’t be able to do anything.
We are all adults here and playing coy games to bend or skirt rules doesn't fool anyone. We are all bound by the letter AND intent of the rules. In fact, attempting to purposefully skirt a rule will likely result in a more severe response than inadvertently breaking a rule.

What is a warning?
If you break a rule of the Community Guidelines, and it is your first time, depending on the severity of your actions, you may receive a courtesy warning to remind you of the rules and to encourage you to abide by them.

What is an infraction?
An infraction is an official notice that you have broken a rule of the Community Guidelines. The administration takes infractions very seriously and we encourage you to do the same.

I didn't deserve an infraction! How can I dispute my infraction?
You are welcome to discuss your infraction with the moderator who issued it. You may not agree with the outcome, but the administrative staff has the final say on any infraction.

If you give me an infraction, you MUST give member X an infraction too!
Not necessarily. The administration doesn’t publicly post when an infraction is issued. Nor do they (generally) share this information with other members.

Regardless of the actions of others and regardless of their misdeeds, you are accountable for your own actions independently. The administration handles each infraction on a case by case basis.

I see what looks like a breach of the Community Guidelines, what should I do?
Members who see what appears be a Community Guidelines infraction are encouraged to press the "report post" icon, which will alert the staff to the post in question.
There is less than 1 moderator per every 1000 members and those moderators do not necessarily search for Community Guidelines violations. They do monitor the board and respond as they find things, however, the vast majority of the threads they look at come from members who alert them via the “Report Post” feature.

Can I be a moderator?
The administration staff hand picks moderators based on a number of qualification factors. If you are interested in becoming a moderator, please send one of the current members of the staff a PM and we will add your name to the list of potential future moderators.

I love this site and want to donate to it! How can I donate?

Who can become a Premium Member?
Any registered member can become a Premium Member.

How do you become a Premium Member?
It's pretty simple. You purchase a subscription via Paypal, and your user account is automatically upgraded to Premium Member status. Subscriptions are billed monthly or yearly (your choice), and will automatically renew until terminated by you.
We know some people don't like Paypal, so we are working on alternative payment methods, but at this point, Paypal is the only option.

What is the cost and what subscriptions are available?
We have 3 subscriptions;
Full member monthly: A recurring charge of $4 a month until you cancel the subscription.
Full member yearly: A recurring charge of $36 a year until you cancel the subscription.
New member* yearly: A recurring charge of $36 a year until you cancel the subscription.
*Please note, if you are a new member, this will NOT allow you to skip to full membership. You will still have to complete your 50 posts and 90 day obligation.

Will the RPF become a paid-content only site?
Of course not! If you don't want to pay for a premium membership, your experience will remain the same as it is today. We created Premium memberships primarily for members who did not want to see the ads needed to run our community. Purchasing a Premium membership eliminates most ads but also provides additional features for our members as a “thank you” for their support.

What do I get for my premium membership?
Here is a basic list of features available to premium members:
  • Limited Ads - We remove the bulk of our affiliate and adsense ads.
  • Ability to create sales threads in the Junkyard forum.
  • Ability to create threads in the Project Runs forum (provided that you have been a member for 90 days and have at least 50 posts)
  • Ability to post in existing WTB threads in the Want to Buy forum.

Does this mean there won't be new features for non-paying members?
No. We will continue to provide new features for everyone although some new features will be exclusive to premium members.

Will the cost of my subscription increase once I've signed up?
Not in the foreseeable future. Even though we have added many features to our premium membership package, to date, we have not raised the price of our subscription.

What are the differences between the subscription plans?
Price. Our annual subscription is discounted 25% compared to 12 months of the month-to-month plan.

How do I purchase a gift subscription?
Email us at admin@moviepropsites.com with the subject “Gift Subscription” and we will provide you with details for purchasing a subscription for a friend.

When does my subscription go into effect?
Subscriptions go into effect immediately after payment is received and processed. However, your premium membership badge has to be manually applied and can take up to one (1) business day to appear.

What if I can't access the premium membership content or my premium membership doesn’t seem to be working after subscribing?
Send us a note at admin@moviepropsites.com with the issue and we'll get right on it.

I have an idea for a premium member feature. Where can I send it?
Send your idea to admin@moviepropsites.com and we will add it to our ever-growing list.

What types of advertising will be removed if I purchase a subscription?
All of the ads on the right side bar will disappear as well as all of the ads within threads and most of the other ads. You may see SOME ads from time to time, but they will be very few.

Does my subscription carry over to multiple devices?
Your subscription is tied to your account so any device you log into your account with will have your subscription applied.

What if I am still seeing ads on the RPF after becoming a member?
Send us a note at admin@moviepropsites.com with the issue and we'll get right on it.

How does billing work?
For your convenience, members with a monthly subscription will be automatically billed in 30-day intervals at the beginning of each pay period starting from the date of sign up. Members with an annual subscription will be billed every 12 months from the date of sign up.

What type of payments do you accept?
At this time, we only accept PayPal.

Does my subscription automatically renew?
For your convenience, subscriptions automatically renew -- and you are automatically charged -- at the end of the term. Renewals continue until you cancel your subscription.

How do I cancel my subscription?
If you no longer wish to maintain your premium membership status, follow the steps below:

1. Log into your paypal account.
2. Click "Profile" in the menu at the top of the page.
3. Click "My Money" in the menu on the left.
4. Under "My Preapproved Payments" click "Update"
5. Under "Merchant" search for "Movie Prop Sites, LLC."
6. Click on the listing for Movie Prop Sites, LLC, then click "Cancel."
Future billing will be cancelled immediately and your premium membership will end at the conclusion of your current billing cycle.

