Hello Crafters!
I'm Chris, with Varanus Industries (my name for my cosplay/makeup effects hobby). Based out of New Orleans, and working on random projects as they strike my fancy. 2016 plans include a full on battle ready/damaged Mandalorian, Batman v Superman's Aquaman (lovingly referred to as Aqua-Drogo), and a Deadpool movie suit.
Pictures will come as they happen.
Deuces!

Hey guys,

I have a degree in graphic design, had a few graphic design jobs for the better part of 15 years, then fell bassackwards into photography - wedding and food photography. Been loving being my own boss ever since. :)

I've been an avid reader of numerous Star Wars costuming forums for the past several weeks. I saw the Original SW when I was eight, and I came home wide-eyed with my imagination running wild. later that year, one of my grade school friends came to school with (from what I can remember) a real stormtrooper helmet. I've been hooked on that helmet ever since. I have no idea if it was a real helmet or not, but from my eight year old eyes, it had that authentic look that department store 'masks' just couldn't duplicate. Because of that, I could never bring myself to buying a Stormtrooper mask or helmet that wasn't like the original. I wanted the real thing.

Then Empire Strikes Back came out, and I was hooked on Vader's new helmet - more so than the original ANH helmet. Something with the higher dome brow showing off the mask brows giving it more of stylized/sculpted skull appearance. It just looks wicked awesome. Rinse and repeat - I could never bring myself to buying a Vader mask or helmet that wasn't like the original. I wanted the real deal.

Fast forward a bit, and I started seeing new replicas that looked incredibly close, and there were times I was ready to buy, but at the time they were too expensive for my pocketbook. I thought about these two helmets on and off for a long time.

Then....The Force Awakens. Boom! I was eight years old all over again - something the second trilogy could never recapture in me. Even better, I now that I have a two year old and a four year old, and watching them dive into and get all crazy excited over the Star Wars Universe has amped it all up that much more. It's so. much. fun. So now, thanks to TFA and my kids, I've been searching, hawking and researching for these helmets again.

It's ridiculous how far they've come in the last 15 or so years. The one Vader helmet that kept showing up on my searches was the Efx ANH Vader Limited Edition. It's selling for around $1,800 on eBay every now and then. It's not exactly what I want, but if there wasn't anything else available, I'd probably consider it. I'd even consider the Legend edition even more so.

As I continued to google away, I found so many prop and costuming forums, and that opened the flood gate to all sorts of options. I found Anovos, which incidentally is located right down the interstate from me. So I put an OT Stormtrooper helmet on pre-order before Christmas, but have since cancelled it - it's allegedly going to take until March to get to me anyway - and that's if it there aren't any delays. As I continued to search I found RS Prop Masters, and I have a helmet in my cart. If I'm going to get a helmet, and I've waited 38 years, I might as well get a direct descendant. :)

Now I'm on the prowl for a good ESB Vader helmet. I've narrowed it down to two. Anovos. Their ESB Helmet looks incredibly promising if you look at the example they show with their full costuming photos. They have taken a few liberties here and there, but that helmet as that ESB 'look'. ...and those little details above the mask eyebrows are a nice little kicker. The dome mounting system seems brilliant - another nice perk.

Then there's the Quasimodo II ESB. It's another tremendous example that has that ESB 'look' I'm after. Being a designer/photographer, I'm liking the handcrafted fan-made helmets more and more. It's a labor of love I truly appreciate, it's nearly impossible to overlook that notion. I also love some of the proceeds go to disabled SW fan - something I'd love to be a part of.

So... that's my story and I'm sticking to it. LOL

>> New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! <<

Hello to everyone! I've just joined this community with the intention of become a fixture here. I am an inventor/product designer who recently (in the last 5 years) has begun to make replica Harry Potter items. It my way of giving my daughters something amazing to suit their insane passion for all things Harry Potter.

I recently posted my first project for members to see under the heading Replica Harry Potter Quidditch Trunk if anyone would like to see.

I own three different 3D printers and live to design new, unique and useful items.

I'm happy to count myself among your ranks and look forward to collaborations with some of you when interests overlap. God bless each of you.

Hia all! I've been coming across this forum a lot while researching projects, and heard it mentioned on some of my favorite Youtube vids. The time has finally come for me to actually make an account and seek out external validation...I mean feedback.

While I like making various things the most work is done on cosplay. If you've been to cons in the western New York area, you may have seen me perform with my improv show, Nameless Improv Comedy, or perhaps just happily going around con.

Hello everyone, Higgie here.

I first had a look at the RPF when it was mentioned by Adam Savage on tested and have since visited quite a bit to look at some of the Bandai Millennium Falcon build threads to get ideas for my own (it's my first model so it will be much simpler than some of the immaculate builds located here!).

Given that some of the other prop builds coming up this year are an ANH DL-44 blaster and if I get really excited a grail diary, I thought I should make an account to share progress/get some tips and tricks.

Looking forward to sharing with everyone here when I get around to starting some build threads! :)

Hi Guys just joined.

Great forum. My future projects will be a Sterling based E11 Blaster and the Hasbro 2014 falcon model both purchased.

As I spend a lot of time restoring classic cars the projects here will be mostly evenings and winter based.

Thanks all

Colt

Hi Folks,

I was a member of this community in the early/mid 2000s and recently have been bitten by the prop collecting/building bug again.

First goal is to acquire the parts for and build (again) a Luke ESB saber and DL-44 set.

I'm going to keep this short. Hi I'm Justice I had a friend show me this forum around 3 months ago while we were talking about our costumes for comic con.

Oi hello there! Another fella joining the ranks!

I decided to join the RPF after a good long time of lurking around. When it comes to prop making I am not a complete greenhorn. I started back in 2009 and finished two pieces of armor (Custom ODST Medic and Spartan IV), but I still got a lot to learn. Before I was a member of the 405th, but Halo is really not my thing anymore due to how it changed, kinda like Star Wars - Original Trilogy vs. Prequel Trilogy. Anyway that´s about it for now.

Looking forward to working with you guys! :)

H, new member here but long time lurker! The stuff I've seen on here is incredible and it's inspired me to make my own Han Solo blaster. If anyone could link me to some useful topics then I'd be most grateful!

Hello, everyone! My name is David and I live in New Orleans. Been lurking around here for a while mostly just admiring the amazing work I see here. My main interest is Star Wars props and models and I'm about to embark on a Luke ESB Graflex build and a Han DL-44 blaster (probably Ep. VII version) in the near future, so wish me luck! I'm also in the middle of a Bandai Millennium Falcon build that will be lit on a diorama base, just need to learn how to do lighting first!

Hey Everyone!

My name is Eli and I found out about this website through my interest in DL-44 prop replicas and lightsaber replicas. I am very interested in replica props and am just starting out but expect posts of my collection soon!

Hello all!

Just got back from the Wizard World Comic Con in New Orleans. Girlfriend and I are getting into Cosplay and figured we would attend the Cosplay panels there. After, sitting down and absorbing all the information we were able too, we decided to get into it even more so. Jackie Craft's and Super Kayce's panels were very informative and enlightening (at least from a beginner's point of view).

Currently, we are picking out whom we would like to cosplay. She already has some parts for Harley Quinn and cosplayed her Saturday of the con. The characters we are actively looking in to are; Hellboy, Thor, Bane, Harley Quinn, Selene (Underworld), Liz Sherman, Black Widow. I will be browsing the threads for information regarding anything to these. If anyone has any input or links to pieces that were hard to find/craft, feel free to enlighten me. I am a sponge willing to absorb your knowledge/advice.

Hey everyone!

I'm Travis. I live in Seattle and I'm a disabled combat Iraqi war veteran, former pro wrestler and professional web and graphic designer (bachelor's degree from the Seattle Art Institute).

I have an Iron Man, Green Lantern, Starlord, Captain America, Breaking Bad and Lost tattoos, among other non-geekery ink.

I've been a silent, unregistered reader of the forums for awhile, following advice, tutorials, build threads (particularly big fan of the Arrow build threads).

But I've been making my own stuff for a couple months and looking for feedback and asking questions, giving my own thoughts and giving gratitude and praise where it's due.

Just wanted to introduce myself. Reading a lot of the posts was a very welcome distraction in Iraq, Afghanistan, Japan and on carriers, submarines, etc. So thank you everyone.

-Travis