Can I get a refund if I'm not happy with the subscription?
We do not offer refunds for either subscription plan. However, if you are currently an annual subscription holder and you are billed for the next 12-month cycle, you have 30 days from the date of the renewal to cancel and get a full refund. To cancel and receive your refund, email admin@moviepropsites.com.

How long do I have to wait for my refund after I cancel my subscription?
Your refund should take no longer than 7 business days to be processed and for the amount to be refunded to your account. If for some reason the refund does not appear within 7 business days, please contact customer service at admin@moviepropsites.com.

Where can I get more information?
If you cannot find the answer to your question, please review our terms of use, privacy policy, and subscriber user agreement. If those don't help, please email customer service at admin@moviepropsites.com.

Classifieds (Junkyard/Project Runs/Want to Buy) Guidelines

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER

    1. ALL BUYING, SELLING AND INTEREST THREADS/POSTS MUST BE IN ONE OF THE CLASSIFIEDS FORUMS (Junkyard, Project Runs, Want to Buy).
    2. Because this is such an important point, let us say it again in a slightly different way: PLEASE DO NOT MAKE BUYING, SELLING, INTEREST POSTS/THREADS OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSIFIEDS FORUMS.
    3. Only PREMIUM MEMBERS are allowed to SELL in the community and only in the appropriate CLASSIFIEDS forums.
Click Here to Purchase a Premium Member Subscription
    4. Any CLASSIFIEDS forum thread that has not had a post in 60 days will be automatically removed.
    5. Any JUNKYARD forum thread that has been marked as sold will be automatically removed in 45 days.
    6. Members using the CLASSIFIEDS forums do so at their own risk. All transactions are the responsibility of the buyer and seller.
    7. A seller is only allowed to bump their thread once every 24 hours.
    8. Selling items for, or on behalf of someone else is considered shilling and is not permitted.
    9. Selling for or promoting services, products or sites of banned members or known re-casters is not permitted.
    10. Auctions (other than JUNKYARD "FA" threads), charity auctions, sales mentioning a charity or raffles of any kind are not permitted (unless they are official ebay "Giving Works" auctions).
    11. Price "bashing" is not allowed. If you don't like the price of an item move along without comment. If you are interested in buying an item for less than the displayed price, contact the seller ONLY if they have specified that they are willing to accept offers.
    12. A seller may NOT request PayPal payment be made as a "gift" (this means choosing "I'm sending money to family or friends" from the Send Money page in PayPal). A seller may NOT request buyer pay for PayPal fees. If a seller chooses to accept PayPal, all fees should be calculated into the sales price.
    13. The sale or trade of live firearms is strictly prohibited on the site. The sale or trade of deactivated firearms is permitted only if the item in question has been rendered completely non-functional as described under the applicable laws of BOTH the buyer and seller’s home country/state/province.
    14. The decision to sell to a particular member is solely at the discretion of the seller. A seller may not sell to a member for any reason or no (stated) reason at all. Negative feedback left to a seller because they did not want to sell to you will be removed.

CLASSIFIEDS FORUMS

JUNKYARD - for selling READY TO SHIP items ONLY.
    1. Each thread may contain a single item for sale or a group of items being sold together for a single price (if you later decide to offer the items individually, mark the thread as SOLD and start new threads for each individual item).
    2. When you sell an item, you are required to ship it within 15 days of receipt of payment. Please remember to mark the thread as SOLD when you receive payment to avoid unnecessary bumping of the thread due to purchasing inquiries.
    3. Failure to ship the item within 15 days may result in account termination.
    4. There are three type of threads in the Junkyard which are determined at the time the seller creates a listing:
      • For Sale (FS) - Item you are offering for sale.
      • For Sale / For Trade (FS/FT) - Item you are offering for sale, but you will also entertain trade offers.
      • For Auction (FA) - Item you are selling on an auction site such as ebay.

Note: We do not have a "Free" option as there can still be costs associated with such items (shipping). If you want to offer an item for free, simply choose FS and set the price to zero.

PROJECT RUNS - for limited and unlimited project runs as well as interest threads for those runs. There are four types of threads in the Project Runs forum designated by the thread title prefix that is selected when creating a thread.
    1. Interest (INT) - a thread to gauge interest for a possible run. If/when it becomes a run, the seller needs edit the first post with the sales details and to change the thread title prefix to one of the run prefixes. Interest threads are NOT to be used as a means to solicit offers/bids for an item and are solely for gauging interest in project runs.
    2. Limited Run (LTD RUN) - a thread for selling multiple copies of an item being produced. There is a limited number of items being produced or a predefined length of time that the items will be produced.
    3. Unlimited RUN (UNLTD RUN) - a thread for selling multiple copies of an item being produced with no predefined limit on the quantity or length of time that the item will be be produced (open ended run).
    4. Service (Service) - a thread for offering services / commission work. Post what you offer, examples of your work and pricing guidelines if practical.
    5. Done / Completed (Done / Completed) should be selected when an interest thread does not become a run, a run has been completed, or a service is no longer being offered.
WANT TO BUY - the place for all members to create threads seeking items they wish to purchase.
    1. All member types can start threads in this forum.
    2. Only Premium Members can post responses in these threads.
